ok but the way they've been on again off again for three seasons specifically shrouded in the colours of the swedish flag - showing us the monarchy has intruded on their relationship. even the good, even the private, and always, always the bad and the ugly.
💙💛
makes this white flag moment of surrender even more powerful. they're stripped of this blue and gold brushed over them by society, colourless and allowed to create their own existence - together, a blank slate. themselves, again and only - forever.
🤍🤍

sometimes i think about THE quote by the duffers about how much effort went into creating and embodying will in s1. he had so little screentime but should've been able to capture the audience and prove the characters right for being so set on finding him. WHICH HE DID. i've rewatched the vanishing of will byers like 5 times by now, and it doesn't lose its magic at all
i think one of my favorite moments is that one flashback scene where joyce is teasing will about movies, and they're giggling, and for a second you're truly IN THAT MOMENT. for a second you forget he's literally missing, and then it hits you with: "oh yeah, he's actually, truly fucking missing right now"
...and everything turns grey, and pitiful, and just. hollow without him

I may prefer gay Mike just based on my own interpretation of the narrative, but god, stay the fuck away from me if you’re going to spout all that terrible stuff about bi people and the possibility of bi Mike. As someone who’s really struggled to accept myself being bi, it is absolutely still filled with internalized homophobia and struggle, and either way, the narrative and the show itself was NOT written for somebody like you if you’re going to perpetuate bullshit stereotypes and just general grossness like that.
So please, block me if you really do believe all that stuff about bisexuality. (And if you really think that the only thing that matters about Mike is his sexuality label. I’m also quite tired of seeing him only boiled down to his ships instead of a whole character on his own.)

Okay so they want make Will guilty here just because he was afraid Mike will get hurt by lies and also cared about El too, that he’s gonna be mad at El (side note Mike was mad at Will becoz of El lies after all) also El and Mike were literally ignoring him for whole day, so Will had to be understanding but El is not? i know she was struggling and i don’t really blame her but Will was going through his struggles too, his best friend (whom he love more than friend) who he was waiting for to arrive just gave him an awkward hug and then ignored him whole day he literally felt miserable and Mike saying he was the one who ruined their day and blamed him that he didn’t tell about her lies just pissed me cuz he didn’t want them both hurt each other but got hurt himself at the end

So… in s4 ep4 byler is in good terms. They just made up, had 2 heart-to-hearts which were beautiful, intimate, even flirty scenes. And in the same episode Max (who is wearing blue and yellow btw) survives.
And in ep9 where there is this supposedly big romantic mileven scene, Max dies…

We are shown that Will wants to be around Mike despite their fight the previous day just before we see El being dismissive of Mike, clearly wanting to be alone. Mike tries to comfort her anyways but he makes it worse by doing this.
And then we see the opposite. El hides in her room but Mike doesn’t go to her this time, he stays behind to comfort Will instead. Will wants and accepts Mike’s reassurance. Notice how Hopper’s cabin was being rebuilt in both of these scenes? Yeah these scenes are meant to connect. It turns out that El didn’t want to be alone, she wanted her dad back. Hopper successfully comforts her when he shows up. El wants her family but Will wants Mike.
Mike’s choice to stay back with Will says a lot. Mike knew that El needed comfort but he didn’t know that Will did too. This wasn’t Mike choosing who he needs to reassure first, he was choosing who he wants to be with. This is especially interesting when you consider how Will told Mike that El needs him. If Mike believed that to be true, why wasn’t he going to her in the cabin? Mike knows more than we are led to believe but that’s not the point of this post. Will is the one who needs Mike, not El.

The visual breaking of the love triangle...you will always be famous.
It starts out with El, Mike, and Will walking into the field in their love triangle formation (that we have seen so many times the past 2 seasons). ⬇️
Then Will and El walk up to Mike at the exact same time. ⬇️
However, this where El chooses to walk past Mike and stand on her own while Will chooses to stay behind and stand beside Mike. El chooses to leave Mike. Will chooses to stay with Mike. ⬇️
⬆️ Also, Mike chooses to not go after El. This is very important. At a time where he definitely could have gone after her, he doesn't. He chooses not to. Which I think is pretty significant considering he has been scared of letting El go the past few seasons (to the point where he holds her back). And this is quite literally the most blatant visual demonstration they could have gone with of him letting El go and CHOOSING Will (which is no doubt foreshadowing the choice he's gonna make next season and the arc he's gonna have). Mike chooses Will just like Will chose him and he is simultaneously choosing to let El go.
And then we get more foreshadowing and symbolism of Byler going into next season as a team. They are literally FACING the end of the world together and looking it in the eye ⬇️
And then we get foreshadowing/symbolism that El is gonna go into season 5 more independent and determined than ever (with her friends and family backing her obviously...and finally no longer burdened by her relationship with Mike lmao). ⬇️
And I know some people will say this is a reach and that "obviously El is in the front with no one else because she's the main character and none of this means anything" and yada yada. And to that I say...be fucking for real lmao. If they wanted to foreshadow MiIeven endgame AND El being the main character at the same time, they very well could have done that. They didn't need to separate El and Mike while Mike stands with Will in between two canon COUPLES.
Anyway, I really think this little segment tells us A LOT about what Mike, El, and Will's arcs are gonna be next season and the decisions they're gonna make regarding their relationships with each other. El is gonna choose to leave Mike. Will is gonna choose to stick by Mike's side. Mike is gonna choose to let El go and be with Will.
The breaking of the love triangle!

Believing that you’re doing the right thing, when in fact you’re doing the wrong thing - a recurring theme in Stranger Things s4
First example that may come to your mind is Jason or Vecna/Henry/001. Jason believed he was doing the right thing by trying to catch Eddie, ”the murderer”, but due to the lack of information, that was a wrong thing to do. Vecna/Henry/001 believed he was doing the right thing when trying to create a different world, but the things he did while trying to do that were horribly wrong.
But that’s not it. Doing something you think is right, but is actually wrong, is something that everyone does in this season. I haven’t listed all examples but here’s a few:
The army
The army believes they are doing the right thing by catching Eleven, who they believe is behind the killings. But that’s a wrong thing to do, because El is actually the one cabable to help.
The parents and Erica
The parents think they are doing the right thing by trying to keep the kids inside even tho the kids need to be helping the older teens. And Erica thinks she’s doing the right thing by calling their ”bullshit” in front of the parents and police.
Jonathan
Jonathan thinks it’s the right thing to do to not go to college and stay with his family. But it’s just harming him and his relationship with Nancy.
Young Eleven
Young Eleven believes it’s the right thing to do to try and help Peter/001 escape too. But the consequences were horrible.
Max
Max thought it was a right thing to do to become a bait. And also to try and attack Vecna even tho she should have stayed hidden and let El handle the situation.
Lucas
Lucas that it was the right thing to do to try and become popular. But he would have been better off with his real friends.
The Hawkins crew and Russia crew
They thought it was a good idea to try and harm Vecna with fire and swords and shots, when actually that robbed Eleven a chance to finish him off for good. (Ofc we don’t know for sure she could have but no she didn’t even get the chance because the Vecna world just collapsed around her)
Will
Will thought it was the right thing to do to lie about the painting and his feelings when in fact… oh well…
So basically all characters have done this. Except for Mike.
Oh wait…
Mike
