Unfortunately, in the scene of Beowulf and Grendel's fight, one of the guards gets gobbled up. So, in honor of that poor lone guard, I made a pony for them!

It...may be in poor taste, looking at it, but I do really love this one.

I'm going to go ahead and put a warning on this.

Works in progress for the Beowulf set. I ended up deciding on Gilda for Grendel, hence the hacked off leg. But who are the other two going to be?

Beowulf meets Hrothgar and Wealtheow~

If I’m painting Hrothgar, I’m painting his queen Wealtheow darn it. She doesn’t get nearly enough attention from the story or anyone else so I went ahead and made a Wealtheow queen. While painting her I realized the color-scheme I had in mind matched up with one of my friends MLPersonas. Since we don’t get much of Wealtheow and I didn’t want to give her a crown cutie mark, I gave her my friend’s cutie mark instead. Her colors are all mixed with gold, and there are even gold dots on her cutie mark.

This is Hrothgar, king of the Danes, lord of Heorot, and gold and ring-giver. He's not going to play a huge part in the scene I have to retell for Beowulf, but hell, why not make him? Helps me drag out the time a little more, and! I get more practice painting ponies. I went with a Rarity mold because it was too funny to me not to. The purple is much warmer in person, and I'm not totally sure why it turns out looking so cool in the pictures.

The cutie-mark is a crown with three gold rings around it.

And here we have Beowulf, all finished up with his manly beard and eyebrows.

His cutie mark is supposed to be a sword overlayed by a shield with a white hoofprint on the shield. His hooves are gold and his mane is blonde. I went for white because of all the religious and virtuous imagery in the poem, and because of the imagery of the white horse.

Work in progress for Beowulf! I'm using a Big Mac mold (clearly) because it seems to fit the idea of Beowulf, big strong obvious hero and all.

Sorry about the lack of updates! I'll be working tonight on my ponies for my English Lit. and have plenty of pictures to put up!

Currently I'm trying to decide between a Zecora model or a Gilda model for Grendel. Zecora is taller and has an arm I can easily take off for the fight, but she looks like another pony. Gilda looks really foreign compared to the ponies which goes along well with Grendel and has a clawed leg for the trophy, but she's the same height as the mold I'm using for Beowulf.

Any opinions would be welcome!

Vinyl Scratch and Octavia! They're my favorite friendship (at least in the background ponies) in the show by far. So of course I needed a couple for my collection. I would have liked to swap their poses, but my skills being what they are I had to compromise. All in all they turned out pretty good!

(The last picture is Vinyl picking up Octavia and riding off for adventures - much to Octavia's chagrin.)

And here we have Vinyl Scratch! She was kind of a pain to carve, since I tried to get the spiky effect from a Twilight mold. I would have liked to have her in a different pose but I wasn't adventurous enough to try and transplant a horn onto one of the other molds. Perhaps at a later date. :)

Until then she hangs out with my Octavia.

Cool News!

I have a project for my English Lit class coming up and my group and I have to present the fight between Grendel and Beowulf in a kind of performance-y visual piece, and I managed to convince my group mates to let me make little ponies of the characters and act out the fight scene with them!

So within the next few days I'll be making around five-six new ponies, namely Beowulf and Grendel! I'm planning on making Grendel have an arm that pops off. :) I'm kind of excited because I'll be able to add it to my repetoire, and if we win the little contest in my class we won't have to do a large portion of the midterm! Woo-hoo!

I'll keep the blog updated on the progress!

I ended up deciding that I preferred Vera with white accessories over ones that match her hair color because I feel they even out her design a little better. The purple is a little too much and changing the color of her headband and collar helps break up it up.

Octavia is one of my favorite background characters and I adore how wonderfully the fandom treats her. She and Vinyl have one of the most interesting friendships to me, so naturally I had to add them to my collection. Vinyl will be on the way to joining Octavia on my little jewelry box once I get her painted up. :)

Sort of a bonus picture while I work on carving my next two ponies: In the middle of painting Aloe she ended up looking rather (ahem) naked, so of course I had to snap a picture of the twins side-by side with an all-pink Aloe.

I was trying to see which design I liked better: Vera's canon design gives her a headband and collar the same color as her hair, but Lotus and Aloe have white accessories.

Even though I've finished the other bits (cutie mark using Lotus and Aloe's colors, eyelashes, blue eyeshadow) I'm still trying to figure out which accessory color I prefer, so she hasn't been finished yet.

The spa sisters, Lotus and Aloe! The spa friends set came with Zecora, Pinkie, and Lotus Blossum, but what about Lotus’ twin sister Aloe?

Well, here she is! I painted their cutie marks on opposite sides so I could have them facing each other like this and still showing their cutie marks.

Since I have another Lotus mold, I’ll probably paint her up to be the twins’ cousin Vera.
