Well this is the time I've been waiting for for a long time. Going home. Nine months ago I started this trip. I had booked a flight to Toledo where I hadn't been before but 48hours. Arrived to Detroit airport. It was a warm day I remember. Barely spoke English. It was like had stepped into a new world because I didn't know how stuff here worked; new country, new language, new school system, new team, and so on. It was not easy. Well time went on and things got easier. But now has become the time to go home. The home I can say I've been born to. Toledo has became home over these months here but nothing beats the lovely Finland. Can't wait for my mom's cookings, and to see my friends. All I can say. For the next time Toledo !(this is in 3 months)

Here is the final picture of the portrait. This picture took me a good time to finish. Together probably close or over to 6 hours. It was fun process though. I used white and black charcoal, and pencil. When shading I used Q-tip and paper. I learned new stuff throughout the project. I’m not gonna reveal my new tricks here. All i’m saying yes it is true the more u draw or practice the more u learn. The background on the picture is more detailed than what i did. I wanted the background to be little bit blurry so that the player him self would pop out more. And then I earesed around the figure to make it pop Out couple as much. “The customer” was happy to the result of himself. Artists are never satisfied with their work. I’m pretty happy, but there is something i would/could do different now when i think afterwards. Next thing i’m going to do is buy new tools for next projects.

I had this project on my fundamentals of drawing where we did these self portraits. Of course like the name says I did the picture of my self. I was pretty successful. I posted a picture of it on instagram. People liked it and gave compliments. Then this one football player of our university asked me to make portrait for him. I said yes why not. Week or two later he messaged me and asked if i’m really doing it. Then he sent me pictures where I could choose which one to do. Some of his pictures where you can see his face did not have enough highlights. So I chose this picture of him facing this crowd. Here the picture is still in process.

The portrait I used was/is based on this legendary basketball player, Michael Jordan. If u know anything about sports you should know who I am talking about. He is not only known from basketball but also his clothing brand. Last semester I had class where we did dot work and had to do a portrait as well. So this project was really similar to that but except this was on computer and with text. I used this specific portrait because of its high contrast between black and white. The typeface I used was the one the computer gave me. I did not change it because it matched my vision of the picture. I wanted to keep the picture simple but still interesting. So I used just couple editing techniques: area text and overlapping. I think i was pretty successful with the result of the project. I achieved what i was looking for. Clear shapes and shades. It’s simple but still not too simple. If I would’ve had more time to really do this project I would’ve get to know the application better and see what I could’ve done. Most difficult part completing this assignment was that we did not have free acces to the application we used so we really had to manage our time right. I learned that I stick with drawing that’s When i’m on my best.

Video
vimeo
This is my video mashup clip.
This season our team had an incredible year. We had our ups and downs during the season but we made it all the way to the MAC conference tournament. The tournament went extremely well. We won. We won the championship the first time in 16 years. We made history. The feeling after the game was something else. It was more than awesome. Personally I have never won anything big so this was special to me. The next step was NCAA tournament’s first round.
To the video clip I tried to capture the road to the MAC championship, the work we did as a team and the feeling after the win.
imovie was new to me so it took a while to learn it when i figured it out okay to use. I can not remember the exact editing techniques i used, but I tried (tried but were not so successful) to make the clip smooth. I typed a topic for the video clip. You can see it in the beginning.
I was not too successful with the video clip. Like I said earlier it took me a little while to learn the imovie. Me and computers do not get along. This effects on my successfulnes. Also in the beginning I had hard time to find what to do. I did not have any inspiration. When the inspiration hit me I was pretty excited.
To change my video to better I would probably spend more time on it. Make it a little bit more interesting. try to make so effects on the video.
Most difficult part about completing this assignment was that I did not have imovie on my laptop so i could not do from home. I own a sony vaio computer. I tried to do it on my ipad but it was too different and difficult. I went to the UToledo’s library and their Mac computer lab, but fast I found out that their computers did not have imovie on them. I had to borrow my friends computer to finish the assignment.
What did I learn from this project ? I learned not to do video mashup by myself. And that music and videos are only my friends only when I listen and watch them, not when I am making them.

Key I made in my art class.
This was a fun project to make. I had not been in class for in a while because we had been traveling and chasing the championship (which we got) with the basketball team, so this was my first project in a while. We took two full class periods to make our drawings done. We had to choose some small object and make it bigger and draw it from a little different angle than just flat. I chose to draw my dorm key because it was just close to me so i picked it. We got to choose to make the piece with pencils or charcoal, I chose charcoal. I used black and white charcoals. I also used paper to fade the black and eraser to make some highlights.

Tree in my notebook.
I have a bad habit to draw during class into my notebook. It is full all kind of sketches if you go throughout it. Some of them are just doodles and make no sense. Some of them are actually pretty nice.
So my friend and my teammate who is going to graduate after this semester asked to draw something. She has this bible verse that she loves. She had seen in the internet a picture of a text that had a tree drawn on top of it. She asked me if I could do it on top of the bible verse she loves. I agreed to do it. It seemed to be a nice project, so I just started to doodle one day in my note boo. Then I was like why not “practice” doing the tree. This is the result of it. This took me actually about three hours to do.

Project number 3 for fundamentals of digital media. It is an audio mash up project that is made and created on saundation.com. We had to create a 3 to 5-minute song. The project was extremely hard for me. First of all I had problems with the web site and the process of creating the song because I had no clue what I was doing. I have no musical talent what so ever. Not gonna lie I got help with it. If I have to choose this kind of work is the last thing I’m going to do from options that is given to me.
I chose audio files that were interesting to me and somehow fun to listen to. I used all kind of editing techniques. Can not even remember because I just tried what works. By myself i was not successful but when i got help from friend who actually has some musical ear we were pretty successful I think. I would not change anything because i would just make it worse. The most difficult part was the whole assignment. I learned never ever to involve myself with making music again. I have no clue what project 4 is about to bring.
We also faced little technical issues with the track. It starts over again at one point and we couldn’t fix it so thats the reason the track being so long.

Project number two. It is inspired by the work of Hilla and Bernd Becher.
This work show development through generations. All of these toys are from almost 100 year old to less that a year old. Here you can see how toys change during the years. There are different “fashions” going on, but at the end there is always the teddy bear everybody started with. The fashions goes back and forth just like in the real fashion world. The next day this is in and the second that, but years after the first one comes back in. The first bear is almost 100 years old. It belonged to my friend’s great great mother and now it belongs to her son. All of the toys in the picture belonged to her or belongs to her son now. Each toy tells their own story and secret, but the secret stays between the one who told the secret and the toy.

These pictures are based in Toledo downtown. The day we went to take the pictures with my friend started with a really sunny and beautiful day. First we went to take pictures to the other side of the bridge. Opposite side of the Toledo Mud Hens arena. We barely saw any people out there. Then we took a brake and got something to eat. While that time the sky had turned fogy and kind of dramatic and sad. No sun any more. This time we came back to the other side. Drove a little bit to find nice places to take pictures of. We found this big art piece of Martin Luther king jr. And around that block there were a lot of other nice things like this abandoned hotel. Tried to put the pictures on the video in a order to kind of tell a story.

The same crazy person who took a tattoo from me wanted me to design him a new one. His plan was that i design something for him and he takes it in London, England, when he goes there for a work trip. This person wanted something to do with storyteller and the fact that nothing can stop him and he that he is always moving on. So I came up with this little design. ABC: all the stories has a lot of words that are formed from letters. And the stories are told forward. Anchor: anchor usually keeps things (boat) still and not moving. So not even a anchor can keep this man settled.

My second tattoo I have ever made. I made it this past summer to this crazy friend of mine xD. The tattoo it self is a camera.
I have always been interested in tattooing and I have some tattoos myself as well. So my dad got me for my graduation present this tattooing kit that i could practice doing tattoos on my own.
I have plan to practice tattooing on the side of basketball and art(/school). That is something i wanna do someday as a hobby or as a professional.
Now it is any more of dedication and practice...and finding crazy enough people to want to be my practice skins.
