Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) - dir. Elizabeth Banks

Pitch Perfect 2, or, as I think of it, Pitch Perfect, too. There was about as much difference between the sequel and its predecessor as there is between episodes of Law & Order: SVU. For better at times, but mostly for worse. The actual songs for instance, were rarely as involving as the first film, but the jokes were just as incessant, and all the characters were still there. Cameos and montages were abundant, but Banks (who, along with John Michael Higgins, totally steals the show… again) has herself a great film she can be proud of.

Well, maybe not a great film. But you have to appreciate the acca-awesomeness of a female-centric film, with a female writer, director, producer and multiple stars (including two Oscar-nominated actresses in Anna Kendrick and Hailee Steinfeld) taking the Box Office over the action-packed and critically-acclaimed (myself included) Mad Max: Fury Road. You’re never going to laugh as hard at a joke you’ve already heard before, but if it’s a good joke you’ll still laugh.
