“I’m not proud of what I did. Maybe the temptation was too much. But the greed consumed me to the point where I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.”
May 11th, 2012 - San Fernando, California
Temptation and lust often go hand in hand. Take an unstable woman on the brink of desperation, toss in a dash of greed and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a shit storm of chaos. Anyone smart enough would know to stay clear of such a toxic person, however, Mikah Taylor was not in the least an intelligent person. He was young, naive, heavily loaded with an inheritance after his parents passed away unexpectedly. Like any grieving young man he surrounded himself in women, drugs and alcohol. He was careless with his money, happily flaunting it to anyone that would blink his way. Unluckily for him, Casanova picked right up on it and swooped in like a lioness hunting for prey.
Nova left Sloane shortly after her own money her father had left her had dwindled. Luxorian was on the brink of falling into the clutches of the bank and as the deadline approached, she grew desperate and flew home to see her mother. It was silly of her to even consider asking the woman, her mother had been struggling to keep the house over her own head after Nova’s father had passed. She had barely begun asking for help financially when her mother cut her off and instead gave her a hefty lecture about properly budgeting. It resulted in a heated argument. Nova fled from her childhood home in a fit of rage, slamming the front door for good measure. She didn't blame her mother, but more so blamed herself for allowing everything to get so out of control.
It was no surprise when Nova found herself in a bar in the middle of the night. She'd had several drinks, most of which men had bought for her. She shook them off when their other advances began to irriate her. She wasn't in the mood, until he walked in. Mikah was a good looking guy, but it was the money he flaunted the moment he walked inside the bar that really snagged her attention. She was quick to work her charm and fight off any other women that tried to slide up next to him. Her mood had drastically changed from cold and sour to suddenly giggly and flirty. It worked perfectly, and before the night was through, he even invited her back to his place. She accepted.
Her first intention was to satisfy the lust that began boiling in the pit of her stomach. The heated night continued to escalate until finally both collapsed on the male's bed. Sweat licked her skin as they panted heavily with smiles on their lips. He was relaxed, calmed, laying bare naked next to her own bare body. It wouldn't be long after until he pulled himself up to fetch a small glass mirror and adjust two finely cut lines. He rolled up a bill he pulled from the money clamp before tossing it on his dresser. Instead of watching him take the line, her eyes fell to the heavy money clamp sitting so perfectly on his dresser. She nibbled on her lip. The bills were large, her mind trying to piece together approximately how much was clamped together. Possibly a thousand? Maybe more. Either way... it was so tempting. She would wait though. She would wait until he passed out and be gone before he knew what she'd done.
And she did. She turned down the line, wanting to keep a level head until the moment he laid back down and closed his eyes. She was curled up next to him, watching as his breathing slowed, his arm wrapped around her growing limp as sleep took over him. Nova nibbled on her bottom lip for a long moment, her eyes still staring at the money. She shouldn't. Stealing was wrong. Or at least that was what she wanted to believe, she wanted to keep her morals, wanted to be the perfect person. But she wasn't perfect, she was no where near and she never would be. He had plenty, he lived a luxurious lifestyle and surely a thousand or two wouldn't make much of a dent in that lifestyle, right?
She was careful, slipping from his grasp and climbing to her feet. Her hazel hues fell on the sleeping man several times as she got dressed, gathered up her things and lingered by his dresser. It would be another long moment before she picked up the bills and slid off the money clip. There was something about holding such a large amount of money in her hands, awaking a sleeping deep desire in the pit of her. Her fingers drifted over the edges as she watched the money fan out from her touch. She was still contemplating when he stirred behind her.
"What the hell you doing?" His voice was groggy, but there was irritation in his tone.
Nova had jumped and spun around, holding the money hidden behind her back and clearly not aware of the mirror over his dresser that perfectly gave her away. "Nothing! Just... needed some money for a cab." She nibbled on her bottom lip and stared at the male before her eyes fell to the floor.
Mikah got up from bed and walked over to her. There was a coldness in his gaze when he gripped roughly at her wrists and forced her hand in front of him. The bills were still clamped in her hands. He yanked them roughly from her and he picked out one crisp twenty dollar bill. He tossed the single bill at her rudely, his eyes narrowing. "There. Get out."
Nova captured the bill in her hand, glaring up at him. She didn't blame him, she'd been caught red handed. But she still stood there, holding the bill. He grew more irritated and turned to the nightstand by his bed, pulling out a 9mm pistol and pointing it to her. "Fucking gold diggers..." He let out a heavy sigh. "I said get the fuck out."
The gun only made her legs feel more like cement, frozen in fear and looking straight to the barrel of the gun. She swallowed the lump in her throat and started to process what was being pointed at her, a fucking gun. He was threatening her with a gun. He grew more impatient and stepped over to her, forcing the gun to the point just between her eyebrows. A small squeak issued from her lips.
"Are you fucking deaf all of a sudden?!" He hollered at her, applying pressure to the gun and making her blink in fear. She didn't even think when she smacked the gun from his hand. The impact caused the gun to fire and chip away at the paint on the ceiling. The gun tumbled to the ground. For a brief moment the two shared a glance before both bodies lunged for the gun on the floor. Nova was quicker and picked it up, pointing at him with trembling hands.
"Give me the money." She spoke shakily. He lifted his hands and grinned.
"Put the gun down. I wouldn't want you to accidentally shoot yourself.." He was stepping closer. His voice had grown darker, making her stomach churn with unease.
"Stop!" She told him sternly.
But he didn't. He kept coming at her and just as he was inches from reaching for the gun, it went off. A gasp fell from her lips. Looking up into the blank gaze in his eyes before he fell to the ground with a loud thud. A bright red crimson began pouring from his lifeless body, some stained the money he'd been holding on to. Nova was breathing heavier, her chest shaking with the tears that poured from her cheeks. She killed him. He was dead.
She didn't have much time, surely two gunshots would alarm the neighbors. She dropped the gun as it clattered to the floor. She was about to leave when her eyes fell on the money strewn around his body. Without a second thought she fell to the floor and picked up at much as she could before taking off out of the apartment and running as fast as she could. Blood soaked her hands, the money, blood splatter on her face mixed with the salty tears streaming heavily down her cheeks. She didn't know where she was going, but she just kept running.

“Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity.” ~ Christopher Morley
