Tbh I started watching 911 after s8 finished, and I watched the first time with Buddie goggles securely strapped. I was introduced to the show by my friend who is a hardcore Buddie shipper, read the fanfics before I ever watched an episode. I saw the edits and the fanart, and I was hooked. Two hot firefighters, suspiciously co-dependent, golden retriever/black cat energy, absolutely my jam.

I was prepared to hate all the other love interests (because the sentiments I heard from the buddie fandom), especially Tommy, and that by the end of s8 I would be fully convinced of Buddie endgame.

And then I actually watched the show...

Lemme just say, the Eddie that fans have created within their own fandom art/fics/edits is a completely different character to the show. I was genuinely surprised by how different Eddie was portrayed. Buck was exactly as I imagined he'd be based on the fics I'd read.

I thought for sure I'd find Shannon and Taylor annoying and nagging based on what I heard, but I actually love them both a lot. I think Shannon deserved a much better life than what she had, and a much better husband too.

And Tommy? God, I expected to despise him, but I ended up becoming a BuckTommy shipper by the end of my first run through the season. I find that a lot of the ways fans depict Eddie in fanon, is actually just how Tommy acts in canon (and vice versa because lord knows Buddie shippers hate Tommy).

Yes Tommy came from problematic origins, but so did half the cast, and I find redemption to be a running theme in the show, so I don't hold that against him. Especially since none of the actually affected characters hold it against him either.

I like Buck, he's a complicated imperfect character, but I like that he always strives to be better. And when he fucks up, he's always determined to make things right...

And that brings me to Eddie. I was so shocked to find the aggression in this character. None of that ever bleeds into fanfiction. The way he cannot handle grief without turning violent, the way he avoids hard conversations, instead opting to just make impulsive decisions without consulting anyone the decision might affect.

Season 8 was the real nail in the coffin for me though. Despite it being the best he's ever looked on the show, I found myself deeply unattracted to this character who was constantly lashing out on Buck who was really only trying to help.

I'm halfway through my second rewatch of the series, and I think I'll probably have more thoughts and opinions. Especially when I get to season 7 and 8, but those are my thoughts for now.

I do still consider myself a multi-shipper, but more in the fanon sense. I like the idea of Buck and Eddie, like I said, two hot firefighters with chemistry, the obvious ship...but in terms of actual canon? Right now, my money is on BuckTommy, and I hope that story continues through to the next season.

My therapist, who specializes in adults with ADHD, recently told me that all of her clients need a three day crashout period after a big life change. Finish the semester? Crashout. Change jobs? Crashout. Go on a really cool, really relaxing vacation? Crashout the moment you get home.

It's true of literally all of her clients. She works with a lot of them to put systems in place so that their crashouts are only three days. This includes the high-powered execs who travel regularly for work. It does not matter how successful or high functioning they are - they have ADHD, and a crashout is just part of the process of living with it.

I'm sharing this with all you ADHD friends out there, just in case you (like me) start shaming yourself if your crashout lasts more than one day. It turns out three days is kind of the best case scenario. Be kind to yourselves!

I like the analysis video on YouTube about my favourite show. Once this girl was talking in depth about 9-1-1 and she said that it was obvious that RG was a model before, because every time he tried to act sad he was more worried about his look than convenieng emotion and I think this is so well said. Look at Hen, Chim, or Buck when they are in pain or sad. They look bad in a realistic way. If I were under a firetruck, caught in a tsunami, or sad about someone's dying, I wouldn't be preoccupied about looking good, I'm grieving or surviving not modelling.
