JUNE 20th NEW ARRIVALS!!

So a really great buying trip this past week. I returned w/ about 12 boxes of choice records w/ the help of my good friend Enzo. And we returned to an incredible night of Jazz w/ David Murray & Kahil El’Zabar at Manny's! I was able to get a box of records together for this week at the shop to give everyone a teaser of what will be hitting the bins in the near future...like Rebel Music, a mint UK pressing of one of the coolest Reggae comps ever, lots of Prince including this mint original of his first LP, lots a great James Brown recordings like the pictured killer In The Groove comp, some great Blues LP's like Lightnin' Slim - Rooster Blues, a lot of Jazz like a mint 90's pressing of Lee Morgan - Sidewinder and Mal Waldron - The Quest (w/ Eric Dolphy and Booker Ervin), Captain Beefheart's classic - The Spotlight Kid, The Pogues - Red Roses for Me and Toots & the Maytals - Funky Kingston. OK that's it for now. Time to finally be able to see the lightn' bugs in my backyard after all this damn rain.

JUNE 13th NEW ARRIVALS / DAVID MURRAY KAHIL EL'ZABAR

So despite a short week for me I cleaned and graded a box of great records that hit the shop a day early as I'm off tomorrow to see friends and load my car up w/ more great records. So this week's highlights are beautiful original mono copy of Rubber Soul, a killer Studio One instrumental LP from the great Jamaican organist Jackie Mittoo, a nice old Folkways Woody Guthrie record - Bound For Glory, an original live Monk LP, a mint original 60's Blue Cheer in shrink, an original white label promo copy of Miles Davis - Porgy & Bess, a couple of Neil Young Rust albums - Rust Never Sleeps and Live Rust, an original lighter cover copy of The Wailers - Catch a Fire (the LP plays mint & sounds fabulous!) and an original mono copy of the first Doors album (again sounds fantastic).

Also wanted to put in a good word for to make sure everybody knows about the next great event at Manny's. I hope that everyone will come to this incredible Jazz performance that Corey is bringing to Manny’s on Monday June 16th featuring two jazz giants – Saxophonist David Murray & percussionist Kahil El'Zabar. It’s been awhile since we’ve had musicians of their stature here in town. So please come out to support this show and help make it possible for future Jazz events. It all does depend on you, the audience, to help make it happen.

David Murray is a true giant of the saxophone, co-founder of the World Saxophone Quartet, and one of the most recorded jazz musicians of our time—his sound blends deep blues, free jazz, and soul with ferocious originality. Kahil El’Zabar, percussionist, composer, and healer, has been a driving force of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and a global ambassador for rhythm, spirit, and sound.

MAY 24th NEW ARRIVALS!!

More cool records coming my way so here's the current batch for this weekend. I'll also be in the store on Sunday this weekend to help out so I'll try to bring a bunch of newly acquired Cheap Thrills records w/ me on Sunday. As for this week's new arrivals we have three Patti Smith LP's including Radio Ethiopia, Townes Van Zandt - Live at the Old Quarter Houston, Texas, Nilsson - The Point w/ comic book, Herbie Hancock - Sunlight, a nice vintage copy of The Best of Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones - Some Girls (w/ original uncensored cover), a mint original copy of Stevie Ray Vaughan - Couldn't Stand the Weather. And a couple of hard to find Metal albums - Metal Church and Testament - The New Order. I just don't find that many Metal LP's but also besides these two some records by the following artists - Anvil, Raven, Fist, Lucifer's Friend and a few others. I just dropped a couple of boxes of new arrivals at the shop. This week's pictured highlights include an original mono copy of the Billie Holiday classic - Lady in Satin, a great LP of 30's Blues from Memphis Minnie, an original copy of the Joni Mitchell classic - Court & Spark, a mint original copy of Al Green - Belle, another Rush original - Fly By Night, a mint original Grateful Dead - Wake of the Flood (as well as some other Dead selections, a fantastic original copy of Janis Joplin/Big Brother & the Holding Company - Cheap Thrills, a mint later pressing of Jeff Buckley - Grace and a sealed later Blue Note pressing of Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue. and lots more to check out tomorrow.

I also wanted to let everyone know that they should come to Manny's tonight for a performance by an incredible band from Mali - Takaat. They are comprised of the rhythm section from the band of Mdou Moctar. This will be a kick ass night of music! Hope to see you there

Quite a week in out town. And that's besides the power outage storm.Needless to say I didn't get a tremendous amount of records cleaned, graded and priced but still came up w/ some great stuff from my recent buy of records I haven't had in stock for quite awhile. So went on a buying trip on Monday and came back from an old friend's house w/ lots of great records that I haven't had for awhile. This the start of a great run of cool and very clean LP's that will be hitting the bins in the coming weeks. This week's pictured highlights are all originals except the Hendrix LP. We start w/ a Blues Classic from the Paul Butterfield Blues Band - East -West which features guitarist Mike Bloomfield, a mint 3 LP set - Rush - Archives, a great copy of George Harrison's classic 3 LP box set - All Things Must Pass (includes the original poster), a mint Clash - Sandinista, the second pressing copy of Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland, Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life w/ original bonus EP and booklet, Sade - Diamond Life (and a copy of Promise), Bowie - Young Americans and Simon & Garfunkel - Concert In Central Park (w/ booklet). I'll let you dream about what else is there now or will be down the road.

So I dug deep in to the Vaults today came up w/ some great records I haven't put in the store for a while. Pictured highlights include a couple of New Orleans Dr John Funk classics - Desitively Bonaroo & In the Right Place (both feature The Meters who had their own RSD Live release), ZZ Top - Deguello (original promo copy w/ different front cover which is also included), the much in demand LP from Terry Reid - River (mint original promo copy), John Coltrane - Africa Brass Vol 2, Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage, Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced (original copy), an original copy of Ike & Tina Turner - River Deep Mountain High (legendary LP produced by Phil Spector), a mint original German DGG pressing of Karlheinz Stockhausen - Hymnen (classic electronic/musique concrete 2 LP set from 1969) and a mint original copy of The Doors - Morrison Hotel in shrink wrap!! So I dropped 3 boxes of records at the shop tonight including a box of Cheap Thrills LP's of all genres. Today was kind of tough choosing my highlights as I had so many but here go's!! The Rolling Stones - Satanic Majesties Request (rare original mono copy), an original Milton Nascimento LP, Ray Charles - The Genius Sings the Blues (Stax fave Brother Ray LP), Neil Young's first solo record ( second cover copy), an original copy of one of the greatest 60's Garage records The Shadows of Knight - Gloria, John Coltrane - Ole (beautiful second pressing), an original Iron Maiden LP - The Number of the Beast, Linton Kwesi Johnson - LKJ in Dub and another beautiful original Stones LP - Through the Past Darkly. And as I always seem to say around this time - who needs Record Store Day, every Saturday is RSD her at Stax of Trax Records!!!
