I just got an ugly surprise! I was SA'd by my doctor while being biopsied a few months ago and now apparently have to pay $345 even though I was explicitly told my insurance would cover it completely 😂🔫

I have other expenses I'm stressed about but this is currently the most pressing.

So, I don’t usually do this, but:

I’ll like all your thoughts and prayers for the people of Afghanistan. Today, the Taliban recaptured Kabul, and all the progress, how minimal and expensive it was, of civil rights, woman rights, and others will probably abruptly end. My own uncle is in the country, and as stubborn he is, he refuse to leave, for he desires to help the people there.

Just..please, give your thoughts and prayers to the people of Afghanistan. Especially if you are Russian and American. The country became like that because of the two countries.

the thing about “well-behaved women rarely make history" is that the author, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, didn’t write it about women who would be considered “badly-behaved;“ she wrote it in a book about a midwife, about women who had been largely ignored and erased from history because as a result of their “good behaviour.” So it’s not a “BAD GIRLS DO IT WELL" kind of quote; it’s a reminder to respect and pay attention to the women who go about quietly living their lives.

The worst part about writing fantasy is being keenly aware that you’re writing fantasy, which means that you always have to straddle a thin three-way line between anachronism, cliche, and clunk.

Take money, for example. You can’t just have people in a fictional fantasy world walk around using Euros. You consider something generic, like ‘silver coins,’ but before you know it your world starts sounding like a shitty ren faire.

So you think about the world you’ve built and its needs and its history to come up with some unique and relevant terms. But if your terms are too unique and relevant you wind up writing “yarr, you’ll be ransomed for a hundred Trade League Silver Gyrblonks” and realize your worldbuilding is now getting in the way of basic readability.
