Six year old, bouncing up and down with glee as desserts are unpacked: "I'm so appointed!"
Took me a moment to realize she had logically assumed "appointed" must be the opposite of "disappointed" and used it as a synonym for "excited."

The fact that beachers hope would have been the perfect place for Arthur to recoup and recover from his tb. If only they'd ran a few years earlier.

I keep thinking about this.
Micah is a rapist. Allegedly. Tbh, wouldn’t put it past him. It’s been pointed out to me that perhaps he said he “had” Jenny because he could brag about it and Jenny is dead so she couldn’t confirm or deny it.
But also, there’s the fact that Micah has the potential for change, but chose not to.
I recently found a clip where someone follows Micah after Mary Beth rejects him. Broke my HEART.

Sorry for the crappy picture BUT LOOK AT THAT FACE. :( HES SO SAD WHAT.
Maybe I’m stating the obvious, but to me, Micah is Arthur but with a worse upbringing, and refusing to change where high-honor Arthur did change. When Arthur attempted to show kindness to those he wronged, when rejected, he took it respectfully but continued to try, knowing he deserved that response because of his previous behavior but still being committed to changing.
Micah on the other hand, did not do this. As far as I’m aware he reaches out genuinely once, to Mary-Beth, to ask for that dance. Mind you, he did take the rejection more gracefully than expected. However, he never really did try to do anything like that again (as far as I’m aware).
I think Micah picks fights and is nasty because that’s how he was raised. Does that make it right? Of course not. He’s desperate for any kind of attention, and doesn’t care if it’s negative. He’s desperate for recognition, to be feared. Note that he goes after the people he considers “lesser” most often (the people of color, the drunkard). And when those people stand up for themselves (W Charles for TOSSING his ass), he slinks off to lick his wounds. Micah is prideful, with a very fragile ego. Thus why he takes a half-serious joke too serious in Chapter 1.
Additionally, the reason I mention it’s probably the way Micah was raised, is that despite him practically idolizing his father and grandfather, he also mentions how his brother, Amos, was “damn near killed” by their father. But then justifies it by saying his brother was a fool and a coward. But this brings up an interesting point: Amos was abused by their father. But Micah may have been as well, but obviously would never admit it because a) Micah’s pride would never allow it and b) deep down he probably thinks he deserved said “discipline” considering he respects his father’s worldview so much.
#EXACTLY my thoughts#i dont think he was with jenny at all personally#i think he said that because hes a liar#a very very prideful liar at that#he only said that because he wants to look big and scary
