WHAT MARVOLO IN THE GAME???!!!
Gaunt Portraits in Haunted Hogsmeade?
I am an Xbox player, so I only recently got to play the Haunted Hogsmeade quest. Before that, I avoided it like the plague because I didn’t want any spoilers. The other day I was watching a clip I recorded and a portrait caught my attention.
I had seen posts in the past that said that Gaunt Manor is mentioned in the game files, and I am 100% convinced, these portraits are ones dropped from Gaunt Manor.
Or perhaps, this entire room?
The portraits are found here. And because Ominis playing piano is practically canon, the piano definitely fits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This portrait, is the one that originally caught my attention.
Tumblr media
Like… tell me those don’t look like two little Gaunts. Specifically, Marvolo (left) and Ominis (right).
Imma break this one down because the more I look at it, the more I’m 100% convinced.
Here are a close up of their faces, and the first thing that struck me were their noses. They look JUST like Ominis’.
But also, THE MOLES!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like!!! Compare the right boy’s moles to Ominis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, here are the other portraits in the hall and what I think they could be.
Tumblr media
I am convinced this is Aunt Noctua
Tumblr media
This could either be Ominis’s mom and potential sister, or, since it is across from the above portrait, it could be a younger picture of Noctua with Ominis’s grandmother.
Tumblr media
Now this portrait isn’t in this hall, but it screamed Gaunt to me. I used it to be Ominis’s dad in my video, but the attire is probably too old? Honestly, none of the attire could be time accurate to my theory because I am not familiar with the mid to late 1800s.
Okay, I reached the 10 picture limit, but let me know what you think!

Thanks @noxxytocin for tagging me, this is fun!
Some last lines from my fics.
TW: brother incest
From Nantaimori (ship: Gauntcest)
They fall into a blissful slumber together, cheek to chest and fingers intertwined. They’re bound by blood, by love, by any magic there ever was and will be.
They say the house of Gaunt is a cursed and loveless hell—that’s only half right. It is cursed.
From Caribbean Vacation (ship: Gauntcest)
Among all the emotions that Marvolo is feeling right now, the strongest one is, again, pride—he is proud that Ominis is so comfortable around him and so confident in playing him. Gone is the petulant child and now the gorgeous young man in his arms knows exactly how to get what he wants.
“The truth is, the board will never let both the CEO and the chief scientist be on leave…” Marvolo kisses his forehead, happily admitting his defeat, for the affectionate and victorious smile on his Ominis’ face is the real trophy.
✨ Last Line Tag ✨
Thank you @the-golden-comet for the tag. 🫴✨

With Marvolo's presence, the void was filled, and Ominis felt whole once again. He shut his eyes and surrendered himself to slumber, comforted by the realization that solitude was not his fate tonight. The nightmare—but mist.
"I've had a chat with father—oh, and would you believe it? Some serendipitous soul misplaced his morning tea for a calming draught! Who could be behind such an innocent mix-up?" Ominis smiled. The spark flickered.
Ominis smiled faintly, tears brimming his weary eyes. He nodded. Marvolo's hand cupped his cheek, hovering his wand over his temple. "Somnum."
The manor paled in comparison. His true haven lay not within walls or beneath gilded ceilings but in the tender cradle of his beloved's arms. Here, in the sanctuary of Ominis’s heart, Marvolo was truly home. "I'll draw you a hot bath."
Ominis's heart pounded, unsure of what to even begin with. The Legilimency. Marvolo's absence. The killings. Their past. What word would he even put first? He had so many things to say. So many different things. "I did not mean to." And so began the tightening of their thread.
"Ollie..." The nickname slipped from Ominis's lips with a softness that belied the storm within him. Marvolo's chest tightened at the sound, and he gazed forward at his love—a vision painted in hues of red, a beauty so fragile yet fiercely alive. Marvolo wanted to fill him with fire, to reclaim the night they had lost and all the years that had slipped through their fingers like sand. He needed to fill him. "Let's rewrite that night properly, shall we?"

Thank you so much for posting this. There has been no other film that has gotten me so emotionally involved like Maurice, the only firm that got me to read its original novel. And I feel like a child unwrapping a rare candy reading your post, especially about that last line.
All Different Endings of Maurice and Alec from E.M. Forster's Maurice
Having been to the King's College archive myself, as well as read the Abinger edition of Maurice (which examines the differences between various versions of the manuscripts stored at the archive), I can conclude that there are 3 main different versions of the novel: from 1914, 1932, and 1952-1959, each differing from one another in Forster's treatment of the relationship between Maurice and Alec after the British Museum.
1914 version:
Order: British Museum - Southhampton - Penge with Clive - Epilogue
NO HOTEL SCENE, NO BOATHOUSE
In this version, Maurice and Alec do not spend the night together after the British Museum; Alec asks Maurice to but Maurice refuses with a long speech about how they shouldn't be together because of their class differences. So they part ways instead.
Maurice, however, does go to the Southhampton to see Alec off. After not seeing Alec there, Maurice leaves with Reverend Borenius at end of the chapter directly to Penge to say goodbye to Clive.
The reunion between them is implied first during Maurice's farewell to Clive—"I've wired to him (that I understand why he missed the boat)"—and then specifically illustrated in the written epilogue.
1932 version:
Order: British Museum - Southhampton - Penge with Clive
NO HOTEL SCENE, NO BOATHOUSE, NO EPILOGUE
The British Museum chapter is pretty much the same as the published version.
Maurice and Alec stay the night but there is NO hotel chapter written out. Their night together is only described in 4 lines at the beginning of the Southampton chapter as an "unwise escapade".
The scene thus goes from Maurice saying "To hell with with it" directly to him at the Southampton.
The end of the Southampton chapter as well as the farewell chapter with Clive conform to the 1914 version: i.e. no boathouse reunion.
Epilogue by 1932 had already been disregarded by Forster, so the only clue we have to the reunion between Maurice and Alec is Maurice's line "I've wired to him (that I understand)".
Therefore the 1932 version is the least hopeful in regards to the happy ending between Maurice and Alec.
1950's version:
Order: British Museum - Hotel - Southhampton - Boathouse - Penge with Clive
This is basically the final and published version that we all have read.
The hotel chapter was drafted out in 1952 and added to the 1932 manuscript.
But it wasn't until 1958 that Forster was able to finally and fully pen out how Maurice and Alec reunite at the boathouse.
It must be noted that Forster had troubles finding a way to bring Maurice and Alec together, and in fact refused to reunite them for decades. The boathouse reunion, Alec sending a wire to Maurice, and Maurice not receiving that wire but instinctively knowing where Alec is nonetheless—all were only conceived by Forster in 1958.
Therefore—and this is really the most touching and important part—according to scholars and editors of the Abinger edition...
"now we shan't be parted no more, and that's finished" were by logic the very last words Forster had written for the novel. Alec's promise marks the end of Maurice's search for a friend, as well as the end of Forster's writing progess for Maurice. It is both a fictional and a real-life farewell.
