it is so fucking hilarious that a show that is essentially the criticism of capitalism fell into the pressure of capitalism and had 2 more seasons produced when the director initially conceptualized it as a limited series - irony, my beloved, I hope you will never die

Adding the democratic process to the games this season was not exactly a subtle metaphor, but it was an effective one. So many of us have felt the brutality of trying to make democracy work under a capitalist system that encourages those who have to oppress the have nots, to view politics as a zero sum game, and to wield their votes as a weapon to hoard wealth and resources for themselves. I can’t say this was a pleasant watch, but it definitely felt honest.

I Saw the TV Glow is such a uniquely, devastatingly queer story. Two queer kids trapped in suburbia. Both of them sensing something isn’t quite right with their lives. Both of them knowing that wrongness could kill them. One of them getting out, trying on new names, new places, new ways of being. Trying to claw her way to fully understanding herself, trying to grasp the true reality of her existence. Succeeding. Going back to help the other, to try so desperately to rescue an old friend, to show the path forward. Being called crazy. Because, to someone who hasn’t gotten out, even trying seems crazy. Feels crazy. Looks, on the surface, like dying.

And to have that other queer kid be so terrified of the internal revolution that is accepting himself that he inadvertently stays buried. Stays in a situation that will suffocate him. Choke the life out of him. Choke the joy out of him. Have him so terrified of possibly being crazy that he, instead, lives with a repression so extreme, it quite literally is killing him. And still, still, he apologizes for it. Apologizes over and over and over, to people who don’t see him. Who never have. Who never will. Because it’s better than being crazy. Because it’s safer than digging his way out. Killing the image everyone sees to rise again as something free and true and authentic. My god. My god, this movie. It shattered me.

this isn’t normal. this isn’t how life is supposed to feel. if you don’t think about it it can’t hurt you. I found our hearts and they were still beating. there is still time.

I saw tv glow is like YES the realization you are trans might implode your life and make the world you live in uninhabitable but that will happen anyway if you don’t do anything about it. if you retreat from your own needs and refuse to let yourself resurrect you’re still gonna run out of air and even the tv show that kept you alive at one point won’t be able to bring you back

so much of the horror genre is informed by the metaphor of queer/transness as monstrousness. especially emphasizing the amount of horror that depends on the audience's repulsion at seeing a human body changing into a new, other body. I Saw the TV Glow is about the horror of NOT transitioning. the horror of static. the horror of looking into yourself and being terrified of what you see. the horror of seeing who you are and choosing to do nothing about it. the horror of looking away. and by god is it terrifying.

The shadow jumper (Abyssus souperluminalis), also known as the greater soot sprite or voidstalker, is a small demonoid common to many of the abyssal biomes beneath the Sunken Contintent. Powerful legs as well as its long tail aid it in jumping across large gaps in the relatively lower gravity of the abyss. Its body is covered in a thick, downy double-coat of fur that acts as insulation. Jumpers constantly shed soot-like dander that is both dusty and bitter-smelling, warding off many would-be predators. Jumpers are solitary ambush hunters and often use their club-like tail plume to stung prey.
