finally got around to reading the elder’s quest. here are a few of my thoughts as i read through the book. and as always spoilers below the cut :)
- leafstar losing her sight is an interesting concept. i wonder how this is going to play out over the next couple books especially since she’s leader.
- the voice thing is so cool.
- moonpaw seeing the reflection of “the voice” in the lake is kinda freaky.
- birchfeather revealing that he wants to move to skyclan and that tawnypelt helped him realize is SO funny.
- tawnypelt saying crowfeather’s going to make a good leader one day…crowstar?!?!? i mean i’m not opposed to it
- tawnypelt cannot be falling for crowfeather…like come on now can we be serious 🤨
- oil spill??
- the voice is scary i don’t like it.
- if crowfeather and tawnypelt actually become a thing, i’ll get so angry. like first of all i’m a big leafxcrow fan (sorry and speaking of which i miss leafpool :( ). second, he’s just not all that.
- “Hasn’t Crowfeather already had his share of doomed romances with cats from other Clans?” yes. he has. i really hope this is unreciprocated.
- i do not like this orange cat.
- i am enjoying tawnypelt and birchfeather’s relationship. it is very cute.
- leafstar stepping down herself is interesting. i like that their exploring this concept of old age and leadership.
- tawnypelt getting that warning from bluestar is just so useless to me. like what’s she supposed to do call an apprentice evil?
- the orange cat is her sister?!?!? where is she and why is she not in starclan? i kind of feel that maybe this is what ivypool’s heart was trying to set up. that the afterlife is much more complex than just starclan and the dark forest. i wonder if tree would be able to see her.
i think there are interesting ideas being explored such as the whole deposing leafstar and moonpaw’s “voice”. the whole moonpaw situation feels very tbc core, and i like the mystery surrounding it. i am not sure i like the twoleg construction plot because i’m not sure how it’s going to play out in a way that is different than tnp. however, i don’t think they’ll pick up and move territories again, so i wonder how they will “fight” against this. not the biggest fan of the tawny x crow plot line, but i will admit it makes me giggle.
overall, i would rate this book 4/5. it was a fun read and i’m excited to see where they take this next.

crowfeather hate is so overdone to me and just a reminder how often complex characters are hated. he's one of the most interesting 'background' characters who remains relevant because he was a hopeless romantic. people make fun of him becoming depressed and suicidal after one of his friends, who he was in love with, died saving him. he's still reckless and quick to fall in love partly because he wants the pain to go away. then another love is ripped away from him due to fate. after that he gets in a relationship with nightcloud when neither of them truly love each other. then 2 of his 3 kits die. would that not feel like another slap in the face from starclan? again he loses 2 out of 3. he's a distant father because he now rejects love, and his and nightcloud's relationship is sour because neither genuinely loved each other. he's left bitter and jaded and it's only when his mother refuses to move on to starclan he tries opening up again, to love for her. he repairs his relationship with his son and nightcloud. despite this people hate him and act like he's annoying and one dimensional.
he has some of the most growth in the series, improved to the point he begs jayfeather, his son that hates him, to help him save breezepelt, who laughed at hollyleaf's death. but he also knows jayfeather has every right to refuse because of his feelings towards both him and breezepelt

Ivypool's Heart spoilers

From Ivypool's Heart ^

From A Light in the Mist ^
Idk if this was intentional, but I think it's sweet either way. Love was the last thing Bristlefrost felt, and love was the last thing Bristlefrost left behind

ivypool’s heart!!
here are some of my thoughts while i read the book. and as always spoilers below the cut :)
- rootspring and ivypool meeting and processing their grief is just too sad. and i’m not even the biggest fan of bristleroot.
- mention of the “blood will spill blood prophecy” i always get surprised when the erins mention things from previous arcs and get it right
- why is this writing kinda really good? i mean for a wc book the way ivypool’s grief is being looked at is kinda complex
- i love fernsong sm
- “i miss every hair on her pelt” crying
- they can draw???
- wait this is so interesting
- i love jayfeather’s sarcasm
- i love how dovewing keeps tigerstar in check
- ivypool and dovewing mothering they’re too cute
- idk how i feel about the sisters hate
- beech and slate are too funny.
- JAKE?!?!
- omg blazing star!! dotc reference!! (i love dotc)
okay so i finished the book and that kinda picked up fast and i forgot about this.
overall rating 3/5. i loved the conversations about grief and seeing each character grapple with that. i liked rootspring and invpool’s relationship, but i wish we got to see more between dovewing and ivypool. the whole wildcat and stormclan thing was meh. i am excited for star though and how this will setup the end of the arc.

finally read riverstar’s home. here are some thought as i read through.
spoilers below the cut
- the name change feels so sudden. i feel like it would’ve been more impactful if we got to see him live near the river for longer before he did.
- this feels silly to say but river ripple seemed so much more nonchalant and wise in dotc.
- OMG it’s gray wing (if you didn’t know by now i LOVE him)
- i am kind of surprised at how closely the dialogue resembles the scenes form dotc. i know that all they have to do is go back and read the book, but knowing the erins’ inconsistencies in the past, they didn’t do too bad. can’t say the same for characterizations however.
- i can’t wait to see river ripple and gray wing’s relationship through a different point of view. i always loved their interactions, especially the support and kindness between them.
- the flutter thing feels so forced i am tried of hearing about it.
- i’m not a fan of how they dumbed down the conflict between clear sky and gray wing as territory and aggression. it was such a nuanced conflict and from river ripple’s pov it makes it look as if the whole thing wasn’t very one sided.
- i kinda love the stepping stone idea especially considering river ripple’s role and relationship with the rest of them
- river ripple comforting gray wing, knowing exactly what to say, and looking after him. i love them.
- river ripple opening his home to gray wing and really noticing how much he has been through is just so touching.
- river ripple hoping gray wing’s sickness goes away is so painful because the way it never does.
- i love river ripple’s intuition and knowing exactly what a cat needs and knowing exactly what to say.
- shattered ice saying the moor reminded him of the mountains was such a nice little touch. especially when thinking about how gray wing never really wanted to leave the mountains and he was one of the only cats to stay on the moor. maybe that’s why.
- i’m getting sick of the flutter mentions.
- i love that river ripple thought what everyone else was thinking about how weird it was that clear sky ended up with star flower when thunder like her. do i think they work well together? yes, but i’m so glad some cat finally said it.
- i can feel gray wing’s death coming. obviously it’s already happened and i already no but it hurts the same every time. i want to see how river ripple reacts and whether gray wing will end up giving him a life later on.
- seeing how the erins justify some of his dialogue that was written almost 10 years ago and characterize it is kind of insane to me. i just wish they would stop linking a lot of things back to flutter. i don’t know why they didn’t just leave him without a love interest.
- gray wing :(
- the moor looked bleaker than ever now that gray wing died :(
- the way everyone is mourning gray wing’s death his influence is insane
- TALLCLAN REFERENCE that’s too funny
- “i missed you” :(
- i feel like all the qualities they were blessing him with he already had lol
- FLUTTER IS DEAD WHAT
- i hate how the erins kind of go back on any character development clear sky ever has. they did this in moth flight’s vision too, but i think there him reverting back was reasonable considering he had lost his kit and loss made him the way he was in the first place. but just portraying him as mean for no reason over and over again just pick a struggle.
- i hate how after gray wing died the boundary obsession started back up again. maybe it’s not correlated and yes it’s not that extreme but where’s the friendliness they were just starting to develop.
- i love dappled pelt.
- the whole mediation thing makes so much more sense here than in asc.
- i was so surprised the erins were going to have riverstar leave finch but of course they didn’t follow through
- this romance is so forced
- again why are they backing up on any character development clear sky had?
- i love dotc but i hate post dotc content because these cats lived together up till a little while ago and they’ve suddenly fallen back into aggression as if they weren’t more friendly before
overall rating: 2.5/5
i liked the first half, but they really took river ripple and destroyed his character along with some of the other characters from dotc.
