expedition 33 ending spoilers:
like. like. VERSO. i understand why you're doing what you're doing, i GET IT, but so much of the problems of the endings -- destroy the world or let maielle corrupt and kill herself -- are YOUR DOING. he didn't pass on alicia's letter (asking for a third option), he lied to maielle at every turn, manipulated her -- let gustave die to isolate her from her loved ones (and see him alone as a loved one, her beloved brother), didn't tell her or anyone about aline, about the world, about renoir, about how stopping aline would kill them all -- verso's problem is that he does not see the world as real, as anyone in it as real, and he wants out/wants to die so badly that he lies and strips agency away and like --
maybe there was a third option! maybe there was an inbetween where maielle could leave (and he's RIGHT, i want to stress this, he is a villain but he's RIGHT) but the painting could survive. but he never even allowed the question to be raised, he did everything he possibly could to lie to and obfuscate and force maielle to destroy the world, and then in the "painting" epilogue he's horrified and depressed and terrified because maielle does the same thing back to him, takes away HIS agency and choices and makes him do what SHE wants.
and i don't mean to sound like i'm bashing verso here. he is right. aline and renoir are trapped in this toxic cycle of denial and destruction, alicia has been punished by aline her life, verso is trapped and half alive and miserable -- the cycle DOES need to end, the family is being destroyed -- i absolutely get why he did this, why he's so desperate to get maielle out and erase the world. (and ignore that lune and sciel and the others all have lives and agency and souls of their own.) it's just so selfish. he is just as bad as his parents. he is just as selfish as maielle. there could have been a third option, there could have been a second or fourth or fifth option, but verso wants to die, and this was the only option he saw as acceptable. the "paint" ending is so dark and bleak but it didn't have to be. the "love" ending is about genocide but it didn't have to be. but they're both what verso made them to be.
(truly, i think clea was the only sane member of the family)

Bio
Born in Los Angeles, California, Jenny moved to Milwaukee when she was three and has been there ever since. A love of art was instilled in her from a young age by her father, which translated into a passion for illustration and design. She is currently majoring in Design and Visual Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is especially interested in web design and using traditional art, as well as non-traditional mediums such as comics and video games, to influence her work.
When Jenny isn’t designing, she’s having deep, philosophical conversations with her dog, Sarah. Sometimes she also draws, reads comics, or makes costumes. She has a passion for problem solving, whether that be finding the most effective design solution or just solving an impossible puzzle in a video game, and this drive translates into her work. She hopes to continue to grow as a designer and offer unique, interesting perspectives.

What can I do well that I would love to do for an extended period of time?
1. Illustration! I absolutely love illustrating things and exploring different mediums, and integrating those illustrations within my design. I’ve been really trying to explore digital illustration more recently, since I’m most comfortable with traditional.
2. Costuming. Sewing and translating costumes from comics or video games into real life is always a challenge. In fact, I would compare it to a lot of design problems—translating something from the original artist’s head into something that will not only work in real life, but will flatter the person wearing it and be comfortable. A lot of things that are easy to draw are just physically impossible in real life, and it’s always fun to try to translate designs that way. Costuming is also an intensely collaborative process, as few people are amazing at sewing, making props, wigmaking, and so on all at once.
3. Getting people invested in art. I think art is a scary prospect for people. So many just assume they don’t “get it”, when I think in large part that’s just because they haven’t found the art that appeals to them, or have never really had the resources or opportunity to explore it, either as a thing to do themselves or just a thing to appreciate.
4. Web design. I absolutely love designing websites, and it’s something I would jump at the chance to continue to educate myself about. It’s another thing that I find challenging and sometimes frustrating but also incredibly rewarding.
5. Working with others! I really enjoy working in a team and connecting with other people, or helping people to connect.

Disciplined Entrepreneurship
What was the focus of your education or career?
I’m majoring in Design and Visual Communication. I view design as a way to tell stories and communicate with people through visuals.
What are you most proficient at?
As a designer, my strengths are color, integrating imagery within my designs cleanly and effectively, and bringing in other, nontraditional elements, such as illustration, into my design.
Who do you know that has expertise in different industries? Do you know any other entrepreneurs?
I don’t know any other entrepreneurs, but I have a lot of friends who are professional costume designers, painters, photographers, musicians, computer programmers, etc.
Do you have access to significant financial capital, or will you be relying on a meager savings account to start out?
I absolutely do not have significant financial capital! I’m broke as a joke.
What are you or your partners well-known for? Skills in engineering? Understanding fiber optics?
I think a lot of my peers know me mostly for my illustration, as I pull it into a lot of my designs.
In previous jobs you’ve held, what inefficiencies or “pain points” existed?
Almost every complaint about a job I’ve ever had has been caused by a breakdown in communication, or a complete lack of it. This includes a lack of teamwork, as well as employers that don’t seem to trust that their employees can do their job well, or can contribute useful ideas to the business.
Does the idea of improving healthcare excite you? How about education? Energy? Transportation?
Healthcare, education and energy excite me the most. At the top of that list is definitely healthcare, because I think our healthcare system in this country is absolutely embarrassing and appalling. Too many people fall through the cracks, and even “successful” insured people can have their lives and savings decimated by a healthcare crisis.
Do you have the time and effort to devote to this endeavor? Are you ready to make a new venture your primary focus?
Yes! I’m so incredibly excited to work through this semester and really dedicate myself to this project.

How your Species has evolved. Review / reconsider / create / affirm the following: What is their average lifespan? 70-100 years How many genders are in your species? One! The species reproduces asexually Which gender "gives birth"? n/a Which gender is the strongest physically? Why? n/a Any other gender specifications? n/a Briefly describe the anatomy of a young member of the species compared to that of an adult. Then, an adult to a very old member? Is there any thing else to add? Because the jellies bud, they are strikingly similar to adult specimens, and different only in size.
New Species Template (FIRST DRAFT IS DUE WEDNESDAY 6 APRIL) NAME Animalia—> Cnidaria —> Cubozoa —> Chirodropida —> Chirodropidae —> Catena —> Argent
*Height: The bell can be anywhere from 3 - 12 inches, while the tentacles can get as long as four feet *Weight: 4-10 pounds *Lifespan: 70-100 years Diet: Carnivorous - insects mostly, but bigger specimens also eat birds and rodents Discovered/Created by: Cassandra Lynch *these stats are average Origin of Name/Discovery: Argentum means silver in Latin, because of the jelly’s striking metallic qualities. History: Argentum first appeared around the turn of the century, and rose rapidly along with the industrial revolution. Their ancestor was another land dwelling jellyfish which could also float, but was especially prone to being eaten by predators because of its general lack of defenses. The argentum split off from its ancestor when it began to develop a metallic “shell”, which allowed it to grow bigger and allowed it to protect itself from most of its predators. Theoretically, the shell is metallic because it allows the jelly to better blend into its city surroundings, and also confuses predators and prey when the light glints off of it. Appearance and Personality: Argentum have an armored bell and long, chain-like tentacles. As a whole, the species tends not to be aggressive, although they aren’t particularly afraid of humans. Most “attacks” occur when humans encroach on their territory or otherwise threaten them, much like bee stings. Habitat: Argentum are city dwellers, and thrive on many of the pests that live in cities, such as insects and rodents. They have few natural predators, as their hard outer shells make them difficult to eat. Their size is also a deterrent, although smaller specimens are often eaten by large birds and sometimes lucky raccoons and coyotes. Language: No language, although they communicate by opening their bells. Different motions of the bell, such as spinning or opening partially, can mean various things, such as a dominance display or a threat. If especially threatened, the argentum can open its bell and “spark”, making arcs of electricity run along the opened petal-like pieces. This is a waste of electricity, however, and is only used as a scare tactic for when the jelly is threatened by a predator it is too big to stun, such as a human. Intelligence and Emotional Capacity: Argentum are not very intelligent, and have very rudimentary nervous systems. They have 24 “eyes” around the base of their bell, which transmit very blurry images that they use to avoid objects. Survival: They are able to float through the air, and rely on prey flying or bumping into their tentacles. Argentum have a few feeding tentacles which use shocks of electricity to stun prey. They then use the same tentacles to draw food up into their mouth in the center of their bell. Argentum don’t generate their own electricity, and rely on absorbing it from the environment. Smaller specimens do fine with static electricity, but larger specimens often open their bells and tangle up to “feed” off of the electricity in power lines or machinery, which makes them quite the pest. Sometimes, Argentum will swarm, often when a good source of food or electricity is found or air currents force them together. The largest specimens are rare, but enough of them can gather to cause traffic to back up or to damage power lines. They cannot move very quickly because of the shape of their bells, and often float slowly, using wind currents to carry them. Reproduction: Argentum reproduce by budding. Their offspring form as polyps on the ends of their tentacles and drop off when they are fully formed. The offspring leave behind scarring, appearing as inconsistencies in the “links” of the tentacles, and are very small, about 1/16”. These tiny argentum are often preyed upon by birds. Budding times depend on the location of the jellyfish, and are often determined by the availability of prey. When insect populations increase, the jellies usually reproduce to ensure a steady food source for their young. Because the tiny jellies grow quickly (from about 1/16th to an inch in a month), these often seem like sudden blooms or swarms and can be overwhelming until the population is naturally brought down to manageable sizes by predators. Health: Most common injuries involve dents in the bell or tentacles being pulled off. The tentacles regrow relatively easily, but if a jelly’s bell can no longer open, it is at a distinct disadvantage when communicating. Argentum also need to open their bells to absorb electricity, and so a jelly that can’t do this will quickly starve. Society: They are rarely social. Their city habitats often force them into close quarters, but left to their own devices, they are often solitary. Argentum that are forced to share territory often have brief dominance struggles, but these are usually only aggressive displays. Real force is rare, but when the jellies do fight, they do so by tangling their tentacles together and shocking one another. Sometimes they can’t get untangled and die.
