i have kinda like, AU/headcanon stuff about the leader ceremony and the 9 lives!

i have my own concepts for faded starclan cats and whats after, but this is just about the ceremony

i’m thinking that leaders will be given 8 additional lives by 8 starclan cats. when the leader loses a life, the starclan cat who gave the life will fade! their afterlife is tied to the leader, so when they lose the life they were given, the corresponding starclan cat will die.

i feel like this raises the stakes alot. ive seen a few fan works have cats be angry with a leader who isn’t taking risks for their life, like saying “you have lives to spare!”. so i feel like this makes it more consequential if you’re too careless with your lives. i’m thinking that the cats giving lives wont usually be new starclan residents, since that’d be really sad. your dead kit or apprentice or friend gives you a life, and then by the time you’re dead, they’re gone!

i feel like it’d definitely be a huge honor, but mainly taken up by older spirits. mostly of the same clan as the leader. the lives are lost in order as they are received. i feel like some new spirits might decide to give a life, and it’s seen as a very honorable sacrifice. they’ll usually give them as later lives! so that they hopefully have more time.

i’m thinking generally around 5-8 lives are from older spirits who are content with giving a life. and then sometimes a younger spirit from the leaders generation will give a life! when giving a life, the starclan cat will be alive until their life is lost. so it can be atleast a little while!!

i also think the cats who give their lives are very connected to the leader, and vice versa. the leader will feel very close to them, even if they might’ve not known eachother in life!

also, the 9th life is the leaders original life. this one goes last! when they die, their spirit goes to starclan. so they get their own afterlife :)

also i feel like this also means a leader could get less than 8 lives, like if there aren’t enough willing cats. and also the dark forest can give lives! but idk how that’d work much yet.

i feel like this concept is a little sad, but i feel it makes it feel more important. like i said, it raises the stakes!! i’m putting it in my clangen. i’m thinking cats naturally start fading after like, 5x the length of a cats lifespan. so its a long time!!

i’m thinking sometimes fading can take longer or shorter depending on alot of factors (historical influence, memory being passed on, and personal will to stay!). i have an idea of whats after starclan, but i haven’t planned it much! but yah, this is all just some vague ideas i’ve come up with!
