Renji’s Cowardice

So this is something I’ve been wanting to talk a bit about, even though I’ve commented on it to other fellow fans, but decided maybe I should make a post about it. This got longer than expected, so long post ahead:

I’m one of those few people who don’t believe Renji had feelings for Rukia, or if at all, they were so subtle, they were barely there - ‘cause they can easily be interpreted as that of friendship or siblings.

We know he certainly cared about her, they were childhood friends, helping each other through hard times, the ONLY survivors from their friend group in the Rukongai, & the only ones out of them who had reiatsu. So, obviously, they had a tight bond.

But…there was nothing more. That scene in the anime (ep. 32) where Renji stares at Rukia in the lake during his childhood memories? Filler - like most of the episode. It wasn’t in the manga. Check out chapter 98 (which also has a lot of the scenes I will mention here).

When I first watched that, I thought maybe he liked her (so then why did he hurt her?), but as I got further into the anime, no such scene ever happened again, nothing else that indicated he might like her. Then eventually I read the manga, & bam! - obviously there’d been nothing else, since the scene hadn’t been there to begin with.

So if you believe Renji was deeply in love with Rukia… Well, that’s not what I saw in the following scenes.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but isn't it implied that Renji would do nothing about Rukia's sentence if Ichigo and friends didn't show up? I mean yes, he seems shocked at Byakuya's decision, but he also doesn't do anything about it? He challenges Byakuya but even if he was defeated, it would not change Rukia's sentencing. Moreover, this fight does feel like it's about Renji's ego mostly, too. I just can't deal with people telling me "Oh, Renji would die for Rukia!" while he doesn't even dare to challenge the system to fight for her life in any way. Also his comment in Hueco Mundo, where he chastises Ichigo for worrying about Rukia because of "warrior code". It was probably meant to be interpreted as "Rukia can stand on her own and you shouldn't worry", but it comes off as him being a nasty stickler for rules. Especially considering Ichigo was essentially right, and Rukia was borderline dead.

I really like Rukia's character and lately I have been thinking that as an ichiruki shipper I can forgive all the bait Kubo did about them and forgive ichi*hime happened, but I really dislike Ren*ruki because Rukia deserved better and Renji is a cretin and a boring character.

Saying that Ichiruki doesn't parallel Isshin and Masaki is kinda funny because it's the opposite! Kubo copied himself the Ichiruki moments from the first two arcs and decided to put into Ichigo's parents relationship, he decided himself to use Ichigo and Rukia panels to make Isshin and Masaki romantic 🤷‍♀️

I think its funny that IR antis will discard any possibility of the Ichiruki and Masisshin rescue scenes paralleling eachother because of the ichigo-throwing-rukia-at-renji gag, because apparently that means Ichigo doesn’t want to protect Rukia and doesn’t value her safety.

That argument maybe would have merit if it weren’t for the fact Ichigo spent the entire latter half of the arc declaring over and over that he will save Rukia, he will not let her die, and on top of it all fighting everyone including her own BROTHER just to save her. Yeah, okay, he definitely doesn’t wanna protect her..

Before I started watching the anime I've seen people saying that "The first and second arc have a lot of IR scenes added unnecessarily". I generally tend to like canon ships, so I decided to just pay attention and watch anyway.

I pick up a manga right before Hueco Mundo arc, take a look: and you know what? All the IchiRuki scenes I thought were filler are actually CANON. The Urahara-Ichigo talk? Canon. Renji looking at Rukia all like "I haven't seen her this happy in a long time"? CANON!

That scene where Ichigo is clearly upset and only Rukia is able to cheer him up? Sure is canon.

They have to gaslight the first-time watchers so that they believe the canon ships are more valid than they actually are. This is absolutely insane, btw.

i might be a year late to this, but why was rukia removed from the character polls in anime trending from last year? i used to vote for her, but suddenly found i couldnt anymore, which was odd cause loess relevant characters where still in the polls. is it really just character hate? is it true that a large chunk of the fandom hates rukia? not like people cant dislike a fictional character, and shes mostly well liked, but i saw a clip going around where the bleach eng vas were calling her an "old hag" and "immature" in the same breadth and people cheering, idk if i can comment on their reading comprehension but where does it come from??

Omg anon I kinda suck at remembering these kind of things...so uhm I think she was removed when she didn't appear in the anime episode? I do remember her placing high when she had her bankai episode. Now I may be confusing sites but isn't this the site that removed ichiruki from the shipping poll too? And gave all the votes we gave to them to the other ship? Smh. There was a fuss about all that (if it's that anime trending polls site) and then we didn't bother to vote anymore after that, what's the point when it's rigged, as you said there were other irrelevant characters so, the excuses were bad. I have no idea what happened after that tbh since I just stopped checking.

As for the VA thing, that's an old story, I've heard of it years ago, when the anime was still ongoing I think, I've never bothered with anything regarding those VA tbh, calling them unprofessional is even being too nice to them.

The problem is that the fandom "now" sucks, they are obsessed with Kub0 and cAnOn, no one is allowed to criticize anything, they are obsessed with anything and anyone that goes against that. There is also a rewrting history thing going on, they clam things that never happened and talk about "facts" that are untrue. It's a mess, which is why I have almost no idea what goes on in the fandom. I can't be bothered with such nosense.

As for Rukia's hate? Eh they try so hard to prop other characters up, so, so hard, but just look at what happens anytime we get some new Rukia content. Her bankai episode made the fandom explode. Kub0 dropped a new piece of her just yesterday and look at the reactions that got. Rukia still placed first in some official polls not long ago. She is still the best and very much loved.

When did it become a thing - that , ' the old anime pushed IR ' ? Did Abe ever even say that he likes IR ? And also , if he truly pushed IR - then why does IH have a filler handholding scene after the Grimmjow fight ? Why is there an IH ' hug ' scene in the Hell Movie ? If he is so PRO IR - why then did he ever allow any of these IH scenes ? And that's just naming a few of them because there's much more Me , I think the truth is , he tried to give everybody something - every character and every ship IR though is the heart and soul of Bleach - so it's just super easy and natural and organic to give them the most things And , a lot of their anime only scenes are reused in one way or another from their manga content Antis act like Abe had IR fuck or something - ha , which they do have eye sex in Kubo's Honeymoon art

I don't remember anything particular about Abe tbh? I think he never said much about ichiruki? I dunno, I just remember some interviews with Kubo but that was about the zanpaktou filler arc?

Anwyay, nothing even matters, because anti making excuses about ichiruki incredible popularity is just that, excuses, made up stories, lies and dare I say cope? Yeah they are having a hard time and cope however they can. You know they never even mentioned Abe before few years ago? You know who was responsable for ichiruki popularity? Kudo, Masashi, the one they wished would be fired when the new anime would be back. They harassed him even on his twitter, but anyway, when Masashi Kudo was in fact still hired and is working still now on the new anime, they had to switch the focus and now Abe is the bad guy.

As I said before none of this matters, they're just desperate and rewrting history. IchiRuki was popular from the get go, Bl3ach got popular bc of them, they should just suck it up and stfu.
