reading the rest of this gaider interview out of curiosity and i’m cracking up at gaider describing one thing players wanted as “the ability to go up to your party member, ask how you’re doing, and they say ‘well, i’m anders, and therefore i’m sad’ and have the ability to give them a hug or a kiss”. there’s a tagline to put on the posters. i’m anders and therefore i’m sad

like if anything the individual qunari characters you can interact sympathetically with in da2 are the exceptions that prove the rule. ketojan of course fucking kills himself because the writers DO want you to go wow the qunari treat their mages WORSE than the chantry does that's fucked up 💔 and the conclusion is, ultimately, that there's no way for the qunari to interact with kirkwall/the rest of thedas without it inevitably coming down to violence and invasion. hawke is regarded as a hero and the city's champion precisely because they repelled the threat of the foreign other.
