have never seen 911 and yet i feel an inexplicable fondness for eddie. seen a few gifsets and the like and DAMN he is going through it. saw a hatepost for him and it made me so irrationally angry that i had to go outside and touch grass. i have never seen this show. what is wrong with me. anyway wishing homosexuality on this man <3

i know i talk about the competition scene a lot (bc it’s absolute cinema) but something i always think when i watch it is that tommy mostly implied that eddie had feelings for buck, not the other way around, and this is yet to be mentioned in canon bc buck straight up didn’t realise. off the top of my head, the only thing he says about buck’s potential feelings is “you’re living in the guy’s house” of course followed by the notorious renter & straight line from buck. but the conversation starts with him calling eddie “competition” which heavily implies that he thought eddie was actively trying to get with buck. tommy was in competition with eddie bc they were both going for the same prize. and the “he’s straight” “*scoff* okay” also doesn’t make sense if he was just trying to call out buck on his feelings bc he’s literally suggesting eddie is queer, which at its most basic level has nothing to do with buck.

that’s why it’s so so so interesting that buck immediately starts defending himself. he doesn’t even really register that tommy is saying eddie has feelings for him bc he’s prepared himself to shut down people suggesting he loves eddie. realistically he’s probably been preparing for this since he realised he was bi - maybe longer. he had his reasons ready to go and he didn’t hesitate in the slightest to whip them out. and the only reason he would have given himself those reasons is if he knew he loved eddie but thought, consciously, that he could avoid it if he was logical about it. and logic to him is that he can’t be in love with eddie bc eddie is straight (this is, obviously, shit logic).

my very long-winded point is that i think when buck said “he’s straight” he wasn’t even really defending eddie lol he was just defending himself. he hadn’t registered that tommy had called eddie super gay, he had only registered that he thought buck loved eddie, and he just wanted to shut it down. it’s also why his response to “*scoff* okay” is “i don’t have to want to sleep with everyone i have feelings for, and i don’t have to have feelings for everyone i sleep with” which tbh doesn’t make much sense as a reply to tommy essentially saying “eddie’s queer”. bc buck fundamentally was refusing to hear him. his reason for not being in love with eddie is so deeply ingrained in him that he can’t even comprehend the idea of anything different. eddie could probably come out to him and buck would be like “no.” anyway yeah he’s consciously in love with eddie and doing a shit job at hiding it.

I just realized the fact that if it was nearly any companion that wasn’t Jack who had been turned immortal and stranded on Satellite 5. The Doctor abandoning them would have been a lot more horrifying.

Most of the Doctor’s companions doesn’t have the knowledge and skill that Jack does. Jack could survive on his own on another planet and time. But what about Martha? Or Donna? Or Amy? Or even Rose? They wouldn’t even be able to talk to people without the TARDIS translating for them. And who knows how long they’d be stuck on satellite 5.

Considering what happened they could be stuck there for a long time.

Jack’s situation is was horrific. But fuck he handled it remarkably well.

not enough people are torchwood fans in 2023. like, if this shit was airing now instead of like sixteen years ago then tumblr gays would be eating this shit up. if the big finish stuff was more easily available, people would probably also be eating it up. janto and jyler would be a ship war (a heavily to one side ship war, but a ship war nonetheless). the colchester-price fans would be happily eating popcorn at the side. everyone would be an orr and tosh fan. gwen and yvonne would be tumblr sexywomen. there'd be people picking out everything burn gorman has ever been in. there would be essays about why ng should/shouldn't be hated. andy davidson would still be lurking in the background. myfanwy would have more canon appearances.

thinking about ianto jones... how he died at canary wharf and the man we meet is his walking corpse.... how we never ever meet the original ianto..... how everything he is in the show is the result of what happened to him before the series even began....... how he spent all that time knowing death was still right around the corner................ how he accepted immediately that he was dying in that room even as jack was still fighting for him...................... how the only thing he asked was to be remembered but none of us remember the real ianto jones because he was dead before the story began..............................................

I’ve been listening to the Torchwood big finish audios lately, and just having listened to the ‘I Hate Mondays’ trilogy last night and ‘Disco’ this morning, there’s a lot of thoughts I need to sit with.

Thinking about Ianto’s general complicated relationship with his dad — how even way back in ‘Blind Summit’, it’s established that despite everything his dad has done Ianto will still try to save him because it’s his dad. The cliffhanger at the end of ‘Dinner for Yvonne’ being getting the call about his dad’s death.

Thinking about how ‘Disco’ happens the week between ‘Dinner for Yvonne’ and ‘By Royal Appointment’ when Ianto is away for the funeral. How Ianto is willing to risk everything for the selfish desire to save his dad, but it only makes the present day unrecognizable so in order to preserve timelines, to preserve the life that he loves with his niece Misca and nephew David and his job at Torchwood, he has to let his dad’s downward spiral happen. How at the end we learn that Ianto is named after his father, and the physical and personality similarities between them. (Imo, this episode feels like it takes the premise of Doctor Who’s “Father’s Day” a step further in an even more tragic way — at least Rose got to leave with a good memory of his father, and at least she didn’t leave him to die alone. Ianto, on the other hand, had to push his father back into the circumstances that would lead to his [Ianto’s] abuse as a child, the ensuing strained family relationships, and eventually his father dying alone.)

How after trying and failing to save his father, Ianto has to go back to work in ‘By Royal Appointment’ and be inundated with everyone offering condolences and asking how the funeral was. How he gets back and notices how much Tommy, his coworker and sort of father figure (who even gave him his iconic stopwatch!), has been drinking more often.

Thinking about how in ‘Nerves’ it all bubbles up into a confrontation between them, where Ianto likely still feels guilty for what he did in ‘Disco’ and how he was unable to save his dad, and tries to find refuge in work at Torchwood only to see his best friend there going down the same path. How in the argument it is clear Tommy is projecting a bit as well when he goes off at Ianto about how he should have visited his dad more often instead of leaving him to die alone, and Ianto knows, he just got back from time traveling to visit his dad at his prime, and was unable to save him without risking all the parts of his life that he loves. How Ianto tried to save his dad out of perceived selfishness (his words) to see “a version of [him] who laughed”, how he gave that up for his selfish love of his own life at Torchwood, how even his pleas to Tommy to stop drinking are his selfish desire to not lose his closest friend and father figure to the same way he lost his dad. How this selfishness is something that in ‘Disco’ he recognizes as having inherited from his dad.

Thinking about how despite everything, despite all his reinventions and moving on, Ianto is always defined by his dad.
