Spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Episode 6

Okay, so the fight between Daredevil and Muse in the former’s subway tunnel torture room/art studio is probably one of the best Marvel fight scenes put to film.

It’s tightly choreographed, shot and lit in such a way that the audience can see what’s going on and can follow the action, and is scored with a beautiful remix of the Netflix show’s opening score.

Also, despite both combatants wearing masks, you can clearly understand their thoughts and emotional reactions.

Muse is simultaneously *pissed off* that his work was interrupted and *terrified* that a legendary vigilante has seemingly returned from the dead *specifically* to kick his ass.

Daredevil, by contrast, is clearly reveling in the violence that he’s been working hard to suppress since his best friend was killed in episode one. *BUT* he’s also aware that he’s on a timer, because the young woman (Angela Ayala) he’s trying to save is actively being bled dry and could very well die if he gets sidetracked by indulging his desire for violent retribution.

As if this weren’t enough, the fight is juxtaposed with another fight going on simultaneously between Kingpin and the man his wife cheated on him with. These fights beautifully capture how both men are channeling their innately violent natures (a common theme they share and something they’re both trying to rise above).

Kingpin is failing to rise above it because he’s channeling it into a personal and sadistic vendetta against someone who clearly doesn’t stand a chance against him. It’s blatantly one-sided and serves no purpose other than allowing Kingpin to have a living punching bag that he can vent his betrayed rage upon.

In stark contrast, Daredevil is using his violent nature *in the service* of rescuing another person, thereby using it as a vehicle to deliver salvation for the innocent and retribution to their assailant. He never once loses sight of his actual objective and abandons the fight several times to try to save Angela (and ultimately allows Muse to escape so that she can be saved).

It’s a gorgeously portrayal of why Daredevil the hero of the show and why Kingpin isn’t, despite them having an identical inner conflict.
