We have assembled amidst revolution in our home country, and are hence obligated to network, organize and support one another. Our mandate is to our people and our initiatives will therefore be primarily targeted towards them, as we emphasize the need for an alliance that knows no borders nor distance. While distance may not permit us to directly involve ourselves in our country’s political upheaval, we recognize that we possess resources at our disposal that will prove useful in the fight for freedom. Therefore, it is imperative that we assemble during this tumultuous time and do everything in our power to support our people. As such, we, along with our Sudanese community, support the revolution’s demands for the complete dissolution of the Bashir regime and all of its remnants, including the currently ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC). We unequivocally support the formation of a civilian government that will comprise of competent individuals who prioritize the needs of the brave and resilient Sudanese people who have been resisting tyranny since December 2018.

SSANA Statement on June 3rd Massacre
June 6th, 2019
The Sudanese Student Association of North America condemns the heinous massacres in Khartoum that began on June 3rd, 2019 in an attempt to disperse Sudanese protestors who have been peacefully resisting government tyranny since December 2018. We express profound sorrow for the families and loved ones of the men, women, and children murdered in the holy month of Ramadan by the deadly, regime sponsored Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and remain steadfast in our support for the Sudanese revolution.
The last six months have unequivocally demonstrated the resilience, perseverance, and bravery of the Sudanese people. The peaceful, two-month-long Army Headquarters sit-ins, which ousted Omar Al Bashir from presidency after thirty years of dictatorship, have produced a powerful movement unifying all segments of Sudanese society. The pursuit of freedom through civil disobedience is a testament to the undying and optimistic spirit of the Sudanese people, and will always remain a glorious and memorable moment in the revolutionary struggle. With that being said, the RSF’s raids of these non-violent sit-ins are nothing short of horrific, and constitute major human rights violations.
It is crucial for the international community to understand that the ousting of Omar Al Bashir was only a preliminary step towards freedom. Sudan is still controlled by a brutal military regime and the streets of Khartoum are under current siege by RSF militias who are indiscriminately torturing, raping, and murdering civilians en masse. The need for widespread visibility is vital as the nation currently undergoes a media blackout orchestrated by regime forces. Silence amidst these senseless acts of violence is complicity.
We call on you all to stand in support and solidarity with the Sudanese people’s demands for a civilian-run government and facilitate the creation of a free, peaceful, and democratic Sudan. Regards, Sudanese Student Association of North America
