Set was using the rod for things that were very clearly nowhere near the realm of mind control, so that’s not it’s intended purpose, and while the Key and Eye have the potential for similar functions Marik is the only one who went “I’m going to start a violent cult that believes I am god” and it makes me think of like. You know that scene in Death Note where Ryuk is like “listen man we’ve given these powers to lots of different people over the years, exact same deal, and no one has ever gone this far with them. We didn’t even realize you could do that, and they’re our magic powers. I think there’s something wrong with you.”

Do you have a specific date planned for Arc 2 Chapter 3 to start, or is it just "sometime in September"?

At present "sometime in September" is all I got. I wanted to finish the chapter storyboards before I started finalizing and scheduling pages, and for reasons I'm still working out, I didn't wrap that up until three days ago.
I'm hoping to work ahead, get a good slice of the chapter finalized before I start uploading pages, storyboard the start of chapter 4, etc, but right now I'm sort of still recovering from how crazy long it took me to get through the events of chapter 3. Densest bushwacking I've had to do yet. I actually drew up a behind-the-scenes comic about part of that process that I can't post yet because it is radioactive with spoilers, but I think you guys'll get a kick out of it when I can finally show it. Here is the only spoiler-free panel:
