great concepts in star of the universe

okay there are so many beautiful concepts in star of the universe I just want to bring to light, so here goes! feel free to add to this list (i probably will because I have so many thoughts about this beautiful drama–it’s actually taken me weeks to write this, haha):

During their date at the beach, Woojoo tells Byul that after his mother died, he never went to the beach with his father again. In the last episode, after Byul has gone up, Woojoo goes to the beach with his son

the tunnel that they go through, with the paintings of the stars on the walls. It feels kind of like an entrance between two worlds. when byul is at the home side of the tunnel, she lives in a world full of music and a dusty room and her ghost friend, and when she goes to the other side of the tunnel, where the rest of the city is, she has to face the reality of being a reaper. same goes for woojoo, actually, because on the city side he’s this quiet, reserved person, but the first time he crosses the tunnel and goes to byul’s home, he lets himself loose and admits to himself that he isn’t happy with his life at all.

the seven stars on byul’s arm. just. what a cool concept. (for those who haven’t watched yet, byul made seven wishes before she died, and they’re what’s keeping her alive. every time she completes a wish, a star disappears from her arm. when she’s completed all the wishes, she dies.)

okay i know this was meant to be a hilarious scene, but it all connects so well. when byul does woojoo’s makeup, he ends up looking like a grim reaper–which makes total sense because considering the age she was when she died, she most likely would only have learned the makeup of a reaper

the death manager is the father of Koo Se Joo. his son was about to crash his truck and die, but the manager turned the steering wheel at the last moment and it hit byul instead (which was how she died the first time). because of this, the manager feels guilty about byul’s death and makes her a reaper.

a small thing, but when byul takes off her glasses everything seems to be clearer and more out of the box. like even the scenes and what she wears are a bit more colorful (i.e. their trip to dreamworld). it’s like when she was wearing them, everything was kind of in-the-box and “in frame” into the grim reaper kind of thinking. and when she stopped being a grim reaper, the frames were taken off and she felt free again.

Koo Se Joo (the guy whose truck hit Byul the first time she died) brought flowers to her mother at the hospital for the five years of Byul’s death, after her mother had a stroke
