Also it’s been raining for like almost a month straight here & today the head chef came in and said “how’s everyone feeling today, because this weather is personally making me feel really depressed, so let’s do something about that. Depression breakfast?” And proceeded to make everyone eggs & hash & thick slices of whole wheat topped w/goat cheese, olive oil, & herbs. And I was busy w/mixing but multiple coworkers made a point to come over & remind me to grab a plate. Like wow it’s just so life affirming working at a place where there is genuine care and support in the air and people check in on each other

some things i’ve learned about adulthood that no one warns you about
you will in fact continue to have acne past the age of twenty
you will eventually hit a point where you start to feel icky inside if you go too long without eating some sort of vegetables
depending on your current level of athleticism/physical activity as well as the kind of activities you did as a kid/teenager, your joints may start acting whack in your twenties, despite what everyone says about that not happening until middle age
eventually you will reach a point where you wonder how you were able to stay up until 3am nearly every night and be perfectly fine the next day (and this moment will come much younger than you expect)
it is much harder to meet new people after you’re done with school than sitcoms would have you believe
don’t let society tell you shit: it is perfectly acceptable to live with your parents after you graduate, there’s no need to be broke and miserable just so you can have some misguided attempt at independence straight out of school

all of your feelings are valid as in “worth acknowledgment and internal consideration” but some of your feelings are also stupid and mean, and you need to deal with that shit without making it anyone else’s problem

things to study once classes end
for those who want to keep up a habit or just enjoy learning
a new language
a style of literature less commonly studies (e.g. fantasy, science fiction - I took a sci-fi course this semester and it was so fun)
practice an instrument or learn some music theory
take some skillshare courses!
start / join a book club. this isn't really studying but imo most English courses are just really expensive book clubs
learn to read tarot / study other spirituality. I want to get better at astrology
study your local history! your library probably has a bunch of stuff on it
pick up a new hobby or craft and learn the history of it
study the plants in your local forest, aim to create a mini foraging guide
design a heavy programming project for yourself, challenge yourself to learn how to do it before the fall term starts
teach yourself some psychology! there's a LOT about it out there
do a bible study if that's something that suits you
the 1980s UK punk scene. I just took a course on this it's great
really any pop culture era
the Salem witch trials. there's a lot to learn there
if you're up to it, learn the history of some local indigenous / aboriginal groups if you happen to be on colonized land. learn what you can do as an ally (I actually have a reading list for those of you getting in to indigenous American allyship, and you can always reach out to me for a starting point)
literally take out a textbook from a library or get a used textbook off a friend and read through it, annotate it if you can, study the material. It's fun to learn without deadlines looming.
work on your handwriting

the lights are off and your heart is heavy, but my love, remember this- you have so much to stay for. it is not nearly your time yet, and there will be sunrises and sunsets, and dewy grass fields. there will be sticky summers like the ones of your childhood, and solace to be found within the pages of a book. there are people to be loved and you? you're one of them. it's not nearly your time yet so- stay.
