Gale had a knack of confusing her words sometimes but this– this! How can she not like that endearing nickname? She saves him the trouble and flicks him right on the nose for being such a dummy, “Honestly, Gale. Where did you even pick that up? I love it when you call me little bird. Don’t stop, geez.” She ‘tsk’s and shakes her head, wondering why someone as smart as Gale can be so clueless sometimes. It was funny. Cute, even. But once upon a time, he never voiced out these kind of things. What if he suddenly started doing things– or stopped– just because of assumptions like that? It… saddened her a bit, but he was being honest with her more now and that brought some form of relief. It was strange, though. Before, his honesty summoned discomfort and regret on her side. It was as if those honest, sweet thoughts and words he had for her was a sin she shouldn’t even hold, no matter how she dismissed it. Now…
The brief silence she got as an answer made her wonder if he forgot their little agreement. She didn’t mind being forward when the situation called for it, but she hoped– she dearly hoped– he didn’t forget that certain promise they made when she was sick. There was a reason she was incredibly excited and came over here as soon as she can, after all. Needless to say, she looked forward to knowing where this leap of faith will take them. She continued to fold her arms, feeling anxious as he decided to be mute for a while. Said anxiety only increased when he suddenly appears in front of her. “..!”
So that’s how it felt, she admits to herself embarrassingly as she was forced to lean back to the couch, his flustered look incredibly infectious. “Gale?” Came her simple reply, blinking once before sinking deep into his heterochromatic hues. Now was not the time to think about this, but he was– is – handsome. Cute as he turns red so quickly, but then again, she can’t exactly tease or judge him on that department. She held her breath as he continued with his question, sinking further as he effortlessly made her awkward despite the one initiation things.
“Yes?“ Ah, she sounded so unsure. And that was the opposite of what she currently felt. So with a stronger resolve, she swallowed down the unnecessary dash of comfort between them and nods. “I mean, yeah… we talked about it before, didn’t we? The past few days– hmm, weeks?– have been a little overwhelming for me and you, and Lest… I just– I feel better now. I am better now.” She starts loosening up, even under his watch, lips curving into an honest, grateful smile. “A promise is a promise, Gale. Whenever you’re ready, let’s go out on a date ♡ “
I love it when you call me little bird. Her words rang repeatedly inside his head, successfully shutting him up, avoiding further false speculations. Ah, she did not mind after all. Although he is guilty of thinking highly of her, he has long since gotten over the worship-fit-for-a-goddess treatment. She will always be more special to him, far more than any deity in fact, but he realized he’d rather cherish her up close and not from a spectator or a fanatic’s point of view.
Thoughts like that paired with her confirmation of their promise from some time ago, Gale heated up further, a foolish, lopsided grin forming as he repeatedly changes from embarrassed, to happy, to excited and back to embarrassed. His heart was racing, but time too was of the essence right now. Now was not the time to dwell in being alien when it comes to acting out on his feelings, now was the time to act. Placing a chaste kiss on her forehead, he hugged her loosely, tone undeniably overjoyed. “Thank you. Thank you, thank you..! I... I’m glad to know you’re alright now and for you to... that is... thank you, I won’t ruin your day..!”

For someone supposedly good with words, he was currently suffering from the lack of it right now. Thankfully, he was equipped with more will to act and that would hopefully suffice for his poor expression of his glee at the moment. Pulling back, he retrieves the coffee cup once again, finishing its content in a single drink. Then, he stands up and promptly informs her of his leave, “If it’s alright with you, can we do it today--” It was already late... “-- tonight? I... don’t wish to waste the food you brought and perhaps we can go somewhere? You and I? I’ll be right back, to prepare-- I promise not to take too long.”
A promise here, a promise there , oh, he was certainly loving that word right now. But even as he fumbled with his words, he was set on a specific goal today: make the most out of today and make her happy. He has zero experience with dating, but he has some experience in making her happy? Perhaps, in this foreign world of dating and love, that could be enough? He retreats to his room first, taking a towel and a change of clothes before heading to his bathroom.

As he quickens his pace while preparing, Gale couldn’t help but repeat a certain mantra for today: don’t fuck this up.

It was just a simple joke; something to make him wake up or react because normally, he was incredibly easy to tease. Normally, he’d be the one rendered blushing and speechless. Yet her own words backfired at her, and suddenly her little joke was turned into something sweet. When did Gale became so sneaky? “Ah– sorry?” She says a little too stupidly, failing to form a proper retort. Damn you Gale for taking jokes seriously! She really shouldn’t get too worked up; it wasn’t like he blatantly admitted he’d be saddened by her disappearance!!
Her composure returns when he starts talking about his dreams. While he seemed like he was dismissing at first, she was relieved to know he was actually going to tell her more. “Your nightmare was about me?” This was a point of concern for her– as one who suffered with nightmares, she’d hate to be the cause of one. He says it wasn’t too concerning, but a nightmare was a nightmare. She kept a straight face on as she listened further, lower lip bitten as she felt rather anxious to know why she was being troublesome, even in dreams.
I couldn’t reach you. Not even if I run, or walk, or do anything else; you were simply too far ahead and out of reach.
It was a vague description of a dream, but it was enough to make her shift in her seat and frown. There he goes again, placing her in some imaginary pedestal. She’d…rather be a girl on the ground than be some figure high up in the sky. Especially since she never thought of herself highly enough to be way beyond others! “You know… sometimes you really make me sound like such a snob. What’s with this nonsense about being too out of reach?” If it wasn’t for his gaze, the way he looks at her with his mismatched eyes that seemed icy at first glance before it slowly warmed up to you… she would shut him down right there and then. Annoying… loud… now that was more like. It wasn’t the best words to say to a girl you supposedly love but it felt more like herself, not some unreachable creature flying on a sky of her own. If she truly wanted to fly high up in the skies, it would be with the people she loves and cherishes, not a lonesome flight. “I mean, that was just a dream– a bad one? It bears no truth. I’m not someone fit for a pedestal and… you know that, right?”
She folds her arms and leans sideways, aiming for the shoulders she’s figuratively and physically relied on for countless days and nights. The feeling she had felt before on the day he visited to care for her never left, and every now and then, more often that not, she’d think and wonder about them. Where they are currently– where they could go? There was a scary possibility that she wasn’t sure she was ready to explore yet, but she never dismissed it fully. After all, maybe a chance was all they needed?
“Excuse me for being loud and annoying then…” She mutters with a small pout, a loud ‘hmp’ following it as she further leans on him, head lowered to avoid eye contact. Even if his relief of sorts that she was here now was something that she liked, he doesn’t need to know that, now does he? “…and here I was, feeling kind enough to get you something to eat and drink. Maybe ask you to go somewhere nice and fun if you’re not too busy… I guess not, hmm?” Hint, hint. Take a hint.
“...I assure you, little bird. If I could choose my dreams, it would be an extension of truths.” Numerous memories comes into mind; happy ones they shared through years of companionship he fails to compare to anyone else. “But, yes, I’m aware it was just a dream. I’ve long since learned you’re not exactly...” A small pause, words clashing as he finds one fit for use. “...the type to be restrained by ideologies. A pedestal is too shallow, so is a label-- ah, but I do like calling you little bird...”

Great. Now he was confused. All this time he’s been placing that mental image of a free bird right alongside her-- did she not like it after all? He’d stop gladly if it causes her discomfort, disheartening as it was considering... he really did love calling her by that nickname. It was his, his alone and he loved it. He looked at her apologetically, somewhat embarrassed to have only realized this now, but he asks anyway, “I apologize for my dream and my insensitive insistence of calling you by that nickname-- I can stop... if its not okay with you?”
As she pouts and turns away, some form of annoyance in her tone, Gale was left wondering if this was just her teasing again or she was honestly upset. He hated not looking at her directly in the eyes-- it seemed impossible to know! Her act and words she can twists, yes, but she was never dishonest when it came to the pair of beautiful green eyes he will never grow tire of. They would dim down and appear empty when she’s troubled or sad. Lighten up in an instant if it was the opposite. And rarely, those said eyes would soften up and mean something he can’t quite explain, but he was glad it was directed at him. He wondered if those same eyes were present now as she spoke of something familiar, a promise spoken between them some time ago. A promise that sent his foolish heart racing.

"...?” She was being unfair right now, turning away from him. He had an incredible advantage when it came to knowing about one’s honest thoughts and feelings yet he can’t use it on her and he never will. The only way he had to find out certain things was if she simply looks at him as they spoke yet there she was, using her height as an advantage as she continues acting like a grump. “Frey...” His voice was low and shy, but his actions were not. He shifts and turns enough, head peeking down to meet her in the eye. While his face was quickly flustering up, he wasn’t exactly very mindful of that. All he needed to know was one thing and one thing only. “...when it comes to you, I become an incredibly idiotic man... so... indulge my idiocy for a moment...” Don’t turn back now. “...does this mean I can take you out? On a date? Me and you?”

Her excitement didn’t die down even as she waited for him to stir awake; she hasn’t exactly been present and having woke up full of undeniable cheer today did not erase the fact she was having particularly distant days before. It was fine, though. They were fine. While they did not spend every waking hour in contact with each other, Frey has always had this assurance Gale and her’s relationship would not be damaged by both time or distance. Not that it has been a particularly lengthy kind of distance; they were neighbors! And co-workers. Still, to be able to visit out of leisure and hang out was vastly different than simply seeing each other at the Circus.
When he woke up all confused and surprised, Frey wanted to punish him some by taking it to heart– he didn’t look too delighted to see her, but Frey knew better. For as long as he knew Gale, he just wasn’t big on surprises, especially if he just woke up. Choosing instead to laugh it off, Frey shook her head, waving a hand around before propping herself up to sit with him on the couch, “It’s fine, it’s fine! I guess I’ll just stop visiting, then…” She trailed off as she picked up the basket she brought along, removing a thermos she filled with coffee that he liked. “…kidding! Bad dream, hm?”
She couldn’t help but linger on his first question, however: why was she here, indeed. First things first, though: his dream. Taking out the top lid, Frey poured some coffee on the cup slash lid, blowing it over once before handing it to Gale, head tilted to the side as she pressed on about this dream of his, “Why I’m here can wait. Mind telling me your dream first? I have a lot of experience with bad dreams, you know~” Definitely not something she should be proud of, but it was something they shared. Maybe not always, but every now and then she’d mention a dream, or rather, a nightmare to him in hopes of shedding some sort of light to it. He was wise, after all. A man of stories, of old tales, and perhaps, of explanations. This time around, maybe she can ease his mind?
The normally reclusive stargazer was caught in Frey Valor’s web of cheer and surprises; and while he should be used to this by now, it just simply wasn’t possible. Especially since it had been quite some time since said person was cheerful or in the mood for little surprises such as this. Even as she teases him, he couldn’t help but take it seriously, given his most recent dream. His lips formed a straight line, eyes closing at the displeasure of the thought. “...that’s not a very good joke, little bird. Your visits will always make me happy, you know that.”
As his nostrils was filled with the scent of his favorite poison, Gale flutters an eye open, curiously spotting a thermos that he assumes was filled with coffee. Paired with the basket he concludes she had brought along some food for him. Her good mood must be particularly good today; Gale could only hope it will not end in a blink of an eye. He nods along to confirm that it was indeed a bad dream, gladly taking the cup of coffee from her. In all honesty, he’d rather drink it directly from the thermos, but one must not be too greedy.

"It’s nothing too concerning; but it was about you.” He says simply, taking the cup closer to his lips, finding simple joy at the fact this was prepared for him by Frey. He takes a few more moments before continuing to speak so he can drink and enjoy the coffee-- knowing Frey, she would not like waiting, however, so he brings the cup down after a lengthy sip.
"But if you must know, it’s about something simple, yet alarming. For me, at least.” For me. Just me. While he knows his importance now towards the acrobat he cherishes, the wind of change was so alarming at times, he does not wish to assume too much. That, and he fully can’t register the thought yet; him, having a chance. Their embrace weeks ago still lingered very clearly in his mind, a happy memory he’ll take with him forever. “I couldn’t reach you. Not even if I run, or walk, or do anything else; you were simply too far ahead and out of reach.”

His gaze falls to the girl-- no, woman-- that listened to his tale, mismatched eyes wondering what she thought of his pathetic dreams. Her timing was perfect, if he truly ponders about it. To dream about not reaching her, and yet the moment he wakes to reality, there she was. Fate wasn’t so bad sometimes. “And I woke up with an annoying girl loudly greeting me in the morning. I think that dream ended fairly well.”

When her mood brightens, one of the first few things she does is inform a certain someone. They happened to have a certain deal once this faithful day finally comes, and she’d be lying if she says she hasn’t thought about it a few times ever since it was made. It became an awkward declaration, they agreed to go somewhere nice and fun. A date. An actual I-want-to-see-you-differently kind of date. In the past she would never have considered this, never would have dared cross that line. Yet the heart was so… strange. Even now she can’t exactly explain why, but she feels different. He seems different. But when they do stumble upon each other, they continue to do the same things, and are still very much themselves. The heart really was so strange and unpredictable… Frey didn’t complain, however, and allowed it to do as it pleases.
And as she made her way to her neighbours home not so far from their farm, a small basket full of food in hand, Frey felt slightly embarrassed yet incredibly excited. She should have texted him, or called. But no, here she was, knocking thrice on his door before breaking and entering with the spare key he entrusted her, fully aware he would be sleeping at this time of the day. The weekends are for sleeping, he told her before since they worked during the week. And truly enough, he was there on his couch, sleeping.
Oh, you. She quietly chuckled as she wondered what he could have done last night if he was too tired to even reach his bedroom. Hopefully he didn’t venture too far out into the forest to tire himself out for today– he needed to do his end of the promise! Sleeping on the couch, geez… Then again, he was weird and liked the couch more. Fortunately, this was an advantage for Frey. If he was in his bedroom, she would have hesitated coming closer. She was still a woman after all, even with their level of comfort. But, this was a safe zone. Ehe he.
Placing the basket on the table alongside the couch, she crouches down beside him and sweeps away some of the hair on his face, a small smile appearing. It was past noon yet here he was, still asleep. She’d give him a lecture but she wasn’t exactly the perfect example of a person with good habits. Instead of loudly waking him up, she shakes his shoulders lightly until he stirs awake.
“Gale, Gale, Gale.” She repeatedly says his name, a hint of excitement, an obvious good mood surrounding her. When he does open his eyes, her smile softens and she greets him, “Good morning.”
A bright blinding light and a surrounding that was pitch black filled his dreams as he ventures into the unknown. In his dreams, there were only two aspects: himself, and the end of a tunnel. He was watching himself from the end of this tunnel, but he can’t ever turn around to see what was behind him. What he sees instead is himself running, walking, pausing... all these three things he does in his attempt to reach the end of the tunnel. There was laughter there, most certainly. Right behind him, he can hear the voice of his beloved, calling out, laughing. She was happy.
Gale was aware this was a dream; he didn’t have them often so when he does, he knows. A dream conjured by his head to mess with him, to make him feel less. Not for the first time in his life, it didn’t work. For even if his dream self failed to make progress as he ran, Gale knew better. He cannot rely on dreams, or stars or fate, there was only faith in his own actions. And should he end up in this path, it was only because of one of two things: he did not try enough, or she cannot find it in her to love or even like him as something more. The latter was alright, he thinks. As long as he did his part, he will be able to live his days without regret.
His dream fades as he hears a voice-- the same one from the dream but much stronger. It was as if she was saying it right in front of hi--

“!!!!” Gale moves his head back in shock as he awakes to Frey directly in front of him. While it was a delightful surprise first thing in the morning, he was just waking from a dream that depicted an unfortunate turn of events. To see her here, now, it was a relief all in itself. But that thought alone summoned the question, “Why are you here?”
It seemed rude to be the first thing to say, but it was a question he said with no harm meant. He runs his hand through his bed hair and attempts to sit up, spotting a basket on the table near the couch. Ah, yes, he fell asleep on the couch. He expected to be woken up and lectured, instead, she greeted him so sweetly. And what did he do? Question her. Wonderful, Gale. “I’m sorry, I was just surprised and I wasn’t exactly having the happiest kind of dreams...” He says in an attempt for a take two of the greeting, his palm meeting his face for a few seconds before meeting her eye to eye, each color from his own pairing with her green ones. “...good morning, little bird. I didn’t expect to see you this ea--” One glance at the wall clock he had was enough to tell him it wasn’t morning anymore. He bit back his tongue and timidly looks back, face falling. “--nevermind. Good morning.”

“…you can be really sappy once you start talking, huh?” Not that she never heard him be sweet or anything like that. A few months ago, he even confessed with words she’s never heard from anyone before. Words she feels she doesn’t deserve. She chooses not to dwell on that memory, however, and focuses on the fact that she somehow made someone happy despite being in such a low state. A burden… she feared she would be one, especially when placed in a position where others worried and took care of her. She softly smiles, glad that despite the events of today and the woes of her heart, she felt lighter.
Slowly, she closes her eyes and finally feels the need to rest. She was calmer now, calm enough to allow herself to fall asleep. One of these days, she’ll stop herself from being too stupid to fall too far down again. Maybe even ask for herself before she became confused of what was really upsetting her. Maybe, she’ll finally listen to her own words and stop being such a big hypocrite.
Today might not be that day, but it was a big step that sent her closer to it.
As sleep finally arrives, she manages to mouth a simple, “Thank you.”
That was something... he can’t really deny. Perhaps it was because of the old soul in him or the fact that he has ever really known of one kind of love and it was all for her. He respected the Harvest Goddess. He found comfort in the presence of fellow beings cursed by longevity. But he has only ever loved her and if being ‘sappy’ was a result of it, he found himself not minding.
Only with you, little bird. Only with you.
He feels relieved that she finally decided to rest, unsure if she truly was sleeping at first or if she’s only gone silent. The words she mouthed seconds before she completely turned quiet didn’t go unnoticed and he caught himself smiling. He was glad he found the will to visit today. If not... he would have missed this opportunity to grow closer to her.

Dismissing himself from the simple comfort of staying close, he takes away the dirty dishes and returns to the kitchen to wash them. There was still some soup in the pot, but it can easily be reheated later if ever she felt hungry. Before returning to the living room where she chose to sleep, he takes an empty glass and a jug of water, placing them on the table for her to drink later on. While he doesn’t approve of her choice to rest on a coach, she lifts her up anyway so she can lie down properly, resting her head on a couch pillow. He could... take some more pillows and maybe a comforter from her bedroom, but he doesn’t wish to intrude and barge in without permission. So instead, he removes his purple jacket, draping it over her.
“Rest well.” Dream of good things.
With that small wish for her in mind, he decides to take his leave for now and let her rest. He’ll respect her wishes and not intrude for the week, but should she ever need him, he was... well... he was technically her neighbor and was just a short walk away. As he leaves her home, he couldn't help but look forward to their supposed date. He wasn’t sure when she’d actually feel better, but he was going to wait for as long as it takes. After all, she was worth it.

Always.
Frey notices how he frequently uses that word. He’ll always be beside her, he says. He’ll always be there when she needs him. Always. Always. Always.
It was a big word that held a lot of expectations, but even with his broken sentences and slow words, she knows she can trust him. She looks back at him with curiousity, failing to ignore their matching flustered faces. They look like dorks. Two awkward dorks.
She could easily shrug this off and say it was because of the heat from the bath and soup that made her look so flustered, but she chose not to make excuses this time. Instead, she thinks about his question. A date. Definitely not a friendly date if she was worked up about it this much.
What they had was a bond built on trust and she was still sure that she’d rather not sacrifice what they had for sometime that might easily break.
But… this was Gale. If they could be broken by something, it should have tore them apart ages ago back when she repeatedly rejected him. While her heart still clung to previous emotions, a small bud seemed to bloom somewhere amidst all the wreck in her heart. She can’t say with certainty that she liked him, let alone love him. Then again, she can’t deny the small change in how she felt.
She chose not to fight it.
“…yes? Is that weird?” Awkward? Too soon? She feels as though they were simply tossing questions at each other, testing the waters before they dove in to whatever lies ahead. At least… at least in all this confusion, she doesn’t feel like the only one who was having a hard time processing everything.
Sometimes, it was better not to ask. He knows that by asking, he was making his previous intentions and feelings be more... known. And that wasn’t a bad thing, he thinks. As it seems she was more open to it? Less willing to reject it? Although he feels it was mostly because her heart was recovering, Gale moves forward, threading carefully yet not wishing to waste a chance when it presents itself. He was still more than willing to wait. Be it weeks, months, years or decades. Last time, he relied on what his assumptions and blindly moved forward. This time around, he wanted to be clear with not just his intentions, but hers, too. This could all be in his head and--
Ah. She said yes.

“...no. No, most definitely not. I’m... making this weird for you, aren’t I? I’m sorry... I’m just...” Words seemed to escape him. There were a million other things that could perfectly describe how this surreal moment seemed to him. Just moments ago he was comforting her for what he assumed to be a broken heart. As it turns out, her concern was more for her relation with her brother, if anything. Then came the affection... and... this. This wonderful hopeful joy, all because he could actually spend time with her that goes beyond what they’ve established they will ever be. It could be a flop. He could end up proving that they truly were better off as just friends. However, he couldn’t find himself caring at that particular woe. As he looks at her now, all he knows is he was:
“...incredibly happy.”

Gale was a weirdo.
A weirdo that just had to look at her with the most intense flustered look she’s ever witnessed. She wanted to laugh it off and tease him for looking so adorably flustered, but he looked so embarrassed and happy about such a simple thing that she found herself feeling embarrassed, too.
If you make it awkward, it’s going to be awkward! Dummy!
She ends up simply staring back at him, a trail of sweat dropping as she feels incredibly warm and shy all of a sudden. There was a perfect joke in this situation that she could easily say– maybe even just laugh all of a sudden? But as he turns away and hides his face, Frey felt the chance to save themselves from this awkward moment was already lost.
It wasn’t like it was the first time they’d actually go somewhere together, right? They’ve went to the observatory together. They’ve spent nights just looking at the stars together. They worked together. They ate together.
Outside of that?
Erm. Well…?
Maybe this really was a different kind of thing, and as her cheeks flushed red, almost matching his, Frey falls to the side, letting her head rest on the couch as she looked back at Gale. “Well? What do you say?” She asks without a hint of embarrassment, yet her face says otherwise. He nodded earlier, but she wasn’t very sure as to see him get all awkward and embarrassed was a huge distraction. “Is that a yes, or–?”
As if it wasn’t bad enough that he was feeling incredibly awkward, so it seemed he had infected her as well. Noticing how she turned silent and embarrassed, Gale simply buried his face deeper into his palm, not wanting to expose his already pathetic state.

If she ever thought that there was a chance he’d say no, perhaps she was having misconceptions of him all along? Wasn’t it him who was here now, insisting to take care of her? Wasn’t it him who, despite his inability to do so, attempted to sing just so she wouldn’t be sad? Wasn’t it him who promised to always be there for her, to stay for as long as she wanted to?
Guh... perhaps he wasn’t clear enough?

He clears his throat, fearing no sound would come out should he open his mouth and attempt to speak now. It was quite silly, feeling too flustered about such a possible trivial thing for any other person. But can you blame him? A man who has long since accepted his place and had come into terms with his unrequited love... and yet here he was again, being fed with what he wish wasn’t false hope. Perhaps it was all just in his head. If it was-- damn him for getting too ahead of himself. If he wasn’t... well...
“The answer will always be yes. I... I won’t disappoint you.” Hopefully. Maybe... Perhaps taking some time away from her as she recovers on her own was a good thing after all? Apart from needing time to think and prepare for what he can only assume was a friendly date, he honestly... needed time to digest the surplus of emotions he was having. It wasn’t everyday he was this ecstatic.
He allows his weight to fall sideways on the couch, head resting on it as well. This felt incredibly childish, but as long as he was looking at her, he could somehow summon courage to be a little braver, a little bolder. Awkward and new he was to... all of this... he wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. “Just so we’re clear...” Ah... Should I... even.. .ask...? “It’s... a date...that you’re asking?”

freytell:
He got her there. Gale never had a perfect attendance for even a week in the circus. Even on good days, she can vaguely remember him skipping just so he can retreat to the forest or was too tired from a night of stargazing. That was where they were different– Frey liked and often prioritized work. Him? Work was just a necessity. His true passion lies in the night sky.
As he fed her, Frey spoke in between bites, the warm soup doing wonders to her hungry stomach. “I have to give myself a deadline, otherwise, I’m going to sulk forever, you know?” She understood where he was coming from, though. If a friend of hers was in her shoes, she would want the best for them. The sooner they rid themselves of what made them sad, the better. Of course, things took time, for some, longer than what she had given herself. But just because she wanted to be able to work as soon as possible didn’t meant she was ready to let go of everything just yet. She just wanted to function again. “Plus, its just about work. No worries, I still have a whooooole lot of heartache that needs a bit of curing. Make sure you’re prepared, doc!”
She hits him on the arm with her elbow as she jested and laughed lightly; she half-meant it when she said she’ll be relying on him to help her recover. His presence, while she couldn’t exactly explain why, calmed her trouble heart. If she could just kidnap and hug him for as long as it takes to make herself better again, she would. Even with his question, it was tempting to say yes– but as her laughter dies, she politely shakes her head. “No, I don’t want you to. You’re going to baby me too much and I don’t think I want to be too dependent on anyone… I mean, you did say I’m a bird, right? Birds learn how to fly on their own, and since I forgot, I just need to learn it all again!”
Instead of waiting for him to feed her again, she gives him a small smirk before taking the bowl downing the remainder of the soup down in one sitting. It felt incredibly warm as it ran through her throat, but by now, the heat was tolerable and comforting. She can already feel herself being full as the warmth reach her tummy.
“But I’ll tell you what–” She leans back and hands him the empty bowl. “–if I go against my word and still skip work next week, feel free to visit and give me a lecture! Goddess knows I’ll be needing one. Plus, I’m really liking this soup. And besides–”
Frey timidly mimics the same gesture he usually does and pokes him on the forehead, a small smile gracing her lips. “–I want to hang out with you even if you’re not taking care of me because i’m sick or whatever. As soon as i’m better, take me somewhere nice and fun, okay?”
...why was she laughing? Gale wanted to directly ask if she was losing it or if she really found it funny that she was hurt... perhaps she was a masochist? Ack, he’d rather not think about her that way and instead focused on the good. Was she serious when she said she’d be relying on him to ‘cure’ her? Whatever she had meant, whether it meant he had to make a thousand more chicken soup, he’ll do--
Wait...she said no?
He had to admit, while he understands what she means by not wanting to rely too much on someone, he still felt disheartened when she said no to his offer to visit and care for her. How can he be a ‘doctor’ to her if he wasn’t there in her most vulnerable time? Still, he doesn’t want to force himself and his help on her, so he nods along. Hopefully, his tone didn’t sound too disappointed. “I understand. If... if you think that’s best.”

He was too distracted by her rejection that he failed to react at once when she took the bowl so suddenly and smiled so... mischievously. It took him a while to process what she was going to do, but as soon as she lifted the bowl up, it suddenly dawned on him. “D-don’t eat it like that, you’ll--” Ah, too late. She was already downing it all down as if it was just water. He prepared the glass of water instead she starts choking but thankfully by the end of her little stunt, she looked and seemed fine. Content, even.
This girl will be the death of me.
Gale looks at her disapprovingly, but fails to keep the act up as she seems to be in a better mood. Ah, whatever. If it works, why would he complain? At least he was given permission to check up on her should she fail to meet her deadline. Perhaps partake in helping her be ‘cured’?
Poke.
He was poked.
Her light touch to his forehead sent waves of nostalgia as he was the one who usually did that to her when he... unknown to her, maybe, it was only when he felt...err... extra affectionate. When he’d be overwhelmed by his growing affection for her to the point he’d wish he was brave enough to actually sweep her off her feet and kiss her. Instead, he pokes her. And now, she did the same, summoning all shades of red on his face.
Nice and fun.
Where in the world was nice and fun?
For Gale, it was simple: anywhere with her did just the trick. But what about her? Surely, it wasn’t that simple. Her soft poke on his forehead lingered and he couldn’t find it in him to reply coherently. Instead, he nods and silently promises that he would do just that. This was a little too hard on him, not at all used to making plans like these. Somehow, it felt different. A good kind of different.

Gale could only let himself drown as he fully flusters up-- which he tries to hide by turning away, a hand stretched out across his face to cover it. Just earlier he was holding her so close, and now it was as if they were planning an actual d..d...date?
???
?????
Goddess, help me.
