DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE NEANDERTHAL CHILD WITH DOWN'S SYNDROME? Because they're all I've been thinking about when I'm sad for the past few days. Their existence makes me less sad.
Love Palestine more than you hate Israel. Love trans people more than you hate transphobia. Love the poor more than you hate the rich.
Always love who you fight for more than you hate those who you fight against. Otherwise when the Uniting Enemy is gone, you might start to hate as well.
serious post but: seeing how quick white queers are willing to throw people of color who are queer (mainly black and brown folks) under the bus while spouting bigoted rhetoric is not only scary but solidarity only exists when it benefits them or makes them look good. tired of seeing trans folks of color be absolutely terrified and scared they'll be exiled from community for even daring to speak their mind or because they sucked as a person in the past. people gotta realize the world wants to kill marginalized folks, especially if they're poc. you either are with us or not.
I will never forget the despicable pinkwashing, racism & islamphobia that have been used to justify Palestinian genocide & white supremacy. They'll throw you off the skyscraper in Gaza they said, you wouldn't have rights as a queer person in Palestine they said. As if Palestinians are a monolith, as if they're just incapable of being hospitable and kind- as if they cant be queer, as if they aren't humans with names, lives, dreams, hopes-
Am not Palestinian, I am Jordanian Syrian. Born, raised, lived, in SWANA, its not perfect, but it is home. MY home. My traditional food my language my family my community. The land that shaped me and many others like me that we swore to fight for. Palestinians aren't any different, they will never stop fighting for their home.
No queer liberation without Palestinian liberation. We aren't free until ALL of us are free.
I hope they get to watch the beautiful sunset above the sea. I hope he gets to kiss Younus, after he lives a long, long life.
edit: I wasn't expecting it but im so glad this post is receiving attention. I apologize if my words are all over the place, I wrote this late at night and I was overrun by emotions. Please keep fighting for queer Palestinians, for all Palestinians, to be free of this apartheid.
Disclaimers: while I have been learning ASL (American Sign Language, I am not yet fluent. Also, I am not deaf. Both of these things being said, I have been learning ASL for nearly a year and I’ve been doing independant research about the language itself and the Deaf community. What I’ve listed below are things that I have learned from my own personal experience signing, what I’ve learned in my ASL class, and what I’ve learned from my independant research.
1) When you write signed dialogue, use quotation marks and everything else you would use for any other type of dialogue. Yes, I know they didn’t do that in the Magnus Chase series, but many Deaf readers were made uncomfortable at the choice to depict sign language as not speech. Establish early on that the character signs and then use tags such as “xe signed,” or “hir motions were snappy with irritation.”
2) Without facial expressions, someone’s signs are going to be almost meaningless. All of the grammar is in the face, as are some descriptors. For example, if you can’t see a character’s face, and you’re only looking at their hands, the signs would be the same for the statement “Xe doesn’t have dogs.” and the question “Does xe have dogs?”
3) There is no such thing as fluent lipreading. The best lipreaders in the world can only understand about 70% of what’s being said, and factors such as darkness, the presence of mustaches, lack of context, and a bunch of other common things can easily lower that ability. If someone’s lipreading, they’re taking little pieces of what they can lipread, and stitching together context and other details to get a general picture of what’s going on, but there’s still always going to be holes.
4) If you’re writing a character who can’t hear, know the difference between deaf (lowercase d) and Deaf (uppercase D). The medical term for not being able to hear anything is deaf. People who use their deafness as part of their identity are referred to, and refer to themselves as Deaf. They are part of the Deaf community.
My comic for SENSORY: Life on the Spectrum! Organised by Schnumn.
On harm reduction and understanding NSSI! Many autistic folk have normalised harmful behaviours as coping mechanisms in our daily lives and this comic is meant to help people recognise their self injuring behaviours and (hopefully) begin to see pathways to reducing their frequency.
THIS is a mega folder containing literally everything rwby-related that is available right now on roosterteeth (+v9). rwby, fairytales, world of remnant, the grimm campaign, ice queendom (sub and dub), vtubing, all the behind-the-scenes stuff. everything.
plus soundtracks for every volume + IQ, and drm-free epubs.
i will add any additional rwby content released during the wind down period as it becomes available. V1-8 have an english subtitle track embedded in the files, V9 does not because it came from CR. IQ dub has english subtitles. and for the sake of completeness i pulled all the non-english subs available on CR for V1-9 as well, those are in there as loose .ass files for the time being.
whenever possible, buy physical media. learn how to strip drm out of digital content that you own and make it a habit to do so.
oh, the game that changed my life is TWO DOLLARS on Steam right now
It wasn't the first time I played Celeste, but later, when I was ready to hear it, that it taught me that the parts of you you're afraid of, that you wish would vanish so they'd stop holding you back, they're part of you. Trying to shut them out only hurts you, keeps you hating yourself. If you can face them with love and patience and truly try to understand and forgive them, then you can love yourself
I've lost my way and forgotten this so many times over the years, but Celeste has always been there to remind me, and every time, loving myself becomes a little more natural
💖🪞💖
(and even just for the gameplay alone it's my favorite platformer ever. for real!! two dollars!!!!)
the way sesame street, a pbs puppet show for literal babies, is pressing on with pride content despite vitriolic monsters descending on every post to insinuate they're pedophiles or demons while some of the biggest companies on the planet who could swim in olympic swimming pools of money like scrooge mcduck on steroids buckle and cave just emphasizes how completely and utterly pathetic these corporations are. they'd butcher a baby if it meant saving a penny.
