whats the difference with chicana and xicana?

To my knowledge, there’s not a huge difference in correctness between these two terms. The “x” in the second term has to do more with the way Chican@ would have been written in Nahuatl (or at least in the westernized alphabet version of this language). In Nahuatl, the letter “x” is pronounced as “ch”, meaning that in this language “Chican@” would have probably been spelled  "Xican@“. Phonetically speaking in Nahuatl, it would have made more sense to spell it the second way. A lot of  people use the spelling with an “x” because it has to do with empowerment and acknowledging your indigenous heritage and rejecting the imperialist ties that come with the Spanish language and “ch” phoneme.
