the reason "robot racism" is often a really stupid metaphor is the same reason that like. discrimination against demons or vampires or whatever doesn't work, is because there's often a pretty justified reasons humans are scared of vampires or robots or whatever, in a way that doesn't apply to real life minorities, like a fantasy author will be like "the reason vampires are discriminated against is because most of them and kill and eat people for fun and pleasure, and so humans respond by trying to kill them, isn't that so sad" and like no that's a perfectly fine reason to not trust vampires i think.

I captured a spider in a used paper towel tube yesterday morning because I wanted it to be outside of my bedroom. It descended from the ceiling of my bedroom. Right above my bed. I was a little startled. Thankfully I’m pretty sure my region doesn’t have venomous spiders. I caught it and then got it outside. I think spiders are cool but I like them to not be in my bedding lol. I’m curious if you have any cool or unsettling biology facts about spiders on hand. Totally fine if not!

I didn’t take a picture of the spider but I think it was a yellow sac spider, based on the pictures I see online and the region.

I also captured and relocated a yellow sac spider from my house this week! in lieu of spider facts, here is my small-invertebrate capture technique (easier than the toilet paper tube or cup and less likely to injure you/the subject)

step 1: get a piece of paper towel or kleenex and crumple it into a VERY loose ball, like so:

step 2: place the ball of paper product in your dominant hand, with your hand curled around it so you can kind of compress it from all directions

step 3: GENTLY plop the crumpled ball on top of your subject, and squeeze hard enough to slightly compress the ball: this takes some practice, but this technique is pretty forgiving with how much pressure you can apply without actually murdering the capture subject. the paper just folds in around them and immobilizes them without hurting them, like a bug straightjacket.

step 4: maintain pressure and take your paper ball outside, then shake it out like a towel and watch the subject go flying into the bushes
