A Hero’s Brother

Been sitting on this drawing for months

Honestly, I love my stangst so I've been wondering about the sea grunkles story beat where they're like, stranded on an island or something and Ford saves an injured Stan from a river. I need to know more about it!

It’s called “A Hero’s Brother”.

It’s a damn good story. Thing is, it’s fairly long, and ambitious, I’m also not sure how to tell it.

Im not much of a fic writer, I’ve considered a long form comic, but ive already started on one of my longer form comics “Where to Now”, which is a shorter story than this and I’m taking my sweet time working on the pages. Something like this deserves to be fully colored with backgrounds ect. Perhaps in the future, but not anytime soon.

I may make a master post and do small comic moments and drawings about the story in case i decide it’s too much for me.

I was inspired by survivor/disaster stories about people vs the environment like 127 Hours, or The Impossible.

I’ll give yall a synopsis.

While visiting a large island, the boys go on what was supposed to be an overnight excursion to investigate some mythical creature in the forest that locals claimed to be responsible for people disappearing.

Stan and Ford made two mistakes

1) they didn’t tell anyone where they were

The last time they spoke with the kids or any other family was about a week prior, so nobody knows exactly where they are. They also were super confident about what they were doing and a one night camping trip was the probably the least reckless thing they’ve done so far. the locals also don’t know them well enough to notice two random visiting Americans missing.

2) they underestimated the anomaly they were hunting

It’s not a physical being that’s easy to fight. The only reason you know it’s near is because the forest grows colder and quieter. It also has the power to make its victims hallucinate, and get people purposefully further lost in its forest.

During a hike on the second day, the twins have an encounter with this anomaly and run across an old rickety bridge that breaks under them both. Making the two fall down a large trench and into a river with heavy rapids and large rocks. They lose more than half their supplies, including their cellular phones, and some of their food.

And of course…Stan gets injured…badly. A yummy compound fracture on his left leg.

Ford manages to set the bone on Stan’s leg, and wrap it in a makeshift split using sticks and his hoodie.

Now the two are stuck in the middle of a forest with a long way to get to civilization, a very bloodthirsty and torturous anomaly is hunting them, and only a few days left to find a hospital before Stan succumbs to his ever worsening infection.

One of my favorite parts of storyboarding is when I have to delete a couple drawings cause I have new ideas for it.

There’s the second baby, Riley. Who was a premee, that’s a whole story.

As for the others. They have a 3rd, a daughter that I designed and I think I even had a name, but I don’t remember.

After that I get lazy and just leave them in the void

They’re separate AU’s, Rosie was also born in the 80’s.

What's Jacob's fave ice cream?

The multiple colored one that’s just basically vanilla, with a shit ton of dye. With rainbow sprinkles for that texture

For the science baby AU: does Rosie have any special interests? What does she want to be when she grows up?

Rosie is a writer. She learned to read when she was 4 years old, and with that writing.

She loves to indulge in fantasy, mystery and horror novels. She has a whole little fantasy story and writes fanfics. And wants to be as big as Stephen King or George Orwell when she’s older. She’s a very smart kid, I mean look at her dads.

Yet, isn’t at all interested in DD&MD with her dads, but that’s more of a teenage thing. Rosie strays from science, math and other stuff her parents like. She got into a fight with Ford for him signing her up for Chess Club, even though she’s VERY good at chess.

Not a question but I literally just wrote an outline with a fic where I borrow Jacob as a supporting character— love the cuteness of your AU’s so much

What sort of habits has Rosie picked up from her dads?

She journals, enjoys the same movies as Fiddleford, same music as Ford and they all enjoy eachother.

In terms of habits. Mostly she takes from her uncle Stan

Just curious, but if Jacob calls Stan pop-pop, then how does he refer to Ford?

He couldn’t say “Grunkle Ford” as a baby

Does Jacob have any favorite toys? Or is he the kind of kid who’s got all the coolest toys in the world but would rather play make believe in a cardboard box?

Jacob’s an outside/play pretend/exploring kind of kid. He likes playing catch with Stan, and play games over playing with toys. Except Legos, loves himself a good Lego set.

Tho once his little sister comes into the picture, he plays toys with her more often. Riley likes race cars and they like to shoot little toy cars down the stairs.

It HAS resulted with the adults stepping on them and injuring themselves

If Jacob could pick one thing for himself from the Shack gift shop, what would it be?

Not necessarily a gift shop item. But I’ve had this idea that he’s fascinated with one of the exhibits Stan made for the museum, and he convinces Soos to let him sleep with it like a teddy bear.

I haven’t been able to decide which one he would want tho
