There’s a scientific journal called “Get me off Your Fucking Mailing List”.

In 2005, computer scientists David Mazières and Eddie Kohler created this highly profane ten-page paper as a joke, to send in replying to unwanted conference invitations. It literally just contains that seven-word phrase over and over, along with a nice flow chart and scatter-plot graph.

An Australian computer scientist named Peter Vamplew sent it to the International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology in response to spam from the journal. Apparently, he thought the editors might simply open and read it.

Instead, they automatically accepted the paper — with an anonymous reviewer rating it as “excellent” — and requested a fee of $150. While this incident is pretty hilarious, it’s a sign of a bigger problem in science publishing. This journal is one of many online-only, for-profit operations that take advantage of inexperienced researchers under pressure to publish their work in any outlet that seems superficially legitimate.

Can we talk about how the idea that STEM and the humanities are mortal enemies with no overlap is actually incredibly harmful and is not only preventing people from pursuing their passions but also part of the reason why the humanities aren’t given their proper respect? No, artists are not all snobby pretentious assholes who think they’re more cultured than everyone else and no scientists are not all emotionless robots who think they’re smarter than everyone else and it’s possible to be an artist and a scientist at the same time. By acting like you have to choose between STEM and humanities we are eliminating thousands of potential careers and causing unnecessary divisions in a time where nothing is more crucial than unity. I’m so tired of people acting like STEM majors are incapable of understanding art and humanities majors are incapable of understanding math when the two fields are crucial to one another. Who would design our architecture if it weren’t for artful engineers? Who would discover the rules of composition? At the end of the day we are all just people trying to learn and make a living, and all of these careers are important to humanity. People can’t say that STEM is more important than humanities if there’s no such thing as STEM vs humanities.

Unpopular opinion and honestly I'm just ranting but the studyblr tag has become quite disheartening. I have to scroll through 10-15 posts in the "top posts" column to reach original pictures, otherwise it is just aesthetic moodboards of pinterest reposted pictures. Which is fine, I have my opinions but I don't really mind those, plus they're good motivation sometimes.

My issue is that why do posts with original pictures not get as much attention? We should be able to see pinterest moodboards and original posts in equal amounts but alas.

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.

If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.

Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.

Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.

hi everyone! sorry I disappeared. explaining below.

First and foremost; I'm a trans guy, as you all know. With that being said, I'm an American too. If you guys haven't been paying attention, the country is becoming more hostile towards the trans community, completely erasing our existence, not allowing us to serve in our countries own military if we choose to do so, removing the T from the LGBT page about traveling, and other countries warning their citizens about traveling here.

I am currently more focused on school and trying to cope with the environment I am in.

I am in a VERY blue state which means I am safe, but I am unsure of how long that will last, because a very important legal case for gay marriage is currently on the chopping block. (Obgerfell v. ???)

it's ironic that this is happening today. the elevator is out in the building I'm in, so I had to take the stairs to the top floor of the building. to my history of disability class. and I'm disabled.
