Where the hell I've been
I was admitted to the local hospital after experiencing intense joint pain in my legs that we thought was a side effect to a clinical trial chemotherapy regime I had been put on.
Well, we were wrong.
They treated the pain but it wasn't going away so they admitted me. The pain was getting to the point where I was using a walker to walk around. They did ct scans and X-rays, they weren't showing anything.
What we found out was they thought I was there for a drug addiction and that I was claiming hysterical paralysis.
So two weeks passed, no diagnosis. Random doctors coming in, not giving me answers. As this was happening, parts of my legs started falling asleep, then went completely numb with no feeling.
There was a physical therapist who thought it was still hysterical paralysis and his way of doing PT was "let's get you walking, if you fall we'll catch you with a wheelchair"
No one seemed to understand that I couldn't move my legs.
Then finally, finally, my actual oncologist came off from a vacation an ordered a lumbar puncture which didn't show anything and finally a MRI showing a tumor on my t9-l1 parts of my spine, crushing my nerves. They gave me an extra strength dose of radiation to control the pain.
Because of a doctors negligence, I'm 23 and permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
Don't you love modern medicine.
