i tend to talk a lot about the realistic nature of the witcher, its "realistic fantasy," "brutal realism," its references to political realities and inspirations taken from history, and that is all very important to it.
but... i also want to take a moment to say that the witcher, as a tragedy, also fills me with a hope... that such love, such beautiful families and friendships can exist, even if they differ too much to survive in the end. the idea that the beauty and purity of that love even exists at all, in such a fucked up world, despite it and sometimes existing in the very middle of it, is also what makes it realistic. hope is realistic. love is realistic.

presenting unto Skyrim fans for their consideration: transfemme Miraak? Because we love a gatekeeping girlboss dragon priest.
I've also made her mixed snow elven and reachfolk-- with draconic influence from her millennium stewing in apocrypha and having nothing better to do than absorb draconic knowledge, and that eventually comes to change her physically.

Dragonborn eclipse headcannons
In honor of the solar eclipse that happened weeks ago
"on the darkest night, the reflection of akatosh taints the moon with the reflection of his blood to bare witness upon the scorned birth of the dragon blood, children born to die."
Dragonborn are born under a bloodmoon, the reflection of akatosh tainting the moon red as he witnesses the birth of the scorned. Hense why it's called a bloodmoon, the blood of the dragon being born to die.
Dragons are severally weakened during total solar eclipses, they're connected to the sun who symbolizes akatosh and during full totality - their connection to akatosh is severed.
Hense why dragons and dragonborn usually get more aggressive and restless during eclipses because they are incredibly vulnerable.
Miraak of course is not an exception to this, he is the origin of this myth. The information and records of his existence are simply lost to both history and Herma's need to hoard knowledge.
This goes well with my headcannon that dragonborn are not celebrated but feared-hated. They're seen as bad omens, the harbingers of the end.
Thus, those who are usually born under eclipses at times are seen as cursed- some are either killed or abandoned out of fear.

Quick PSA, if you get one of those "Work scanned, AI use detected" comments on AO3, just mark them as spam.
Some moron apparently built a bot to annoy or prank hundreds of authors.
There is no scanning process, your work doesn't actually resemble AI writing, it's all bullshit. Mark the comment as spam (on AO3, not the email notification you got about the comment!) and don't let it get to you.

❗Fanart Alert❗
Tumblr media
The wonderful and talented @tesshere surprised me with this beautiful beautiful work of art of Tender Jiraak™ and OUGH—I can't STOP staring at it, my day was spent having a Major Case of Heart Eyes over this piece! 😍 Just look at Jia's fluffy fiery mane, her little freckles, the lovely pattern of her dress... and Miraak! his braids! his silver eyelashes and brows! his fur! his Ear!!! It's officially decided that my part snelf/part atmoran Miraak has slightly pointy ears after all!!! 😤
And that soft glow around them! Despite being so contrasting in powers, fire and ice, they're enveloped by the same light, which is so accurate lore-wise...🥰

Eldritch Miraak headcannons
So I reference this in a few of my chapters, but as y'all could tell- Miraak's form even in apocrypha is extremely unstable. So unstable in fact, that he forces Storm into a bargain with him with the intention of betraying her at the summit and using her soul to stabilize his own soul that's falling apart.
While in apocrypha, his body was malleable- open to change so he ended up developing some eldritch traits. His "horns" are actually tentacles he tucks under his hood. They have eyes that are a reference to biblical angels but he ends up using them to bend another to his whims.
When He's finally out of apocrypha, he's left with a lot of disabilities and chronic pain as a result of his body just breaking. Arthritis, joint pain, the permanent pain from being impaled, you name it.
When He's under a lot of stress, the delicate control he had of his faculties falls apart and he had an episode of his body falling apart, contorting in ways that if anyone saw him- their mind would break immediately.
He's extremely vulnerable in this state, so Storm when she senses something is off about him- ushers him to a quiet place and let's him fall apart, she keeps watch making sure nothing that could be a threat to him make an attempt to ambush him -vigilante of staedar for instance.
Afterwards when he finally is able to grasp at the reins of control and mend his form together, he's usually bedridden from excruciating pain afterwards so Storm and her company members watch over him and make sure he's okay.
He has to wear his mask, if anyone he doesn't trust gazes upon his face- their mind will break. He has a limited degree of control over this, and whether or not you are able to look at him depends whether or not he's able to trust you and drop his guard.
Which is why Storm really is the only one who's able to fully look at him without consequences, he trusts her completely after she's been through hell and back to make sure he's safe, showing him what humanity is despite her being a horrible person at times.
One side of his face is mutilated from his body being changed, leathery necrotic skin, multiple eyes and some of his draconic traits coming through with the shaper cheekbones and jawline.
He will often use this to his advantage, especially in combat. Simply by lifting his mask, he's able to stun enemies enough for him to get a strike.
I believe in eldritch and draconic Miraak supremacy

how do we feel about meatrack with cats (asking for myself)
MIRAAK IS A CAT GUY. i don't think he likes dogs very much at ALL, but he enjoys cats (and possibly other farm animals, esp sheep, which surprises him! i think he occasionally likes to stop and pet animals on the farms they pass while traveling). i actually gave tharya & miraak a vale sabre cat from gelebor during their own timeskip, her name is runa and she is the best🥰 she's huge and has massive teeth so she's good to have around for protection, but also for a long time she was very very tiny kitten and miraak would let her sit in the neckline of his robes while they traveled so she could stay warm and comfy, with just her lil head peeking out. tharya would put a glove or kerchief or something to wrap her & carry her in the bandolier she has so runa could peek out and watch too. she was small for a long while, but then grew very quickly, so now she's large but still young and still wants miraak to carry her around (he tries occasionally).
(edit: i think he also just enjoys little Animals in general. i have a headcanon that while he was a priest on solstheim he had two little sugar-glider-esque pets (native critters to atmora) with him that morokei gifted to him :3)

Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?

🫀⚔️Age of the dragons: blood upon the snow⚔️🫀
"A woman leaving a path of vengeance in her wake, surviving in a war-torn land baptized in fire and blood. She cannot run from the past that haunts her, her path takes a jarring turn when an ancient and unholy evil rouses from its eternal slumber within the crypts of Solstheim and shrouds the land in shadow. When an old shadow of her past comes back to haunt her and when the black wings of death take flight when brother has turned against brother as he threatens to destroy the world with his ravenous maw, will she and Miraak put their differences aside? Or with they destroy eachother tooth and claw?"

Salmon sharks
Rats
Salmon
Bait ball
Blue shark
Orca
Mudcrab
Tiger keelback snake
Seeker
Horker
Blood dragon
Glenumbrian blue cat
Felsaad tern
Dwarven ballista
Velvet bellied lantern shark
Themes of anti war and found family, this is a long fic that is more slower paced and focuses on building into the world building around the elder scrolls. This fic itself deals with the themes of characters witnessing the worst monstrosities of humanity in a land ravaged by war and themes of religious trauma and corruption, heavy themes of monsters having more humanity then most humans. The thalmor recently being introduced in the background pulling the strings of everything that happens, everything comes full circle and falls into the thalmor in some way- they are the main antagonists of the story.
The main character is supposed to be a similar character as Miraak, the parallel eachother immensely and has been a repeating theme in recent chapters- she's an asshole and not supposed to be likeable, very morally dubious but follow on their journey of the worst people in tamriel relearning what humanity truly is.
Animal and plant symbolism, some stands for subtle foreshadowing. It's up to the reader to figure out what they mean.

everything yen does on skellige in tw3 gives me the strongest she would not fuckin say that feelings imaginable
especially given her motivation in both the books and games is "desperately need to find ciri" and yet she acts wildly, viscerally different.
book yen on skellige: drops to her knees to help a stranger who's miscarrying, doubts the existence of any goddess but tries to acquire a magical artifact needed to find ciri by visiting a temple and agreeing to pray with the priestesses, literally earns the blessing of a goddess through her self-sacrifice and is freely given the magical artifact,
game yen on skellige: pisses everyone off, breaks in and steals a magical artifact needed to find ciri and then proceeds to blindly use it despite warnings, has no sympathy for a dead kid who literally died so ciri could escape, feels no remorse about her dead kid necromancy destroying the sacred garden of the same goddess who she literally was supposed to have earned the blessing of on this same island under the same circumstances and and--
