Just finished re-reading The Hidden Oracle and here are some of my favourite moments!

I forgot quite a bunch of stuff from this book so ofc I had to rr and one of the things I'd forgotten was how damn funny it is.

Like especially the mommy cows and there is something wrong with your midsection one

I had to take a break to properly appreciate those jokes. And then there were moments that were very deep. Also Apollo's character development is so good I wanna cry like wdym he was completely ready to sacrifice himself for his children that he hasn't even known for a week😭😭😭

Reyna getting mad at Apollo for the whole thing with Koronis was funny but what else would've been funny to bring up in TOA was the fact he was fully willing to throw baby Hermes into tartarus

Like deadass he gets his cows back and this is verbatim what he says in Percy's greek gods:

"It's tartarus time" Apollo snarled, "I'll throw you so far into the abyss—"

like, he was gonna do it, he just got distracted by the lyre

Trials of Apollo is a good book series because it asks the question "what if the god of truth had to unpack roughly 4000 years of lying to himself. Would that be fucked up or what" and also a bunch of other stuff like Apollo getting infected with a zombie virus and deliriously scream singing the lyrics to Sweet Caroline in a duet with an arrow that talks in Shakespearean English which only he can hear

Ranking demigods objectively based on power and skill level is near impossible because Rick rarely allows anyone to stand on equal ground with Percy, but I believe in my heart of hearts that Meg makes the top five - if not higher.

She has almost seven or eight years worth of experience with duel swordsmanship, is capable of summoning karpoi instinctively, has a near perfect control over all plant life to the point of achieving teleportation (granted, she risks exhaustion through overexertion but she doesn’t seem to almost die like Nico does - bless him), has the Meliai at her disposal spanning majority of the state of California, and she’s only 12?? That’s insane??

Meg is literally a badass, why are we only focused on the Seven let alone children of the Big Three?

I don’t really enjoy pitting characters against each other because it’s kind of pointless when these characters aren’t able to be used to their fullest potential narratively and more so done to put your blorbo on a pedestal (not judging, it’s admittedly fun on occasion but I don’t think it’s entirely constructive), but I dunno.

Meg is woefully underrated imo

I want you all to know that the only figure in Greek Mythology that I am a 100% apologist for is Cycnus. Cycnus is my baby boy he did not deserve what happened to him. His ass was right all along. I hate Phylius, all my homies hate Phylius, I'm cursing Phylius' bloodline. If I was Cycnus and some guy was obsessed with hunting with me and I kept telling him to go away and he didn't, so I gave him three impossible tasks, and then he completed them increasingly disturbing ways, I would also be a bit pissy about the whole situation. Cycnus is a lesson in why restraining orders are good and we should be allowed to make them.
