My name is Razz, I'm 26, and this is my blog where I rant about the three comics I'm planning! They're called AU, Stellabolus, and Lab Rats!

writing quiet characters
He looked at him. He looked at him in a different way. Blinked. He tilted his head. He looked at him sideways. Under his lashes. In a unique kind of tilt. In a violent sort of way. He stared at him in a kind of way you haven’t read about before. He sighed. He looked away. He looked at a different away. He stared. Considered. Pondered. He was silent but it was interesting, somehow. It was a questioning sort of silence. Puzzled. He was still. He went even more still. He was barely breathing. He was dead with anticipation. He tensed. He relaxed minutely. The seconds ticked by, silently. He waited. He narrowed his eyes. His eyes widened. He followed you with them. His eyes. He did something that was nothing but filled the required beat of a line. He

characters recognising a doppelganger/evil twin/shapeshifting imposter because they know the original so well is such a good trope

When writing always remember… a character flaw is only a flaw until becomes useful.
Is your protagonist manipulative? Well that’s awful… until they manipulate the antagonist into making a decision that saves the lives of their friends.
Is your protagonist a skeptic? Well that’s not good… until someone tries to lie to them.
Is your protagonist overprotective? That sucks… until someone they love is in danger.
Is your protagonist remorseless? Well that makes them pretty unlikeable… until a hard decision has to be made.

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

working on the plot: 🚫🙈🤢🙅
working on tiny worldbuilding/character details that probably won’t even make it into the story: 👌😍💯👁️

No one asked for this one, but…
If you made lore for a character you’ve had since you were 16, and you’re in your 20s now and have a better grasp of narrative structure and power creep, you can just retcon the dumb stuff. Like you can do that for free. You’re not beholden to the junk you wrote 5 years ago, and you don’t need to justify removing it if it sucks.

Should I just do an art dump one of these days? I’ve done a LOT of character art I haven’t posted I’m realizing.

Some art of a villain character from AU! This is BLOODHOUND! He doesn’t show up until later in the story, but he DOES give the main cast a run for their money. An assassin that showed up seemingly out of nowhere, he likes to cause trouble wherever he goes. He always has weapons on him, and definitely has the skill to use them. Often he tries to seem nonthreatening and all together not that bright, but in reality he’s calculating and always seems to know things he shouldn’t. This guy is definitely a little unhinged and unfortunately definitely good at his job.

“If you’re not interested in the gritty realism of a story in which your favorite characters could die horribly at any time, it’s because you’re a naive comfort-reader who can’t handle hard-hitting fiction.”
No, friend. I just prefer to read stories featuring characters I find interesting, and if they drop out of the narrative, I no longer find the story compelling.

Hey all!
I just wanted to be up front with y’all. Lately, I’ve been having a major art block problem. Life lately has been pretty hectic and such, making it hard for me to even want to try to fix that. However... Everything has started to smooth out! And I’m slowly working myself out of it all now! So hopefully, you all can expect some.. Kiss the chef quality content (okay probably not THAT high quality, but one can HOPE one can DREAM). Thanks for tuning in!

Morally grey: A character who does too much bad to be a good person, but does too much good to be a bad person.
Sympathetic villain: A character who is a bad person, but whose backstory/character arc makes you feel sorry for or sympathetic towards them.
Anti-hero: A character who does bad things to achieve a good goal.
Anti-villain: A character who does bad things to achieve a goal that they believe to be good, but is actually messed up.
Just plain annoying: A character who does bad things to achieve a bad goal but has one throwaway line about a hard childhood that is expected to put them into one of the aforementioned categories when in reality it just makes them annoying

I’m all for fantasy stories where supernatural characters protect their human friends, but does anyone else want some stories where the humans are the ones who are looking after their supernatural friends?
A human girl exchanging her silver engagement ring for a cheaper one after she realises why her werewolf friend has been refusing to high five her.
A group of humans throwing coats over their vampire friend because he forgot it was the Summer solstice and was caught out by the sunrise. Those same friends coming to visit him when he wakes up in the late afternoon, bringing him blood from the butcher’s and putting up with his whining about the nights getting longer.
A human hearing that someone stole their selkie friends pelt and coming over to her new “husband"s house immediately and threatening to punch his lights out unless he tells them where it is.
Humans petitioning the counsel to build a wooden climbing frame in the local playground because the old one has iron parts and their fairy friend’s kids can’t use it without burning themselves.
I’ll post more if I can come up with any.
