PangeaSeed Foundation's Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans from PangeaSeed on Vimeo.
Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans is PangeaSeed Foundation’s groundbreaking ARTivism program that brings the message of ocean conservation into streets around the world.
A perfect synergy of art and activism, ARTivism is designed to educate and raise public awareness of critical environmental issues by means of art.
The goal of the Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans program is to foster emotional connections to and drive positive action for our ocean by creating environmental, educational, public artworks placed to maximize community engagement and awareness-raising. Providing a multidisciplinary platform engaging community members in conversations about ocean issues and stewardship and growing a global community of concerned creatives inspired to utilize their talent to advocate for worldly matters.
To date, Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans has been the most powerful tool for the realization of PangeaSeed Foundation‘s mandate. With the help from our growing community of supporting ARTivists, we continue to bring attention to the global plight of our oceans through ARTivism and are fostering a new breed of conservation through community engagement and empowerment.
To date, we have created 400 ocean themed environmental murals created over 17 countries in collaboration with 250+ supporting artists.

Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans - Boston 2021 from PangeaSeed Foundation on Vimeo.
“One individual cannot possibly make a difference, alone. It is individual efforts, collectively, that makes a noticeable difference - all the difference in the world.” - Dr. Jane Goodall
Catch the full recap video of this year’s completed series of purpose-driven murals created for Sea Walls Boston, the latest edition of PangeaSeed Foundation's international public art program Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans.
Our team of local, regional, and national artists gathered in East Boston for two weeks in July to create a powerful new collection of landmark artworks that now serve as educational tools and conversation-starters, addressing marine environmental issues relevant and of local importance, such as the climate crisis, pollution, and environmental justice.
Through the project, we aim to ignite ownership for the sustainability of natural resources and to build community around the common cause of protecting the region’s ocean and coast for future generations.
With Boston being one of the most vulnerable cities in the US to the impacts of climate change, we are united in incredibly challenging times to paint for a purpose helping to give underrepresented coastal communities in East Boston and beyond a creative voice.
Presented by HarborArts, our collaborative effort joined forces with the New England Aquarium, a global leader in marine research and education, as the Honorary Conservation Partner for Sea Walls Boston 2021. Special thanks go out to Linda Cabot and Ed Anderson for their instrumental role in realizing this project.
The oceans are the life support system of the planet and together, we paint for a purpose to help protect what we love.
Video edit by Sea Walls Boston team member Todd Burgess and additional footage by Zach Heyman.
