Hmmm.
Billy getting into a relationship with Steve and being the exact opposite of what Steve was expecting.
Billy who has been told nasty things about himself his whole existence (and believing them), trying his damndest to be "worth it" to date. Billy who sees himself as having so many flaws that he overcorrects to try to make up for them before anything can even be said to him.
Billy who is the most selfless partner, who thinks ahead and always seems to he ready to meet Steve's needs before Steve is even aware of them. Billy who refuses to be taken care of back because he already feels like he's asking too much just being allowed to date Steve.
Steve who hasn't been on the other end of this behavior but has done it enough himself to immediately clock what's going on. Cue having to have the most stilted conversation about it because neither of them are the best at emotions.
Steve learning what it feels like to not be allowed to help a loved one because of their own insecurities and maybe even learning something.

i just think steve would graduate from pretty boy to lover boy when they make things official and i also think it would make steve horny every time and AND i also think billy would know that and do it on purpose.

lol in an interview they asked Millie Bobby Brown about the theory about Eddie coming back and she hits them with this:
Tumblr media
They’re trying to get Millie to talk Eddie and instead she flipped the script and was like “let me tell you about Billy and Dacre though.”
Millie is a Billy stan. She stans with us.

“You’re still defending Billy after-”
Yes. There’s nothing you can say about Billy either in the TV canon or in Runaway Max that will stop me from defending Billy as a survivor who deserved to heal from his trauma. There’s nothing he did that is any worse than what I’ve seen in real life from real survivors. There’s nothing you can say that will justify the abuse and the torture he endured, nor his death. Your hate is your responsibility. Not mine.

feel like the main reason billy hargrove is such a ‘controversial’ character is because you can’t put him in a neat little box

Easiest way to give away being new to the fandom is being completely unaware how much Joe Keery has loved Billy from the beginning

there really is something so interesting about billy never actually landing a punch during the fight at the byers until he’s cornered

actually, i hate when ppl say "if you relate to this character its a red flag" as if great characters aren't compelling because they're fundamentally human. as if a person who shares something in common with a character that is unlikeable or Not A Good Person is some sort of crime, rather than the mark of a fleshed out character who has not been dehumanised to make audiences feel better. i see this, especially, with succession where ppl will act like relating to these characters is somewhat taboo almost. one of the reasons the series and characters are so compelling is because despite the almost otherworldliness of their wealth they're still just people. the great irony is that they have everything and still make mistakes, and suffer and hurt people and that all of it is made worse, not better, by that wealth. if you see yourself in a flawed character, it should not be treated as some kind of cultural condemnation, but as a reminder, that we look at art so we can See ourselves and people we know.

I want to consider reasons Billy and Steve go well together and why Steve would find revelation in Billy.
I think Billy, for Steve, is freedom. Is youth. Is irresponsibility. Is spontaneity.
He's probably feeling stuck. Aging. He's losing his cool. His touch.
Billy has responsibilities but he blows them off (or he pretends to). He's a year younger, less? more? He's holding onto something Steve is watching slip between his fingers.
He's an excuse and eventually a desire. A plan. A way to keep going. To have stability in the instability of becoming an adult. He's not stuffy. He's not country club.
He's Billy and he's a hurricane but Steve has found himself in the eye of it.
