Kara Zichittella, Zeitype 2016 Pacific started as a self-initiated brief to design two contrasting typefaces which take inspiration from both intentional and accidental typographic trends in Hawaiian culture. It has evolved into experimentation of visual play and purpose made peculiarity. This specimen features two typographic explorations of contrasting cultural values – the idealistic portrayal of paradise against Hawaii’s current social issues.

Tyler Job, 2016 tylerjob.com Miscellaneous, 2016 The presented letterforms are among my favourite client rejects.I have since managed to recycle some of these for personal projects, otherwise they stand as pure explorations in form/typography.

Play Begins 2014 'Play Begins’ was a creative experimentation project. The animation represents the core elements ‘Pb’ – conveying a sense of directness and minimalism. Designed to communicate the willingness to focus on the core characteristics at the heart of any form, function or concept – to emphasise simplicity and clarity in conceptual communication.

Brutalism Bold, 2008 Black & weight 60/70s inspired characters that look to Brutalist architecture for inspiration. Monolithic facades with few windows (Breuer's Whitney Museum for example) beget letterforms with hard geometry and without counters. Wim Crouwel's 1976 calendar for Erven E. van de Greer printers is also a source of inspiration.

The Birthdays Design Designers: Konstantina Yiannakopoulou & George Strouzas thebirthdaysdesign.com
01. TBD X E.S, 2016 TBD X E.S. is an ongoing collaboration between The Birthdays Design and Eleftheria Straka. An exploration in two of our most loving things we have in common: typography and music. Every month we create a playlist and an artwork together. We also screen printed a limited edition poster, for 2016, celebrating the music of the previous year.
02. OFF!, 2016 Our self-initiated poster, firstly designed for a post on social media, later it was beautifully printed as a poster and added on our poster collection. It was an announcement, for our Christmas vacation on 2016. A custom lettering or an exploration for the word Off!
03. TBD Contact Reverse, 2016 Specimen for the recently designed reversed version of TBD Contact Font.
04. TBD FTRT, 2016 Specimen for the geometrical FTRT font.

Timeface, December 2016
Timeface is an infographic typeface that visualises the time investment and logic involved in type design. This specimen shows how Timeface was constructed using Ithaka, the original typeface whose process is the story Timeface tells. The longer time spent on certain glyph for Ithaka, the heavier its Timeface counterpart.

Photomontage November 2016
An experimentation in printmaking, exploring the relationship between traditional and digital production methods – using digitally created and printed assets on acetate, in a traditional darkroom environment.
As the 4 hours process progressed, the growing imperfections of the acetate further highlighted the traditional photographic process.

oo-a for oo-a.tumblr.com 2015-onwards
My project, oo-a* was inspired by the spontaneous script-like and character-like shapes made by the cut vines (viticci) in the vineyards near my home. Documenting and experimenting with the results, both graphically and typographically, to create new typeforms with a similar randomness and irregularity of the vines themselves.
*oo- a is the playful, phonetic pronunciation of the word ‘uva’ in the local dialect, which means grape.
