One of my favorite HCs of Present Mic is that he speaks sign language, not because he is deaf, but because his parents are.

Mic’s parents wanted a kid for so long and went through treatment and everything else for him. When he was born, yeah, the scream and the bleeding from the ears was not expected, but they wouldn’t have it any other way after years and years of heart break. They spent so much time and money and pain to end up with this screaming bundle. What was a little hearing loss in the long run?

They grew and the hearing loss got worse before he got better at controlling it. They learned sign and taught Mic sign. It’s part of why Hizashi is really bad at controlling his voice and also why he lives so loudly in the first place. He isn’t use to someone telling him to “SHHHHH!” Because nobody could really hear how loud he was except himself around the house. He obviously learned sign right along side his parents as they learned late in life. He loves both of his parents and enjoys video calls where they can speak animatedly about their day. He is just as ‘loud’ when he signs as he is as a speaker, favoring big movements and over exaggerated expressions, which has carried over into his regular speaking where he makes broad hand sweeps and lots of head bobbing with extreme hype and max emotion.
