āWell, on behalf of the city I apologise. It isnāt the friendliest place.ā Maggie noted with a small chuckle at Lindaās words.Ā āI think itās wise to stay away from it for good.ā She nodded. Gotham had been a much needed change of scenery for her at the time, but she had to admit it was no place to stay long term. Especially with her daughter.
āDid you grow up here?ā Maggie asked, smiling to herself as her daughter leaned up against the glass covering the ice cream with wide, entranced eyes.
Maggieās response came unexpected to Linda and she basically peered at the other woman with question marks in her eyes. āAre you from Gotham City then?ā she inquired curiously and if Maggie truly had moved away from that place, that would be a good thing. She had a young child after all and it wouldnāt be a positive environment for Jaime to grow up in. Shifting her attention to the young girl, Linda flashed Jaime a bright smile. āPick any ice cream flavor you want, Jaime, okay? And as many scoops as you want, as long as thatās alright with your mother, of course.ā the brunette commented, looking back at the detective after another moment. āNo, actually. I grew up in Boston, but I moved here when I went off to college to study journalism. My family still lives there though.ā

āIris skills areā¦ best left out of the kitchen.ā Patty agreed with a sympathetic laugh. Maybe one day they could help show Iris the ropes of baking, but throwing her into a bake sale would be a big ask for her current skill level.Ā āSheās good at convincing people though - I have no doubt sheād be good in our marketing team.ā
āTotally agreed.ā Linda nodded with a laugh of her own.Ā āIām thinking maybe we could bake some Halloween and Thanksgiving themed pastries? Since those holidays are coming up pretty soon. Unless you have other ideas for that? Iām open to anything really.ā she had never baked with another person before, making this a brand new experience. But Linda was pumped for it and it would also give her the perfect opportunity to get to know Patty better.Ā āWhat time should I be there? Iāll obviously help with setting everything up, so you donāt have to do it all by yourself or with the coworkers youāve managed to sucker into assisting us.ā

āThatās quite the switch.ā Maggie noted with a small whistle. She was sure sports journalism could be interesting to the right people, but it was definitely a different beat than crime.Ā āNot here - I was still a pretty green detective when I was first staying here. Might have heard of a few of my cases in Gotham, though.ā She shrugged, pointedly ignoring the way Jaimeās eyes lit up almost as much as they did at the sign of the ice cream parlour at the mention of some of her previous work.Ā āHad this guy trying to freeze the whole city forā¦ reasons, I donāt know. The Gotham crazies never did make much sense to me. Had a freeze ray. But I heard there was a similar kinda guy here - Corporal Cold or something?ā
āYeah, itās been a challenge, but I tend to gravitate towards those.ā Linda confessed honestly. She didnāt want to always play it on the safe side and had decided to be more dauntless because she felt like it would contribute to making her stronger. As the trio reached the ice cream parlor, the brunette held the door open for Maggie and Jaime while also listening to what the detective was telling her. The mention of Gotham City made shivers run down her spine, flashes of her last and only visit flickering right before her very eyes. Her bag had been stolen, though Linda had luckily gotten her belongings back, but it still hadnāt been a pleasant visit at all. āIāve been to Gotham City once... for a story. I got mugged while I was there and decided Iām never going back to that shady place again.ā

āThe perfect detective-reporter duo. Which reminds me, now that Iām on the field Iām definitely coming to you next time Iām stumped on a lead.ā Patty offered with a grin before nodding at Lindaās suggestion.Ā āPerfect. I already have a few places in mind good for canvassing. And at least one colleague I know I can bug into helping.ā She fully intended on making Christian a lackey in this, whether he liked it or not.
āIāll make sure I have coffee and donuts ready when you do.ā Linda mused in response, mirroring the grin that Patty was giving her. When she mentioned a colleague that she could bug into helping, the brunetteās mind instantly began to race. She herself wanted to contribute as much as she possibly could, so now Linda was trying to think of her own coworkers, anyone who might be up for helping with the bake sale.Ā āI might have some coworkers I can sucker into helping too. And thereās of course always Iris. I mean, not that we should allow her to go anywhere near the kitchen, but she can still help out with other things.ā

Mon-El picked up the card, and cursed himself for not adding any pockets on his suit, it would come in handy in time like these. He supposed that he would have to make some upgrades,Ā āI can do that, yeah, I hope you realize that it may put you in a dangerous spot, since I do deal with some pretty nasty criminals,ā he was sure that she had an idea just how dangerous it would all be, but it was always better to be sure. He wanted her to know what she was getting herself into, depending how dangerous the person was, he may not ask anyone to publish a story, though, he didnāt want to put anyone in danger,Ā āYouāre welcome,ā he floated above the ground, and waited for her to drive, so he could fly away.
āI can hold my own.ā Linda promised. If anything, today had been a learning experience that pushed her towards being stronger. She knew that if she wanted to do this job, she had to toughen up and stop being scared - which she was more than willing to do. As he began to lift off from the ground, the brunette slipped into her car on cue and closed the door once she was inside. Sliding the key inside the ignition, she turned it and kicked the vehicle into gear, driving off.

āYeah, I guess I am.ā Patty smiled. She was healed, back doing what she loved. And fighting every step of the way for the people she cared about. It was progress, almost like the last few months hadnāt happened and pulled her down.Ā āYouāre the one that came up with the idea! Wouldnāt have happened without you.ā Patty shrugged off the compliment with one of her own at Lindaās praise, before regarding the woman with a small smile.Ā āIām glad youāre doing better. And let me know if I can help on flyer duty.ā
āLetās share the spotlight with that one. Besides, I have a feeling itāll be amazing and that more of these badass teamups are in our future.ā Linda was already trying to go over a bunch of recipes in her head now, wanting to give this bake sale her very best and come up with original things. There were many options, but sheād set out to go all out for this one and make things that people couldnāt just buy at the supermarket - what would be the point otherwise, right? It needed to be unique and with Patty by her side as her teammate, Linda didnāt think much could go wrong. It also served as a great distraction. āIāll design something at work and show it to you when itās done. Maybe we can spread the flyers around together once the design has your approval.ā
