“homer’s enemy” is such a fascinating simpsons episode because although it was largely panned by viewers for being too dark (even by the show’s standards), it’s gone on to become the number 1-rated simpsons episode of all time [according to IMDB] and most people who were young kids at the time the episode first aired (myself included) consider it one of the most iconic and classic episodes of the series

i admit i’ve made mistakes, i’ve been toxic, i’ve had a hard time with handling situations in the best way, sometimes i say things in the spur of an angry moment and i don’t always think about how the other person feels. these aren’t things i’m proud of but what i am proud of is being able to admit them and start the process of working on my faults. that’s what is important.

The moonsoons seem to skip our town. The rainy season visits for a few days between weeks. The heat makes me swelter in my room. My family lives with air conditioning. Everything hurts. Why am I trying so hard? Just to have next to nothing in return. Stockholm Syndrome is strong, but you can break free. My parents had me in the hopes of escaping the tyranny of their parents. They ran from their monsters and became them. My childhood did not know them, and therefore knew love. I used to paint portaits of perfect families without wanting to be them. I made them dull and predictable on purpose. They were happy in the square house. Did animators always make sure there was something in the main characters that set them apart? Sometimes its not my cup of tea.

having parents that were really angry and petty and abusive when you were young is weird, because it makes part of you grow up to want to be kind, to generate good things, to be a source of peace and wellbeing for others; but it makes another part of you grow up to be quick, and sharp, and spiteful, and that’s always the part that shows itself first in a hard situation, so it’s a struggle between your hateful gut reactions and your wish to not add any more misery to the world. it’s a hard balance, and the people who really, really know me - i know they see that anger flash in my eyes before i quiet it, if i quiet it…i want to overcome years of conditioning, and with gentle, constant force, i know i’ll mellow it. it just takes time.
