little Countershipping AU:

“Alister, why are you blocking my way? I need to get to Yugi-“ Koki started while she tried to go around Alister. 

“Koki. No. You need to chill out-“

“Alister, please let me go to them…” Koki begged to Alister. 

“No way. You can’t do that.” Alister calmly said while holding onto her tightly but also gently at the same time. “Not now. Dartz needs us to watch them, not attack them first hand.”

“But…” she started and then sighed right after. “Fine. I guess you are right.”

Alister softly smiled at her when she finally caved in. “That’s better… how do you feel now?”

“Still angry but I’m calm because…” she started and blushed lightly. She looked away from Alister, trying to find words. 

He moved closer to her in awe. “Because…?” He gently brushed her hair off of her face and looked deep into her eyes. “Koki, please tell me…”

Koki looked deep into his eyes. “Because you’re here. I don’t think I would be calm if you aren’t around me at this time…” 

Alister chuckled softly and calmly wrapped his arms around her. “Hey, at least I’m here with you, right? I won’t leave you… never.” His face was sad for a moment and then he smiled halfheartedly at Koki. 

“Al- are you okay?” She said with a hint of worry in her voice. “You seem like… you’re sad about something. Please tell me what’s up-“ she gently placed her hand on his face, softly stroking it with her thumb. 

“I-I’m fine… just… past stuff, that’s all.” He started and he shed a single tear. 

Koki wiped the tear off of his face and looked deep into his eyes. “I don’t know if you know this, but don’t be afraid to tell me anything. I won’t leave you, no matter how chaotic it is.” 

Alister melted to her touch and smiled more softly at her. “You know, I wasn’t originally from here right?” 

She nodded and smiled back. “I know that, but I don’t know much… please tell me.”

“When I was younger… around 10 years old, my younger brother died from a war that happened in my country.” He started to say and then paused to look at her. “I promised him that I’ll never leave him. But he’s now gone and I feel like I’m a failure.” He shed a few tears while Koki wiped them off gently off of his face, looking at him with a hint of concern and sadness. 

“And do you know who led that war at that time?” He asked her with a hint of shake in his voice. 

She shook her head, listening and giving her full attention to him. 

“Gorzaboro, Seto’s foster parent.” He whispered in her ear, trying to hold his tears in. “He killed my brother- and that’s why I hate the Kaiba’s. I passionately hate them.”
