I was looking at these pics and videos and just thinking about everything else going on that doesn’t or just can’t be captured. The hugging and fist bumping of friends, the genuine love and concern for how other people are doing, the deep conversations being held about life, the making of new friends and future plans… the list goes on and on. It’s amazing to be a part of a community like this where musicians, artists, photographers, and creatives of all types come together to express themselves and experience life. Man, Houston was fun. Another knob on my controller went out halfway through my set, but we survived. Improv, baby! I met some cool people, heard some awesome music, ate some delicious pizza, and performed in front of my biggest audience to date. Neon Garden is dope. Left turn: Some of y’all know, but I’m throwing it out to the world at this point… I’ve been going through some major depression and anxiety for about 8 months now. I haven’t made any new music in almost a year and I’ve been having major panic attacks at shows followed by existential dread and downward doomsday spirals. Scary shit. I was in a pretty low place when I was offered this gig, but I took it in hopes that I would be in a better place when the day came. Luckily the stars aligned for me and that was the case. Things have been slowly improving and I’ve come a long way in these past 8 months. Your boy has some pretty sweet tools in his mental health toolbox now. I know I’m not the only one going through rough times, so this isn’t a pity party by any means. I just want the people who put me on to know how much it meant to me and at the same time, let other people know they’re not alone if they’re dealing with depression or anxiety. I know it’s hard, but don’t keep that shit inside. Talk to your friends and family. Arm yourself with knowledge. Get a therapist if at all possible. It’s done wonders for me. Just know that you’re not alone and you can overcome it. If you need someone to talk to, I’m here. While I’m at it, shout out to my wife @chris_homan_ who is my absolute ride or die been by my side through thick and thin bad bitch. I can’t even put into words how much I love you and appreciate your support. Anyway, drama aside… life is a trip, man. And this trip to Houston was healing to say the least.
