         “hehe, thanks! your moves are pretty tubular too!” they spoke with a wink and a little giggle, overly amused with the outdated slang as they idly skated around the rink in small circles, still catching their breath from that sick grind against the wall of the rink.

“well, my brother’s really good at skateboarding, so i think i picked it up from watching him! he’s way better at tricks, though. i’m just waiting for the day he goes pro!”

“…Almonds.” Sho genuinely doesn’t know what to say to that. Sure, they got nearly erased and forced to stay on the brink of non-existence in a form that was chosen for them, but they like almonds now, so it’s fine, right? He blinks and shakes his head, throwing out the entire thought. “You and Shiki must get along well. You both see the positives in any scenario, no matter how negative its summation may seem.”

Rhyme definitely seemed to be getting along just fine after the Long Game; out of the surviving Players, they seemed to be the one who had most settled into a normal life. Still, their experience resonated with Sho, and he wanted to hear more of their thoughts. “Do you still think about the Game? I always wonder if I could have changed my approach to increase my probability of success, but… would you have changed anything?”

“well, i honestly don’t remember a lot of what it was like to be noise, so it’s hard to be too upset about it!” they remembered getting erased, that was for sure. they remembered the insurmountable pain that engulfed them as every shred of their Soul was ripped to shreds. everything after that was sort of... fuzzy. “you’d be surprised about shiki, though- she used to be pretty down about herself... i’m really glad she likes herself more, now!”

a small pause as they contemplated mr. minami’s next question, a soft “hmmm” escaping them as they idly tapped at the corner of their face with their pointer finger. “nope! i don’t think i’d change anything about the game. maybe i would before the game, but... ” beat may have blamed himself for their death, but rhyme saw it the other way around. if they could have just recognized that beat needed some time to himself after storming off, he wouldn’t have had to dive in front of that car to save them. “the past is the past, and the best thing about it is that it shows us what not to do in the future. what about you? what would you change?”

One of the few things Neku really cared about was his friends.   It’s not like he didn’t care about everything else.   It’s just that even with his improved outlook on life it was so exhausting.  And honestly?  Caring about himself sort of took a backseat because of that, too.  Rhyme wasn’t the first of his friends to be worried about him, and he was sure they wouldn’t be the last.  But what else was he supposed to say?

Before he could fully respond, he realized Rhyme had taken his arm in what was probably a hug.

Yeah he couldn’t blame anyone who knew him for being hesitant to just hug him.

He gently took his arm back and gave them a proper hug.

“I’ll be okay,” he said quietly.  “And… yeah, not right away or anything.  But I’ve got all of you to help me, so I can make it there eventually.”

“of course, that’s what friends are for!” their smile came back, though it was a bit smaller and softer than before as they continued on in an equally quiet voice. “they’re always there for you, no matter what or when. the good times, the bad times... all the times.” they hugged him back as tight as they could manage (though it was nowhere near as tight as beat’s bear hugs).

“besides... you’ve been there for us all this time-” even if he hadn’t been here physically. “-so the least we can do is return the favour! just remember- everything’s okay in the end, so if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end!”

their little “we’re really sorry, sakuraba-san’ was muffled against the woman’s back as rhyme flung their arms around her, visibly shaking after the accident. it was their fault. they shouldn’t have put their drink so close to beat when they knew he had a habit of kicking his feet up on the table.

“..you’re not mad?” though they felt relief rush through them, they couldn’t help but blink in confusion at her words, unable to understand why she was acting so nonchalant about it. shouldn’t she be more upset? if it were rhyme’s parents back home, they would certainly be more upset. they would yell at beat for kicking his feet up like that because they’d told him not to a thousand times, and they’d tell rhyme to be more careful where they placed things. though rhyme would have likely escaped the situation without much reprimanding, beat likely wouldn’t be so lucky, and rhyme would insist over and over again that it was their fault, and not their brother’s.

rhyme was used to taking responsibility for things like this, even when they had no part in the actual situation. they just hated to see their parents get so upset with beat, and if rhyme could take some of the blame for him, they’d gladly do so, especially knowing that their parents weren’t quite as strict with rhyme so long as they were doing well in school.

but neku’s mom wasn’t mad or upset at all. she shrugged it off like it was no big deal. she was the one comforting them and it all seemed so backwards.

“i’m okay...” rhyme normally wasn’t one to be shy, but they found themselves incredibly off guard. “are you sure you’re not mad? it’s okay if you are! i can help pay for the carpet!” probably. they didn’t really have a good concept of how much things costed, but they had a pretty decent amount of allowance saved up!

“Ah...”

Emi blinks in surprise, pausing after setting a glass into the sink before turning around after feeling two arms squeeze around her stomach from behind.

Their face was hidden against her back, but there was no mistaking the strands of blond hair sticking out from their hat. Rhyme was shaking a little, but Emi only smiled before moving to face them. Their arms loosened enough to allow movement and Emi gently returned their hug. One hand resting on their back while the other gently rubbed against their shoulder blade, “It’s okay...There, there,” Emi whispered as she could hear a sniffle, “It’s okay Rhyme...I’m not angry. It’s okay...”

She had only been putting away a few things in the kitchen, not wanting to get in the way of the teenagers in the house. The woman had returned back into the living room to get her cell phone, hearing it chime repetitively to the point that she knew it was work. She promised herself to keep it left alone on the coffee table, but of course...Someone needed her at work to give input.

As soon as she entered, there was a gasp and sudden silence.

She had caught sight of something in the corner of her eye and when she turned around....

There was Rhyme, frozen as they stared at the obvious dark mark on the carpet that slowly began to spread. Beat was frozen as well, eyes darting from the floor to Rhyme and to her and back to Rhyme. Emi had never seen two teenagers get so...Tense, fearful just from something that was obviously an accident.

What did those two go through back home for them to have such a reaction?

A few seconds passed until Emi finally moved, taking her cell phone from the table and pocketing it. All eyes were on her as she walked over to Rhyme and gently took the the empty glass out of their hands. They looked at her, eyes wide and lip quivering a little before Emi gently shook her head and offered a smile.

“It’s okay...It was an accident,” she assured them before lightly patting them on the head, “It’s alright. It’s only a drink, besides I was thinking of redecorating the living room anyway. This carpet was so old! I had it when I was single!”

The room was suddenly moving again, light laughter before eventually conversation slowly eased back to its normal flow.

She took that as her cue to leave and now here was she in the kitchen and hugging Rhyme. Emi could hear them slowly calm down as she kept hugging them, “...Do you want to sit down with me? Until you feel a little better, we don’t have to talk. Just until you feel a better okay?”

REMIND // TO JOG ONE’S MEMORY AND REMIND WHAT’S BEEN FORGOTTEN

ANGLES HIS FOOT SO HE CAN ROLL IT BACK AND FORTH ON THE SPOT AND THUS MAKE THE SHOE LIGHT UP. “ Cool, isn’t it?! I couldn’t believe my eyes either when I saw them! The clerk said something about them being limited edition so that’s probably why. ” and then peering down at their own Heelys with unrestrained curiosity, mouth in the form of a small ‘o’“ They are making a grave mistake leaving them behind, I know. It’s a sad world we live in. ” a Heely-less world! A nightmare! 

                        “really cool!” there was a small giggle at fret’s enthusiasm. they really liked that about him. he always seemed so passionate even over the littlest things. he kind of reminded them of beat, in that way! “i didn’t know they even still made them. mine are so old...” they’d put the time and care into taking care of them, of course, just as they had with all of their belongings, (unlike beat) but alas, at some point, time caught up with everything, and it was about time they replaced theirs, in all honesty. they just hadn’t known it was even an option!

“well, history repeats itself, so hopefully they’ll make a comeback. and when they do, maybe i can get a pair that glow, too!” they made a mental note to look up the pair that fret had online, later. if they were a limited edition, they probably weren’t available new anymore, but maybe they could find a pair in decent condition on yahoo auctions and clean them up a bit.

Eri crossed her arms when she heard that Rhyme was being doubted. That simply would not do. Without any prompting, she took out her phone, wrapped an arm around them, and took a selfie. That would show those non-believers. “We can take another one when Shiki gets here, but that should definitely be proof enough for now.”

That’s when it sunk in what Rhyme had asked. A website? “We do have one, but I am so much happier to commission a friend to make one! We got ours through one of those business-y websites that are just too corporate for their own good.” Eri gave them a wide smile. She knows what it’s like to be a creator and will take every opportunity to boost her friends.

             rhyme hardly had enough time to reach before they were pulled into an impromptu photoshoot with eri of gatto nero herself! thankfully, beat’s spontaneity had prepared them for this, and they just barely managed to offer up a smile and small peace sign before the flash went off. “it’s fine! i don’t really mind, and i’m sure even that photo will be more than enough!” if rhyme could prove that they knew even one of the brand’s owners, then it wouldn’t be as hard for people to believe that they knew both of the brand’s owners, right? 

the pleasant smile on their face became a bit nervous as eri continued on, and they waved their hands a bit in dismissal. “oh, i didn’t mean as a commission! helping others carries its own rewards!” they held up a finger as they recited the quote, giving the older a matter-of-fact nod once they were done speaking. “friends help friends, and you’ve already helped me, so it’s the least i can do!” besides, it didn’t feel like work when it was something they genuinely enjoyed doing in their free time, anyway!

( ehehehehe okay gamers im gonna head to bed in a moment i think but thank u so much for going along w my hacker shit posts rhyme was already my fav twewy character and now i lov them even more. got smth in my queue for tomorrow for here and im working on a post for neku as well. ill be around more tomorrow! today my brain was just all over the place like i said before but i had a very very good day and i love all of u so much yadda yadda ill try not to be a broken record sorry fjdskf )
