Webb Explores a Pair of Merging Galaxies by James Webb Space Telescope 270 million light-years away, a pair of entwined galaxies are colliding together, creating new stars at a rate more than 20 times that of our Milky Way. Webb’s latest image shines a new light on these interacting galaxies.
When seen by Hubble in visible light, the centers of the galaxies are obscured by dark dust. With its infrared vision, Webb is able to complement Hubble data by piercing through the gaseous veil, revealing bright galactic cores.
