thanks for the question!!
Zane was, essentially, the 'trial-run' child lol.
It's why he's Zero instead of One. they had the main line of code written for a full realized artifical intelligence but knew there would probably be things they needed to change in future iterations, so they made Zero and documented what they wanted to change/adjust in future androids. one of the biggest things they ended up wanting to rework is the development speed. Zane aged like a human child and that... didn't really suit their needs (They couldn't wait years and years. what if they needed an android to stop an elemental master in a week from now?) so One aged at a much more rapid pace, which was the standard for the other four as well.
All of the original six were allowed to 'age' because the engineers and scientists wanted them to be as human as possible. They were intended to integrate seamlessly into the Elemental Masters social circles so the theory was that, if they aged, they would be more convincing since they had human milestones (Even if that aging was sped up by a significant degree) which is partly why their trial run child was run at an average human development rate. Aging, too, allowed them all to develop their own personalities instead of being coded in, which would have made them much more robotic and less convincing.
Zero wasn't ever scrapped despite their 'issues' (I use the term loosely.) with him because he was still a strong, solid AI with a lot of work put into him. They were interested to see if developing at a different rate to his successors would have a notable effect on being convincingly human.
And they loved him. All of the people working on the Androids loved them.
Can we get more info on Five? If she can steal several elemental powers why can't Zane? (Or is it smth that has to be done intentionally in which case what happened with the previous Ice em?).And how does she feel about Zane being titanium?
i would love to talk about five!
If she can steal several elemental powers why can't Zane?
well, he could. He absolutely had the ability, he just didn't know he was able to, and had no idea how to do it. The only reason Five can absorb elemental abilities is because the housing of her power source is made from Chronosteel, and her actual literal power source contains traces of a synthetic version of the blue crystals found in the caves under chens island (Which is what allows her to take more than one element at a time)
Zane had the same powersource! They were made in the same facility by the same people with the same materials (granted, when Dr.J smuggled Zane out of the compound he had to leave behind a lot of his original parts. his powersource was one of the few things he made certain to take.) I like to think the whole reason Zane didn't instantly disintegrate when he touched the golden armor at the end of s3 is because of the chronosteel in his core. it didn't save him, but it bought him a few seconds of extra time.
is it something that has to be done intentionally?
yes, it has to be done intentionally! and it's not really an intuitive thing. All of the original Six had to be trained to steal elements- it's honestly kind of lucky that Five can actually do it. She never had real field practice. it involves prolonged skin contact and a whole lot of focus. Zane was never trained how, and even if he was he has no memories of his five siblings or the facility he was originally created in.
what happened with the previous Ice em?
PrevIceEM gave Zane ice. It was purely a gift. Zane absolutely did not steal it. When any of the original six androids steal an element, it does not actually belong to them. Just like when chens staff was destroyed and the elements returned to their original owners, when Zanes core was destroyed in s3 he would not have gotten it back when he rebuilt his body if it was stolen. Even if he stole it and the PrevIceEM died and the element had no master to return to, it would have simply chosen a new host instead of returning to someone that took it by force. (The elements aren't really sentient, but they do have some sort of abstract consciousness, and they really don't like being snatched from their host.)
how does she feel about Zane being titanium?
it doesn't really phase her all that much. She's titanium, too, under her synthetic skin. She probably knew Zane back before he ever had synthetic skin. He was actually the slowest of the six original androids development-wise (He aged like a human, while the others aged extremely rapidly. he was still essentially a baby while they were all going into adulthood.) so he wasn't being fitted with skin yet when she knew him.
thank you so much for the asks!! If you have any other questions i'd love to answer them! I really enjoy chatting about my ocs so dont hesitate to ask :]

Tbqh I personally would have preferred reading fast cars than misery returns 😅 I liked how misery returns started but he lost me with the bee goddess. Which im sure all stems from his situation at Annie's (I'd love to read some analysis on it tbh)
Which of his books do you recommend? I need more stuff to listen to at work
Have you read Stephen king's misery? Based on your oc Lola I think you might enjoy it
YESSSS!! Lola has annie wilkes vibes for certain. I havent read the book (yet) but i have seen the movie!!
though it has been a long time. I should rewatch it...

I went and read this book after this ask (well, listened to the audiobook at work) and I really think Lola and Annie are very similar. Lola is, perhaps, a but more hinged than Annie tho. I think ill make Lola's last name Wilkes tho... a little nod to misery
How i felt about the book itself: it was really good. I got legit jumpscared by lines of narration (not in that the audiobook reader shouted or something, but by the fact that there were a few lines that were so abrupt and frightening in context it gave me that same heart drop feeling) and I really enjoyed the descriptions of things. Funniest thing about the book: Paul Sheldons in universe best book evar, Misery Returns, fucking sucks LMFAO. The snippets we get of the book are just AWFUL.

Would it be okay if you could tell us the story of how you started drawing and your process over the years? Are you proud of your progress in the arts, including any favorites?
Sorry if it's too much :')
Hi! This is an interesting ask. I can try my best!
under the cut!
So i guess i would say i started drawing the moment I could pick up a crayon, which i'm sure is true for most people. I was the youingest of my family and my siblings and I were never close as kids, so I spent a lot of time left to my own devices, and usually to preoccupy myself I was writing stories and drawing illustrations to go along with them (My first graphic novel was based on Catwomans sidekick, kitty- an OC i made in 3rd grade based on the Halle Berry catwoman movie.) Here's one of the earliest drawings of mine i still have saved, drawn on printer paper before I ever got my first sketchbook
I read a lot of books as a kid and I used to draw characters and scenes from my favorites- including this scene from warriors I turned in to english class for a grade when i was 12 years old.
I transitioned into digital art arounf this time, but unfortunately none of my MSpaint traced sonic ocs survived. I started writing fanfiction and I still did tons of traditional art. Before I ever got a tablet or a legit drawing program, I would draw things traditionally and then trace and color them over in MSpaint- here's a deep cut from my past. WIld Kratts fanart from when I was around 16, I think. Entirely MSpaint curve tool
Then ! I got my very first tablet and downloaded firealpaca. I experimented with small animations and new shading techniques. More wild kratts for examples

I just kept practicing. I downloaded paint tool sai and had more tools to work with. I did a lot more practicing and experimenting and studying, leading to a quick learning curve upwards. I think you can start to see peeks of my current style coming to life in the 2016 drawing here, which feels a little strange in retrospect- but i suppose even then I knew what i liked when I was drawing.
there's not much more interesting things to tell tbqh. I got really obsessed with wordgirl, then pixar cars, then ducktales, then monsters inc, and now i'm here in ninjago. all my art flowed around to whatever I was most fixated on in the moment- i suppose in a way, the wide range of things (Cars, monsters, ducks, people) in these different fandoms helped broaden my horizons with my art? I just kept practicing and drawing and having fun!
Dr. Botleitner from wordgirl in different cartoon styles. I was experimenting a lot around this time
Human spongebob?? For some reason??
MY 2016 SING ERA!!!!!!!!!!
Now comes my ducktales/paperinik obsession.
Then I started monsters inc posting...
which all led me here, to my very first ninjago drawing ever
and then i became so sickly obsessed with zane that I just kept drawing and drawing him over and over until im pretty sure i can draw him in my sleep.
I am proud of my progress through the years. I might have to get back to you on favorites- this post is long enough, but i did realize there were a lot of old pieces i still really, really love.
that's it! I hope this is sorta what you were looking for. it was fun to go back and look at my old art.
if you'd like to see more, just let me know and i'll dig out my old sketchbooks and share some of my traditional stuff that never made it online!

When dot was in the never realm, was Zane still there with her? Or was he in that "between state" for 60 years
Zane is the melted link between ice and darkness, in the Never Realm he's stretched so far from darkness that he's lost half his strength- he's sleeping basically the whole time except im short minute long bits that dont do much but confuse and anger The Ice Empress. He can't be pulled back to darkness because the connection is stretched too thin and fragile I think... coma time.
