Okay, you know how the new album of Epic: The Musical came out? In “The Underworld”, is it bad that I’m more upset by Polites than Odysseus’s mother?

I would die for that dude.

I keep picturing Achilles and Patroclus holding back a sobbing Polites from Odysseus as he says “THEN I’LL BECOME THE MONSTER” in the Underworld.

Achilles, who always hated Odysseus for his holier-than-thou attitude as his men died and Odysseus’s lived; Patroclus, who couldn’t bare the pain of his people and took measures to make sure he would end the war or die to make sure Achilles would end it; and Polites, their old friend, now having joined them (who also sacrificed himself for the man he loved) and is now watching the man he died for descend into the madness he would give anything to save him from

I'm still not over Odysseus' little "Polites..." when Polites showed up, eSPECIALLY BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT HE TENDS TO HIT THE HIGHER NOTES WHEN HE'S EMOTIONAL. HIM SEEING HIS BEST FRIEND AGAIN MADE HIM WANT TO CRY (me too bro)

ALSO the fact that Jorge's IRL mom voiced Anticlea gave that part so much more depth and emotion to it, I love how much of a genius Jorge is

I think my favourite thing about this saga is knowing that Odysseus' mother in The Underworld is performed by Jorge's Actual Mother. Like her voice is beautiful, and her accent really makes the melody so much sweeter

Athena's piano leitmotif

Athena singing the lyrics 'Warrior of the mind' in one continuous tone at the begining, Odysseus joining in with a staggered tone, then both sing in that staggered tone

Athena returning to that continuous tone when singing 'This is my goodbye'

'We're gonna shoot for the sky' 'What???'

Poseidon. thats it, just his existence

Athena's leitmotif playing when Poseidon sings 'So close your heart, The world is dark and ruthlessness is mercy'

'I see your palace covered in red, Faces of men who had long believed you're dead, I see you're wife with a man who is haunting, A man with a trail of bodies' <- actual chills I cant even describe how this part makes me feel

The thing about Monster that I'm currently obsessed with: the way Odysseus humanizes his enemies as he dehumanizes himself. He correctly describes the motivations of the Cyclops, Circe, and even Poseidon which takes a level of understanding that people struggle with under the best circumstances. But then in the same verse he describes himself from the view of the Trojans. ("Does a soldier use a wooden horse to kill sleeping soldiers because he is vile?")

and of course the whole song is "Monster". If Odysseus can't stop seeing his enemies as people (seeing his own son in the Trojan infant), if that is what is killing his men and if there is no future where he makes it home as the person he is, then of course he has no choice but to stop being a person.

sometimes i feel like people forget autism is a disability. and that’s not a bad thing! i’m all for disability acceptance, im proud of my disabilities. but i feel like we forget autism can hurt.

it hurts that i have to put more time and energy into socializing than others.

it hurts when i need to move so bad, usually cause im overwhelmed by either my surroundings or emotions, that i thrash and hurt myself.

it hurts that i cant be in places that are too loud or too bright, which on bad days can be as simple as a small, quiet noise or dim lights.

it hurts that i struggle to tell when im hungry, thirsty, tired, etc. so i can’t properly take care of myself. it doesn’t help my insomnia and i get very nauseas and get UTIs.

i 100% believe in autism acceptance. i don’t want a cure. but i also want us the acknowledge that it can hurt. it doesn’t mean my entire life will hurt, but some parts will. and i want a community where we can see both sides, see the hurt, and celebrate it anyway.
