"salvation."
there she stands, ever the spirit of love, curiosity brimming in her pink hues. her head tilts, casting a gaze that doesn't quite pierce through the vesani. gradually does she stir through gentle waves of the pond, pursing lips purely for show. her lids become half lidded as she closes in, ghosting the fabric of the other's robes with the tips of her claws.
"answer me this; it is but a simple question, love." her voice is smooth and fluid, entrancing as always. thick with emotion as she paces around to behind the other. "what is it that you prefer?"
"is it adoration?" she palms down one of the woman's arms, light and delicate. carefully does she lean closer, chest to her back, allowing her hand to crawl further along now. to where digits could intertwine, if one so desired. gently she allows a whine, pressing further against ahri, letting her chest heave with a long breath.
now she lets out a hum, craning her neck to trace her lips along the bare skin of the vesani's shoulder. "or," she pauses, movements shifting suddenly. her other hand makes contact now, snug on her hip and creating daring inches up. ever slowly along the curvaceous side she's longed to explore. it is a bold action, she's aware. "is it desire?"
There is nothing she enjoys more than a chase.
Salvation needs to be pursued; it comes for no one unwilling, and it leaves behind all those who decide not to follow. For its embodiment, the fun is in the effort to catch her, even as she cleverly slips away.
Of course, other spirits need not pursue her like that. They are the same, immortal beings that represent more than rule over their respective domains. She finds Love's company most agreeable; whether for themselves or others, it is what drives mortals to her more often, more intently, more ruthlessly.
Love can be soft, as her sweet, enchanting voice denotes, as the light touch upon her arm makes clear. Ahri welcomes the closeness, rather than pushing the other away. But she knows the whole truth of it, old friends that they are: Love can be all-consuming, relentless, a fire that burns through rather than simple light and warmth.
She welcomes it, anyway; ever too prone to indulge in her whims — and, then and there, it was difficult not to want to be the one to follow for once, hardly immune to the other's allure.
A pleasant shiver runs down her spine at the warm contact of plush lips upon her skin. It is not her usual kind of game, wanting and being wanted, but it is one she is content to play nonetheless. Her fingers interlace with the digits upon hers, her other hand seeking Evelynn's upon her hip; a silent gesture of guidance, more firmly pressing the grip against herself, unbothered by the claws.
A giggle, then, so very characteristic of her playful nature; she is seldom serious, and want is hardly enough to change it. ❝ Why choose one? ❞ The question is and isn't a reply; it's not a choice, not really, but it is how she feels: entitled to everything, so long as she saw fit to reach for it. ❝ I find adoration and desire walk well hand in hand. To me, there is not one without the other. ❞

❝ Ohh — the internet says we're secretly married, how could I possibly say no to my dear husband? ❞ An amused giggle follows the pointed mockery of the rumors that arose from two entirely unrelated pictures for no reason other than their respective choices to wear rings. Some rumors got under her skin, and speculation over her private life irked her deeply but this time... this time it was too absurd for Ahri to face it with anything other than laughter.
The leader of K/DA sits all poised, hands resting daintily upon her lap. After laughter, a smile lingers; she does mean to answer, despite her initial jest. ❝ To actually answer the question, Sett is definitely... striking. Most of all I like the attitude. The paparazzi will have to forgive me, but I can respect a man who punches one of them to defend a friend. ❞
Plus, the initiative to gather the boys and create something together — to take a stand for their art in an industry unkind to anything that doesn't fit the mold? More than respect, I 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐄 it. ❞ Genuine praise, offered with no hint of earlier mischief. Her crystal tail curls around her seat, and a wry smile lingers on her lips. ❝ The gruff exterior with a heart of gold isn't my thing generally, truth be told. So the roughness I could do without, and I'm not a fan of the gym-obsessed part, but all things considered, I think I'd say yes. ❞

❝ He doesn't believe me when I say he's quite handsome, ❞ A giggle, as the vastaya adjusts herself, sitting sideways on soft grass, nine tails lazily swishing behind her. It is a silly game, but doesn't that make it fun? For now, at least. She certainly hopes the swordsman won't catch wind of her words, lest it get in the way of their friendship. ❝ But although he is foolish not to see it, that is not the reason why I'd say 𝒀𝑬𝑺. ❞
❝ Yone is... ❞ A kindred spirit, in some ways, searching for who he is, discontent with what he is, so lonely — more than he realizes. There is a deep melancholy in him that echoes her own, that draws her in; there is a concealed softness, made manifest in the gentle notes of his music and the careful protection he offers asking nothing in return, that soothes even her feral nature.
She doesn't have to fear hurting him the same way she fears hurting others ( oh, but there are so many other ways to hurt, and her claws were made for nothing but drawing blood ), but it's more than that: she trusts him. Their friendship is a safe place Ahri has not found anywhere else in a long time.
Tumblr media
And that he is prettier and more graceful than many dancers she had met certainly doesn't hurt. ❝ Kind, and caring — I bet he'd be an attentive lover, ❞ Her tone is playful still, as is the smile upon her lips and the glint in golden eyes. ❝ Too serious for his own good sometimes, but I reckon I could fix that. ❞
Tumblr media
❝ Yone? ❞ An unexpected name to pop up, she thinks, though maybe not so unexpected as Ahri thought it to be; something about being the ones in charge, be it leading the band as she does or herding cats as he does with the Heartsteel boys. Something about the similarities, though she had not expected others to pick up on them.
It's funny, in a sad way, that all these lives later they still have that same shared melancholy, brought by other reasons as it may be. But they're not as close as they had been, in a life as distant as to be the very first, when the world they wandered was one of magic and his tale carried far more tragedy than this incarnation does. Ahri realizes she can't answer with as much certainty as she may have, once upon a time, if the question was ever posed to her.
❝ Hmm, ❞ A thoughtful hum, filling the silence as she considers it. ❝ I don't know that I know him enough to answer, but... a tentative yes. He's been nothing but warm and polite whenever we've been around each other. And don't tell him I said that, but it would be 𝑭𝑼𝑵 to see our dear producer's less than pristine and poised side. ❞

Smash or pass Eve?
» — ⌜SMASH OR PASS⌟ ,
Tumblr media
❝ Have you seen Eve? ❞ The disbelief in her tone is playful, a half smile playing on her lips. Ahri sits back, blonde-pink locks tossed over her shoulder, and crosses her arms, as if to question what kind of question is that?! ❝ If there's a more beautiful woman I don't know her. ❞
Softer, Ahri continues: ❝ I think very few people realize the beauty extends far beyond her appearance. Eve is a loyal and caring friend, the type you keep for life and 𝐁𝐄𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐃. ❞ Many may consider it inconsequential for the answer to this kind of question, but to her, it's not — it matters far more than looks, even those of one as utterly gorgeous as Evelynn.
The leader of K/DA leans forward, as if to share a secret ( as if her answer had not already been given ). ❝ With so many pros, how could I say no? Of course I do Eve. ❞ She giggles, then, finishing her answer with more than a hint of playful mischief, ❝ Shame Kali got to her first. ❞

how often does ahri actively use her magic to charm people ? how do you think it differs ( or is similar ) to evelynn's ability to charm people ?
» — ⌜ALWAYS ACCEPTING QUESTIONS ABOUT AHRI⌟ ,
— @windchaser
Tumblr media
hi mars ily
so let's get to the questions in parts
how often does ahri actively use her magic to charm people ?
ahri can be very charming without using her magic — she learned certain mannerisms or the way you talk can get you far without needing magic. as a result, magic is her go-to only when that doesn't work; but that doesn't mean ahri holds back much from using her magical charm.
she'll use it whenever she is in danger (or someone else she cares about is!), as she does in a fair trade. if she's trapped or cornered in any way, it's her easiest way out and she has no qualms about using it. but it doesn't take something as extreme to lead her to charm someone, far from it. in perennial, she uses her charm to convince people it would be okay for her to bring a bodyguard to the inn should she hire one, after they tell her they don't want anyone dangerous there (:peepostare: at them telling ahri that but anyway). in the ruined king game, she uses it to convince the innkeeper to accept their money after he refuses it — but also to get yasuo a drink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
by which i mean to say: could this problem be solved some other way? probably. but it'd be inconvenient, so she chose the most convenient route and simply used her charm. same for perennial. but the added request for a drink for yasuo also suggests to me there's no moral dilemma involving the use of her charm at all, because she's not above asking for something trivial. which, to me, indicates she'd use her charm very liberally, whenever she wants or needs something and that's the easiest way to get it (even if other solutions might not be that complex!).
she has no qualms about using her magic like she does with consuming someone's spirit essence. i guess because she doesn't see it as harmful (she's not using it to hurt anyone unless they're trying to hurt her), even if it is coercing someone magically to do her bidding. because she thinks her requests are reasonable or it's self-defense, she doesn't see the harm in it. and as a result, i think she uses her charm fairly often. not all the time because most of the time she's able to charm people without magic, but if charisma isn't enough, she won't hesitate to use magic.
how do you think it differs ( or is similar ) to evelynn's ability to charm people ?
i believe their charms are alike in that, due to being magical in nature, everyone can be affected by it — romantic or sexual attraction is irrelevant to it. but while eve's charm seems more... focused on making people attracted to her (or at least it's more often used in that sense?), ahri's seems to be a more general influence. very... siren song, in a way, that isn't just about making people attracted to her, it's more about making people want to do her bidding, regardless of what she's asking for. but i could be wrong about eve's charm, i admittedly don't know much about it and how it works, if we have this information at all.
but yeah i think ahri's charm is not necessarily tied to making people attracted to her, it's about compelling people to do what she wants because they're left in this trance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in both excerpts, the description of the charmed people isn't in any way that they're in awe of her or drawn to her in any way. they're motionless, almost stunned — the focus is their will is not their own, and they're pliable under her hands for her to get whatever she wants to ask for. so i figure it might differ from eve's in that. because while she can use it to make someone act as if attracted to her, i don't think her charm inherently makes that happen.

» — ⌜NAME & IDENTITY⌟ ,
Tumblr media
ahri's name is, alongside the ymelo sunstones (aka her orb), one of the few things her family (or people) left her. while lore states the orb is the only connection she has to her past, it gives no explanation to how she was named — and given her name seems to be important enough to her she does not volunteer it immediately (i'll get to that), i don't think it was just something arbitrarily chosen, and is rather part of her connection to the vesani. how it was made known to her i'm still debating, although her tribe is the one with the power to store and pass on memories, and i imagine they could have left something that would relay that to her innately.
regardless! identity is an important aspect of ahri's story — the central one, even, considering her motivation revolves around learning about her past to find her place in the world and know who (and what) she is. even her struggle against her nature is deeply tied to perception of self and who she wants to be. her name is part of her identity, part of who she is, and part that is held somewhat guardedly.
the first reason for the importance of her name is that it ties her to her people, a people extinct, to which she has very limited means of connecting to. it was given to her (or so she believes) by either her family or those of her people who may have looked after her as a baby. it was the first thing she had, alongside the sunstones. when she was very small and growing up among the foxes, knowing she was different but having no closer kin, the name was who she was and what she was. she wasn't a fox; she was ahri. she had yet to find out what exactly that meant but it was who and what she was.
that doesn't change as she grows and comes into contact with the human world. it's her identity, even if she's still figuring out what exactly that means. and, as a predator, she would not have offered anything about herself, much less her true self, to the people she hunted. it became a guarded part of her because it was who she really was, and from the start that wasn't something ahri opened up about immediately.
even when she is somewhat trusting (enough to be deceived and attacked, in a fair trade), ahri doesn't simply tell people her name.
Tumblr media
where one would expect someone to introduce themselves in response, she just skips that part and continues asking about the topic they had been discussing. all throughout the story, she doesn't tell hirin her name. in perennial, no one refers to her by name, implying she never said what she's called. and, perhaps the more significant example of this, she doesn't tell yasuo her name until they're already in bilgewater, even though they traveled together by ship from ionia for what was at minimum several weeks, at most several months and she had already hired him as a bodyguard early on (and even then, she doesn't tell him immediately, despite him pressing her for any information about herself).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this exchange happens when they first arrive in bilgewater, and as seen above, ahri is still reluctant to tell yasuo her name. she more easily suggests they part ways than offers him her name. when she does tell him her name, it's after she charmed the innkeeper and yasuo is questioning her about what did she do to the man (and when he figures she's vastaya and she stops trying to hide that). i'd say even then, were it her choice alone, ahri wouldn't have said it — but because he was already insisting on knowing about other things, she gave in and just revealed it.
on top of her ancestry and how connected it is to her sense of identity, i like to think it's something ahri has become extra careful with the more she learned about vastayan culture. nothing in lore states anything in particular about names, but the vastaya do have a whole 'words have power' thing going on, with how a declaration of belonging to each other is enough to form a bond between two people, even linking (albeit weakly) their magic to each other. i like to think that, because of that, names would also be seen as somewhat.. sacred may not be the word, but deserving of respect. what you call someone isn't trivial; their given name isn't just a word, it's tied to who they are. and, learning about that, ahri would be even less likely to tell her name to someone she doesn't trust. being vastaya is also central to the identity she's been building (it wasn't always, but it became significant to her and she came to identify with it), and their beliefs and customs would definitely play a part and influence how she acts even though she didn't grow up immersed in that culture.
the main point here is that 'ahri' has always been who she was and it was also what she was for the longest time, as she believed there was no one like her and didn't know anything about her people. it was what she was even when ahri didn't know exactly what that meant. honestly i think she still doesn't fully know, but it's still something she sees as central to who she is, and she doesn't reveal anything about who she really is to anyone if there's not a degree of trust. if she eventually volunteers the information to someone, it's definitely because she trusts them; so being called by her name is usually something intimate, though there are exceptions to that (such as the entirety of the ruined king crew knowing her name because yasuo says it).
i don't know what exactly is the point to this or if i even said everything i meant to say but. yeah. names are important to her and she doesn't willingly share her name unless she trusts someone.

i wrote about it in one of the birthday asks and never mentioned it again but base verse ahri would have no idea when her birthday is and i don't think she had a significant event she'd want to use as a stand-in for the date either (for most of her life), so my hc is that the date she celebrates it in was a deliberate choice - prompted by the artist, after he learned she had never celebrated a birthday before. having to choose, instead of choosing at random she chose the day they met (and obviously this makes it a little sad after he dies, but it's still the date she keeps as her 'birthday')

ahri... around children... having a very easy time with them because she's so playful and pretty and they love her and it makes her 🥹
ahri with a traveling companion and they're in a village maybe helping with something and in a moment of respite the kids are just all around her and she lets them braid her hair and touch her tails and plays with them and it's so sincere and carefree and it's different from the playfulness-as-a-mask she often displays and i just think someone else she is close to or getting closer to seeing that is also. cute.
