(rant tw) Mango you are one of the famous desis i know on this site and you are the easiest for me to approach so can I request one thing from you? Can you perhaps either make a post or reblog any post saying "please tweet about India's shitty condition" because we know modi govt fears defamation.. if somehow you could get the word around and urge non-indians or indians also to spam social media, mainly twitter, with India's shit condition and do this all while tagging celebrities who seem to be helpful in this all or even PMs or Prezs or Ministers of other counties... Please urge those who can to elaborate on our condition with proofs and TAGGING OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE I REPEAT INDIA'S ASSHOLE GOVT FEARS NOTHING MORE THAN DEFAMATION. You can see an example on how they were selling O2 Cylinders to others before but when they got slight intnl coverage on our bad condition that asshole started using somehwhat of O2 cylinders and guidlines.. please help mango as you are the strongest force I know who can help spread the word... I don't mind you reblogging old posts if u don't wanna make a new one.. but pls just urge people to spread the word on social media (esp twitter) while TAGGING important people and news medias etc.. pls
Anon, see, tumblr has limited reach. I don't have twitter or any other social media. I'm reblogging as many posts as I see about india's condition.
If you see this and you have twitter, please tweet at the indian government. People are literally dying in front of hospitals and in their homes because they're being turned away due to shortage of oxygen and beds. The ruling government is holding thousands-strong rallies for the upcoming state elections and have washed their hands of the whole situation.
The entire onus is on the states and the centre is not of much help. Life-saving drugs like remdesivir are running out in minutes and hospitals are running out of oxygen used in ventilators. Social media is full of people begging for plasma, medicines, beds and oxygen. Everybody has somebody in their family or somebody they know who has covid. Hospitals are chock-full. People are dying on the streets. Crematoriums and cremation grounds are so full that people are being forced to cremate their relatives out in the open. People are dying and being buried every few hours or minutes. Doctors and nurses are working non-stop. The situation is literal hell right now.
And the government refuses to be held accountable.
The only thing which might spur the government into taking any kind of action is international pressure. This we know for a fact. So, if you have twitter, please tweet at the indian government. The situation is dire. Too many people have been lost already. I don't know how much reach I have, but if you see this, please reblog and/or donate if possible, and if you have twitter, PLEASE tweet at the indian government. International pressure is the only way we can pressurise the government into doing something, since they clearly don't care about the people.
If possible, please reblog this post with links to resources and other things you may find helpful.

Dear people on Tumblr,

I do truly feel bad for the young people who have been indoctrinated with the idea that “bisexual means two genders only and pansexual means all genders” because their entire identities as pansexual people has been built on a cisheteronormative lie that sought, with some success, to paint the bisexual community as bigoted towards trans ppl and exclusive of non-binary/third/mixed gender people.
There’s a difference between choosing labels because linguistically they describe you more fluently than others, and choosing labels because you have been told that there are material differences between them. There is no material difference between pansexuality and bisexuality. “Two or more genders”… extends to “all genders”. “Genders like and unlike one’s own” extends to “all genders”. There is no real-world, physical difference between the two experiences.
And this notion that bisexual people have ever, as a community, hinged the definition of our sexuality on transphobic standards, ie. “only cis men and cis women”, is biphobic at its root. It’s not true. It has never been true.
it is important to learn our history beyond what ppl on the internet tell us tbh like if you are a young LGBT kid, you really should take a trip to a library and read some LGBT history books. Google some. anything to get yourself some primary knowledge on what it means to be LGBT.
thanks for coming to my ted talk

also as a side note - a lot of people are trying to sow division between the asian and black community and it's very important to me that we do not let white supremacy divide us - we have a long, rich history of solidarity during the civil rights movement which has been buried in order to prop up the model minority myth, and the dismantling of anti-blackness in the asian community is integral work to be done - solidarity and collective resistance (and revolution) is the only way to move forward

To other Asian-Americans out there, I hope you’re doing ok mentally and staying safe physically in light of recent events. To everyone else as well, please remember a few things as you support Asian-American communities
- This is absolutely no reason to talk over BLM or pitch either communities against each other. We need to be uplifting of one another against white supremacy. Know that the phrase Asian Lives Matter, while with good intentions, does the same harm as All Lives Matter. Promote these phrases instead when possible: StopAsianHate, TheyCantBurnUsAll, AsiansAreHumans, ProtectAsianLives
- Remember that there are regions outside of East Asia. SE Asians often face more racism and are even more heavily underrepresented in media, they deserve full protection and support as well. Blasian (black/asian) people exist too and they should not be overlooked either
- Refrain from insensitive phrases along the lines of “if you like anime/kpop/vocaloid you should be paying attention” because you should not need a reason to care about human lives. Not only do these usually refer exclusively to East Asia media, our worth isn’t based on how much our content entertains you
- While I am referring to an incident in America, be mindful that racism against Asians does not only happen in the US. Anti-Asian racism has ridiculously spiked in Europe as well (within the UK, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Germany to name a few countries specifically) as a result of the pandemic

The events that unfolded over the past 24 hours in Atlanta were not isolated incidents. Hate crimes against Asian Americans have increased nearly 150% in the US in the last year.
Last June, in the wake up of yet another uprising in hate crimes committed by white supremacists, we released the following statement:
White supremacists, Nazis, and other purveyors of hate can fully fuck off. They are not welcome here.
These words are as true today as they were then. We stand with the Asian American community. If you see hate speech on Tumblr, please report it. That shit is not tolerated here.
To help the survivors and families of yesterday’s hate crimes, please consider donating to a nonprofit like the Atlanta branch of Asian Americans Advancing Justice if you can. If you can’t, consider spreading the word. We’ll list more resources and reblogs over on @action as we find them.
As always, please make sure you are taking care of yourself as well. If you’re struggling for any reason, please reach out to any of the free and confidential counseling services listed here.

I want to rage, to erase this crushing sense of helplessness in my lungs. To snarl instead of sobbing. I wanted to be shocked at this injustice. To be surprised and treat this as a horrific incident and not just a symptom of a bigger problem.
But I've witnessed how racist bigots reacted to Floyd, the instinctive racist response and "jokes" when people identified China as the one who was at fault with the whole COVID-situation, and how I immediately thought that those "low-key" racist thoughts will escalate someday to deadly actions. I listened to some of my friends when they said that I'm exaggerating.
And I wish- I wish I was. I wished that they were right and I was wrong. But look at our bloodied history. Look at where we are now.
One step forward, eight bloody steps back.
....stay safe.

the shooting in Atlanta of 8 massage parlour workers by a white man was a white supremacist hate crime and the latest in a series of attacks on Asians in the US. however, it’s also extremely important to note that the group he targeted are a community that is already more vulnerable to state violence than many, in form of police raids, deportations, and systematised stigmatisation. this is an industry that’s often conflated with and overlapping with sex work, and the industry has faced decades of criminalisation and dehumanisation, with a long history of being targeted by cops and systemic injustice along with racialised misogyny and fetishisation. they are also often excluded from conversations about the latest rise of anti-asian racism in the US, since many do not fulfill the “american” part of asian-american.
if you can donate, also consider donating to red canary song, butterfly network, and swan vancouver, grassroots organisations and activists that fight for migrant and labour justice for migrant workers and sex workers.

a friendly reminder that microaggressions against asians can also look like this:
pretending to gag at asian food
pretending to be weirded out by asian customs and cultures
excusing cultural appropriation (often through ignoring the stories of asians who have been mocked for wearing their ethnic dress while praising a white person for doing so)
not trying to learn how to pronounce an asian person's ethnic name correctly, or asking, "can i call you by something else?"
adopting an asian name for the ~aesthetic~
using the words "oriental" and "exotic" to describe asian people, particular asian women
ignoring the experiences and stories of south, southeast, *edit* west asians, and central asians
making sweeping assumptions about asian countries (including their political, historical and cultural landscape)
treating the entire asian community as a monolith and ignoring the fact that the experiences of asian nationals are remarkably different from the asian diaspora/migrant community
co-opting asian aesthetics into creative media without acknowledging their history
