thinking from it from a different context the basic unifying conditions of the nerevarine policy - an orphan, an outlander, and a prisoner - definitely are skewed towards someone who is isolated, disaffected, easy to manipulate, easy to indoctrinate into a cult, and easy to sell the idea of doing something harebrained and dangerous because you were given some world-saving quest as dictated by prophecy, who would likely rise to the idea that they were secretly someone special and important because someone from that background is less likely to have been told that they have worth and value in of themselves.

and all of that, all of that, is extremely sad and absolutely speaks volumes about how the differing political entities in that game sought to manipulate you

Ralof SHOULD be romanceable. Why can I not marry the first npc you get to talk to. It's LITERALLY love at first sight. What is more romantic than a man who would comfort you before your execution?

being from the merethic era, reija was instructed by the greybeards to sort of pretend to be amnesiac to make up for the fact that she legitimately did not know some goings on in skyrim, down to even the new imperial pantheon. so when some citizens grew suspicious of her lack of knowledge or care towards talos, she goes "oh sorry, bumped my head a while ago y'know?"
