It is actually vital that people realize LGBTQ is a political issue. As long as lawmakers are deciding which bathrooms we can use and where our marriages can and cannot be recognized, this is a very, very political issue. Our rights are being questioned, even our right to existence, and to fight for them we’ve got to accept that our identities are being politicized.
No one should be ashamed to be who they are, or to love how they wish. Which is exactly why we need to accept the politics currently inherent in a statement like this one, and fight for our identities.

“I’m trans myself BUT leave it out of my game.”
This is so, so valid.
Before you get upset with people who are asking you to leave your gender politics outside of Splatoon, consider this:
For some of us, online games are the only place we can enjoy the company of strangers and be ourselves without our gender being a factor. Our gender is private, irrelevant to game play, and completely our own. We don’t have to disclose it, and it doesn’t have to be the political minefield it is in our everyday lives.
You know what I mean, my beautiful ladies who struggle with that five o’clock shadow. I love you.
Be angry about the hate, never tolerate hate. But when someone is quietly asking you to keep it down, try to keep in mind some people have their own personal and perfectly valid reasons for not wanting to have this discussion at the Reef.
That’s what Tumblr is for.

“Trans Positivity is NOT Politics. Let people be happy with who they are.”
I fully support people of all gender identities. And I am really happy for anyone who can be happy in their own skin. But to say Trans Positivity statements are not political is woefully incorrect.
Transgender people have only (relatively) recently been widely acknowledged in western society, and as such, their rights as an acknowledged and protected class are still being hashed out by several governments.
Gender politics are a very real thing. When lawmakers are still deciding whether you can use the bathroom that aligns with your gender identity, or if you should be forced to use your assigned birth gender on your driver’s license, your very identity is being politicized. That orange dumpster fire of a US president even announced a ban on transgender members of the military. The only way we can move past this as a society is to acknowledge it and address these issues directly.
The best thing you can do for yourself and fellow LGBTQ+ friends is educate yourself on gender politics and volunteer at your local LGBTQ+ centers! <3

Me too, friend.
I like Splatoon. I like the paintball shenanigans of these post-humanity’s apocalypse squid people.
I also enjoy wandering through the Reef looking at the doodles of my fellow players. I look at every doodle. I even mark some of them “Fresh.”
Lately, though, some of them are really begging for a response.
Welcome to Squid Talk.
