Oh hey, if you followed me for Lolita fashion, I really appreciate it, but I collect dolls more now and you can definitely unfollow me if that is not your jam. No hard feelings. Also I’m really sorry if dolls scare you.

The mere existence of legitimate concerns regarding the character indicates the existence of a problem. I don't agree that the character needs to wear a handkerchief and ripped tights if she needs to breathe through her skin. In the metal gear solid universe there could exist a very breathable fabric that allows for more skin coverage. Also; why create a character with a condition that inherently excuses this scanty outfit design? While there is definitely something wrong with the way that we perceive games, we can't really excuse the creators. Quiet may be more than only fanservice, but if some part of her remains fanservice, is that still okay?
And okay. So she keeps wearing that outfit. And maybe the developers insist upon having no intention of sexualizing the character. But game developers create games that play on people's heuristics. Quiet's outfit looks like the outfits of other sexy characters, and it looks almost like underwear. The connection has been ingrained into people's minds that underwear= lingerie= burlesque/bedroom= sexy. The developers would have to work really hard to get beyond that heuristic. Also, developers generally should be able to design a character whose personality you can know at a glance of the character's design. From her name and appearance, I get... What, like a meek and mild post apocalyptic cutie who probably is really good at fighting and shit until her dumbass handkerchief bra comes undone and she loses her balance in the midst of fighting some enemy (some depraved guy who makes some remark about making her his sex slave without actually saying it) and then stays trapped there until another guy (the chosen one) she just met last week and trained (who is already better than her after one week of training from the ground up) saves her and then she follows behind him as a sidekick for the rest of her existence.
If she's such a great character, then I guess she needs a better design. Or perhaps I could be less cynical. Yet after one sexualized, scantily clad character after another, I'm really tired.
In conclusion, if we didn't need the rain scene, we didn't need the rain scene. If we didn't need the handkerchief bra, then we didn't need the handkerchief bra. Unless you go out of your way to alter the way people have been conditioned to see women in only underwear, but I doubt that Nintendo cares. I could be wrong, though. Anyone else?

What’s the difference here?
