The oldest known depiction of Jesus as Christ Pantokrator (Christ the all-powerful, or ruler of the universe) - St. Catherine’s Monastery, Sinai, Egypt, c. 500s AD.
The asymmetry of Christ’s face, with slightly different features on each side, represents the hypostatic union: the unison of Christ’s two natures - one human and one divine - in one, single hypostasis (substance, being, or individual existence).
